Phil's Birthday Run Staring Us Down.

Forums:

I think we got it all wrong folks. It ain't gonna be just one band. Its gonna be a fiesta. A who's who in the Phil Zone universe of friends and  incarnations of days gone past. We are  getting  an almost Q of sorts. Perhaps a  Larry and Jackie night with Teresa. Perhaps the Broomy 6 featuring Scofield and Warren.  We may get a Chris Robinson or a   JK and SJ  set. Special guests  popping in like Bob Dylan, Trey, Anders Osborne, John Mayer, Melvin, Stanley Jordan or a Dickey Betts to name but a few.  The world is our Oyster and there be no time like now.  You folks with tickets in hand could be in for a serious joy ride. Couch run will be fun and its the next best thing to being there.

Cause it's a place you've never been
Maybe a place you've never seen now
You can hear them callin' on the wind
Driftin' and dreamin', driftin' and dreamin'.

Where? When? How?

Hi, Ken.

Hi Floops. Birthday run at the Cap of course.

Thanks, man. But, do you know the dates and times of the shows?

here you go floops

bday run at the cap:

Wed 3.15
Thu 3.16
Fri 3.17
 @Show 8:00 PM

yes KK i also think it is a possibility:

ales (relio)  on Saturday, February 11, 2017 – 11:07 :  ok i am now saying that imo this run is going to be an a- list tribute to phil.  it is a surprise.

oh boy!

So do i, especially after he announced last night that he s playin the brooklyn bowl earlier in week w family band....i think "family band" is core...plus special guests each night...or an all star line up on top of family band...

The Cap said the lineup is NOT the Family Band.

Thank you!!

I'll do my best to be there for couch tour.

So do i, especially after he announced last night that he s playin the brooklyn bowl earlier in week w family band....i think "family band" is core...plus special guests each night...or an all star line up on top of family band...>>>>>>>

Yo Jam. You will loving the shows.  IMHO Family band will be in the audience, most likely,  behind you bugging out on the players on stage. Wish I could be there and at the Philton but couch run will be great.

hopefully phil melts faces this run.

family band in town week of run doesn't bode well, imo, for the X factor liftoff-rather, just more confusion/noise and missed cues w/ entirely too many guitarists on stage. i hope i am wrong, but the recipe brewing reeks of the current phil model of play, not some wicked incarnation of a well rehearsed phil band from years past.

phil is gearing up for retirement imo.  he is apparently passing the torch to tfb.  unfortunately i have an issue with the the lack of life experience of tfb. they are not for me in the long run.  i'll do this run but no more w/ tfb.

Thanks kk...ill be there for one at least...and one jrad the week before, i think, may switch that now, and do a brooklyn phil also...

Larry & Teresa are out they are touring

http://larrycampbellmusic.net/

Joan Osbourne has open dates and I'm good with that as I loved her as a friend

POSSIBILITIES

jimmy herring has open dates

Stanley Jordan has open dates but is in India on 2/19

Rob Barraco has open dates

Chris robinson has open dates as do his band mates

john kadlecik is open

OUT

John Scofiled is booked elsewhere

Jackie Green is open

Bob Weir is open

Karl Dension is also open

jeff chimenti is open

could it be a Furthur reunion ?

My guess may be the Brother hood with Joan and Phil

JK is playing according to the article posted. No JRAD show on 3/15 so could be possibly Russo or others that night.

Trey is open.

He has dates 3/8, 3/10. 3/11 in the northeast, then nothing until his own Cap dates 4/14-15.

There can't be a full Furthur reunion because Russo is at the BB 3/16-17-18.

There can't be a full Q reunion because Molo is in Alaska with DNB.

Karl Denison's TU band with a Phil sit-in was a funk fest a couple weeks ago.  Top Notch.

Have fun freaks, we'll be listening in.

Some major wishful thinking in this thread. Hope you all are right. Drumming options are looking especially weak unfortunately. Maybe Jeff Sipe is around?

And on KK prediction in the other thread on this

Bob Dylan is open :)

You people are on drugs

>>You people are on drugs

NOT YET!!!! 4 more hrs till I'm out of the office

"i have an issue with the the lack of life experience of tfb"

They have plenty of experience.  It's x-factor that they lack.

Hopefully phil melts faces this run.

Dan........I could be very wrong......but Jill and Peter might be arranging this in a clandestine manner.  Phil might be a consultant but could be "In the Dark". You possibly doing the shows?

I would be shocked if its the Family band. It will not be. Dollars to doughnuts you will be well rewarded.

Ummm, ck those Larry and Teresa dates again ;)

They are open on 15,16,17...and in NY, NY (City Winery) on 18th....sooo how is that not do~able ?

They will never miss an opp to guest with Phil as it is magic when they are on stage together ( IMO ).... ;)

TENNESSEE JED - Phil Lesh & Friends w/ Larry Campbell & Theresa Williams - Capitol Theatre 11/18/12

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBYXLbVhkRs

It will not be Bob

Joan Osborne has open dates and I'm good with that as I loved her as a friend>>>>

I am hoping for it. She brings a delicate touch of class to any P$F lineup.

Hi Zooey.

Trey is open.>>>>>

Been waiting a long time for it.

There can't be a full Furthur reunion because Russo is at the BB 3/16-17-18.

Whats he doing on 3/15?

There can't be a full Q reunion because Molo is in Alaska with DNB.>>>

Its an almost Q run with Sipe on drumZ or maybe Molo plays hooky for 1 night?

Bob Weir is open>>>>

A great friend as well as a phriend.

<<<<>>>>>Dan........I could be very wrong......but Jill and Peter might be arranging this in a clandestine manner.  Phil might be a consultant but could be "In the Dark". You possibly doing the shows?

no man, sitting this one out.

sipe on drums would elevate the music, for sure, over tony bologna and the dishwasher.

>>>Karl Denison's TU band with a Phil sit-in was a funk fest a couple weeks ago.  Top Notch.

BOOM!

You are correct Lynn, I saw the 15 & 17th and thought that as March so Larry and Teresa are still a maybe

Happy Valentines Day, Joanie,

(Just in case my love is reading...lol)

Joanie and trey, w a russo drop in for one night....

It will be fun.....that, is never in doubt.

To throw us another curveball, Phil and the Family Band just announced 2 more shows at the Brooklyn Bowl. The shows are on 3/12 and 13, leaving the 14th off before Phil's 3-show B-Day Run. I wonder how this will affect the lineup announcement for the Cap, taking in to consideration the need to sell tickets to these 2, newly-added Family Band shows?

At least Ross James is a given.....LOL!

now they probably wont annouce the cap lineup until the 14th

RElix is gonna announce the CAp Bday lineup on their Relix daily 7 email 2marrow LMFAO, so its gonna be a killer lineup if there r doing all this, i would hope....

http://www.jambands.com/news/2017/02/14/relix-daily-7-to-feature-announc...

good scoopin Neil.. anyone know what time that email goes out?

It doesn't technically say it will be the lineup:

"Tomorrow, the Relix Daily 7 email will include an exclusive announcement about Phil Lesh’s 77th birthday celebration at The Capitol Theatre, which will take place March 15–17."

If it was lineup, wouldn't they say lineup?

Also is it worth signing up for those emails?

^ so funny i went to sign up for th email(Of course) and it says im already signed up for it  its just relix email  with a different name, so weird.

your totally rite uncle sam, it could be an announcement of the reserection of bill grahm mother and she will be feeding everyone before each show, or a pre and post show line up which is probably what it is...damn

No I got you, it's of course the lineup, but just weird to tease it so cryptically, enveloping us in suspense

That Shappy does have some crafty marketing tactics. I signed up.

If it is in fact the family band I will have a 17th single for sale if anyone is interested

Midnight North is playing in LA on 3/17 so that show isn't the Family Band. I expect that Phil's birthday will be the TFB plus guests.

hmmm. David Nelson Band members are technically available on the 15th, but they'd have to hop a plane the next morn to begin their Alaska run on the 16th! And the band w/ David is booked for the Warfield in late Feb... so hopefully David is back in action. What better friend could play for Phil's Bday, besides Bobby, Mickey and Billy? ;)

SO, there is no need for me to sign up because as soon as ( or sometimes even magically before ) an announcement is made ...it will appear here like it always does ;)

THIS is one reason I adore the zone ....smiley

Thanks in advance !

i thought tfb was much younger than they actually are,  james is like 40.  & grahame is well into his 30's.  i heard that today from a real head who was at bb last night and really enjoyed tfb  show.  i stand corrected.

Ross James is 29, Graham is 30.

haha

I'm a real head.

Eric Clapton & Paul McCartney have no scheduled appearances on 3/15.

Sure Paul usually plays bass, but out of respect 2 Phil, he will switch over 2 rhythm guitar.

Luciano Pavarotti is also free that day, but he wants 2 sing lyrics in Italian.

Heads in the know R saying Luciano & Jill R discussing a compromise.

This is the main reason for the delay in announcing the friends.

Stay tuned for details.

So what time do these hippies get up?

No email, nothing on the web site.

LOL!

^^^^

im guessing noonish

Prolly a good guess.

I'm listening to 3/15/16 to get into the mood. ;-)

Guessing Relix is west coast based, might be this afternoon. I'd agree with noonish.

Finally.

My Relix email came at 8:35 am PST yesterday, so by noon EST is a good guess.

For a comparison as far as age goes, when Live Dead was released Jerry Garcia was 26 years old.

Noon announcement sounds swell.

Is it gonna B a friends announcement or something else.

Time will tell.

^...when Live Dead was released Jerry Garcia was 26 years old.

really?  wow. so age is irrelevant.  either you have it or you don't.  thanks Thom2

17th will be the show.

Seems like an over abundance of announcement hoopla for that line up

Much ado about nothing.  Gonna get my face melted at JRAD.

"Joining Lesh for the shows, which will run March 15–17, will be vocalist Joan Osborne, guitarists Stanley Jordan and John Kadlecik, keyboardist/multi-instrumentalist Jason Crosby and drummer Mark Levy."

Not overwhelmingly compelling but I do look forward to listening to these shows.

Wo, oh, what I want to know...will Phil put on a TXR Spring Fling again this year in May?

Sort of anticlimactic sad

Whoever had that weeks ago nailed it. Levy better bone up -- that's a big stage.

If SJ learns the tunes and the band rehearses a time or two, could be pretty good.

Just saved myself $100. Hope the folks going do have a good time though.

Rehearsal, we don't need no stinking rehearsal.

Terrible line up. You would think at this point in the game he would bring some real, old school friends up on that stage

Not feeling so bad about not being able to make this run now, but still hope everyone that goes has a blast.

>>>>Whoever had that weeks ago nailed it.

Yes they did.

>>>You would think at this point in the game he would bring some real, old school friends up on that stage

Maybe he doesn't have the clout that you think he has.

New open-box washer, here I come !!

I miss Joan so I'm gonna risk it :), never found Nikki Blume so I'm gonna try and find Joan for my wedding proposal  {{{JOAN MOAN}}}

melt my man han heart

Decent line-up but I was hoping for better.

That announcement hasn't sold any tix, I queried the balcony and same tix are there, LOL!

Hopefully there will be a couple more add on guests.

Like Lyn said before, Larry and Theresa are always good guests and they live in NYC.

One mans trash is another mans treasure. Being a huge Joan fan i'm happy with the lineup.

JK is a better player when he is paired with a more aggressive guitarist. I thought JK played well at the Cap with Scofield and really rose to the occasion. Is Jordan aggressive enough to push JK? If not, it should be a guaranteed snooze-fest.

Ross James will be on that stage.......you heard it here 1st.

F*@k you Keith.  wink

i never even got the email, still..

Joining Lesh for the shows, which will run March 15–17, will be vocalist Joan Osborne, guitarists Stanley Jordan and John Kadlecik, keyboardist/multi-instrumentalist Jason Crosby and drummer Mark Levy

Its a marketing ploy.....They left out Dylan and Trey. all good things in all good time.

Reach for the sun, catch hold of the moon
They're both too heavy but what can you do?
Reach for the stars, smack into the sky
You don't want to live but you're chicken to die
Oh, you're chicken to die

I thought JK played well at the Cap with Scofield....

That small run that also played Penn's Peak and the Gathering with Modeski?   Grate shows..

^that was a pretty cool micro-tour. some really nice jams along those 5 nights or so.

that band actually had the feel of a cohesive, well rehearsed and ready to jam and bring the music to new places PLF lineup. that's been lacking for a while now.

Ross James will be on that stage.......you heard it here 1st

And I don't think Grahame will miss his father's birthday on the 15th (even if he has to be in LA on the 17th)  devil

Gonna b a fun couple nights at the Cap...

I'm really happy with this lineup.

smiley

To each his or her own.

>> Ross James will be on that stage.......you heard it here 1st.

Keith, I'm hearing that Ross will b joining JRAD one night as a thanks for Scott's recent Brooklyn Bowl appearence.

Seriously though, enjoy JRAD

All good.

smiley

Dave, I suffered thru a whole set of JRAD with Mayer, so one or two songs with RJ will be a cakewalk.  Truth be told, I HATE guests with bands; JRAD doesn't need to be diluted by anyone sitting in.  But having RJ try to add anything to JRAD might be worth the comic relief it will provide.

Thinking back i do believe it was Keith who first mentioned Stanley Jordan and JK, appreciate the word even though it was not well received here.

I happen to like JK(ducking), can't speak either way on Stanley Jordan, Joan is a big plus, i'd hit all three if i lived closer.

See whoever decides to make it on friday, Cheers !

Let Joan sing Brokedown Palace!!!

Very happy here with this line up, SJ is def my cup of tea..... party !

Only Phil can fill my <3

The_Tea_Party.jpg

K is a better player when he is paired with a more aggressive guitarist. I thought JK played well at the Cap with Scofield and really rose to the occasion. Is Jordan aggressive enough to push JK? If not, it should be a guaranteed snooze-fest.>>>

JK and Sco were good shows. And the Halloween run of JK and SJ at the Cap  was good stuff. Unfortunately JK and SJ have a "bore me to death" stage presence.  I do not mean to be cruel but  there is no difference between listening to the show on archive or being there in person. JK plays Lead  pantomime and SJ is a Department store mannequin.

Still waiting for announcements on Dylan, Trey, Herring and Warren.

I bought tickets for this run the day they went onsale, and I am disappointed with this lineup. Hoping to be proved wrong, but based on what I've seen from the pairing of JK and SJ, I think the possibilities for really out-there jamming are minimal. JK is too uptight, and SJ is too tentative, for my taste.

I'll be here to purchase tix from anyone who wants not to go now...

[email protected]

Face n fees, yo!

plf is pretty much done. you can stick a fork in that shit.

phil had an EPIC run.

Hoping for a better line-up next time, but once again - I hope everyone who goes enjoys themselves in grand style!

^^^^^

respectively and kindly disagree... just cause some peeps don't like the lineup phil is done...hilarious...coney island raged(the zone shredded that band before the shows) but but stick a fork in PLF...sorry let's wait for the shows before the obligatory phil is done statements....but but the family band...

dude it's been done for years. get with it.

^^^^

I disagree sir...plenty of killer shows in the last couple years...but keep with it..

right on. 2015/3/18 was a good show.

>>>right on. 2015/3/18 was a good show.

The next night even better.  The Q run, the best of the Cap IMO. Classic Phil in 2016.

i thought the Q shows were severely underwhelming. you just can't recreate that magic, and each time he's tried it's been obvious. definitely some good jams over those two nights though-the other one being the real gem outta the two nights.

if they rehearsed and toured, different story.

but set two from 3/18/15 is the best phil i've seen probably since those summer 2013 shows...and then before that, who the fuck even knows. long time.

3/19/15 didn't flow nearly as well as the 3/18 meltdown of a second set.

Someone on PZ said it best after those Q shows. The other Q get-togethers felt like reunions but THAT felt like the Q. Couldn't agree more.

yeah, nostalgia is a helluva drug.

Its not 2001 anymore Pyramid. Certainly you are entitled to your personal opinion and expectations.

Phil will be 77 and at this point i'm happy he's still trying and bringing a few shows back east for us.

>>>yeah, nostalgia is a helluva drug.

So is good music.

Zoner's own opinions are a hell of a drug too.

Just my .02 about three guitars. Jam rock is a first cousin to jazz among other genre.

Kind of Blue had Miles on trumpet and both Adderly and Coltrane on sax. Either of them would be "enough" but Miles still wanted both.

The Q seems to be the best at the swirling group improv but when that occurs the resulting psychedelic dixieland is nice to my ears.

That's how the multiple instruments work in the Phil Way.

Subjective...

They still havent paved paradise w a parking lot.....yet....

I need two tix for Fri. 3-17, if anybody has extras.

So how about the tree museum.
Is the price of admission still going 2 B a dollar and a half?

Hammer, you won't have any problem finding tickets and there will be a ticket drop at some point.

So we know the band and we are certainly gonna have special guests.  Ryan Adams touring but his last show  of current leg  is on March 14. Interesting.

good stuff in the second set. >>>>

Dan thanks for posting this.

>>>>Hammer, you won't have any problem finding tickets and there will be a ticket drop at some point.<<<<

That's good to hear. I been checking the Cap website daily, keeping an eye out for a ticket drop.

Posted this in the ticket folder...but figured it couldn't hurt to post here as well.

I have 2 floor tickets for 03/17, but due to recent knee surgery...I really don't see myself standing for 5 hours straight.

So, I'm looking to trade the 2 floor tickets for 1 decent Lodge seat.

If interested, please email me @ [email protected]

Please no Joan

Really can't stand her with dead music

Or her own for that matter

Also I know I'm in the minority on this, but please no CRB crossovers

Ok, that's all, fun will still be had regardlessyes

People can put together whatever friends lineup they choose.

Like so what if that ship has already sailed.

Still looking for that ticket drop for Fri tix.

Should I just keep an eye on the Cap website?

^^^^Thanks, and I'll let the Zone know if I spot tix on sale!

Meanwhile, we could listen to the first night from Coney Island with Denson.

To pass the time while we wait for a ticket drop to the Fri show.

No ticket drop today. I found in the past the best times to check is around 10:30 AM and then around 12 Noon or so.

I'm looking for a Friday like everybody else.

I've been listening to 3/15/16, a very good Phil birthday show. Hoping this year's birthday run will be as good or better, we shall see!

The anticipation is building for another Cap run!

Been checking them links Manky posted everyday.

I'm guessing that calling the Cap to ask about the ticket drop won't produce much useful info.

It's supposed to be a surprise, right?

Let the good times Zone

>>>>http://www.ticketfly.com/event/1383284-phil-lesh-friends-port-chester/

http://www.ticketfly.com/search/?q=phil+lesh

try this, if you see the drop please let us know here<<<<

I clicked on both of those links a few minutes ago, and both links (plus the Cap website) now ostensibly show the option to purchase tickets for the 3-17 show; however, when I click "tickets", nothing happens.

The previous dozen or so times that I clicked these links and checked the Cap website, both sources always stated "sold out."

I called the Cap. The guy I spoke with put me on hold and assured me that on his end, tix for 3-17 show sold out. He couldn't explain what I'm seeing on my end.

Maybe someone else could try the Cap website.

I clicked "tickets" for several different events, and nothing happens.

To KK: hell fucking Yeah!

It's not just you! I see the same thing.

Apparently there was a mini drop this morning, i checked it around 10:45 or so and the buy ticket link was up for friday, i checked for thursday and it was basically the same thing they had yesterday. Also no fridays when i checked or i would have posted it.

Someone here said 10:30 and 12 are likely drop times, so that appears to hold true for this one.

I'd expect one more drop.

Weird.

When I click on tix for ANY event on the Cap site or the Ticketfly site, nothing happens.

Do you need an app or something to buy tix from these sites?

3/15 GA tix are indeed now available.  The calendar for 3/17 does not show sold out but when clicking it does. Bit of a mind fuck "at the moment".

To KK: hell fucking Yeah!>>>

yes

I just checked, GA is available for the 15th and 16th . The last show is sold out.

The links work for me on the ticketfly link i sent you. The friday link is on because of the earlier ticket drop, sold out now.

For ticketfly you need an account to buy tickets, you should be able to view them either way.

Weird.

When I click on tix for ANY event on the Cap site or the Ticketfly site, nothing happens.

Do you need an app or something to buy tix from these sites?>>>>

Using my Mac book. No app required. Same as it ever was.

Try right clicking the link and open a new window. You might be running an older version of windows and may need to update your browser, good luck and don't give up hope.

Good grief!

I was using Mozilla, and I tried Explorer.

Everything works fine now.

3/15 GA tix are indeed now available.  The calendar for 3/17 does not show sold out but when clicking it does. Bit of a mind fuck "at the moment".>>>>>>

Its a roll a coaster.  3/15 is again "sold out".....for now.

I got excited just now when I went to the Cap website and discovered tix on sale for Fri 3-17.

But it's just VIP tix.

I thought I'd say something in case anybody here wants a VIP ticket.

Good luck!

Would be nice to know what poster you get, is it for that show?

Keep the faith Hammer, you're getting closer.

Tix for patron with disability: wheelchair are now on sale as well for the Fri 3-17 show.

I just snagged one GA ticket for Fri 3-17.

It wouldn't let me buy two, and my girlfriend tried to get one, but it said "none available."

Maybe some more will pop up!

Keep trying for one.Half way there.

I just tried for 3/17. No Ga only wheelchair. Drats.

l have been checking for 3/17 - 2x a day, every day for weeks now.  imo i have earned a tic.

^^^^I agree.

Me too. Every single day.

After this run, I may have a nagging feeling for a day or two that I'm forgetting to do something.

Are you going to the shows, KK?

lmk if you pit stop in SF!

Does anyone know if Stubhub tix for Phil Cap shows usually tend to drop in price a day or two prior to the event?

Plenty of ticks outside, less than cost.

^^^^ Even for sold-out shows?

ADA Tickets for 3/17 available now.

Storm shifted northwest more than expected, Port Chester should be fine.  Airports in NYC might have trouble dealing with the ice and I assume there will be a few delays today. Hope everyone flying in makes it on time.
