Mason's Children
Here comes Sunshine

HC Sunshine.

Same lineup as Montana: Molo, Holly, Stu, Grahame.

Stu Allen, Grahame Lesh, Holly Bowling and John Molo

Phil will always keep Molo on the steady, because for Phil there are other great drummers on his roster, but none of them are Molo. It’s really that simple. Molo is Phil’s favorite.

iPad into good 'phones here.  Mix is nice and fat!

Thanks for the link, Noodler.

Like John says, The Good Stuff.

>uh montana>telluride looks great in hindsight.<

Maybe not the preferred path for many folks here but sorta puzzling that more than a few of us rusty ole tour heads didn't see the Trifecta possibilities of "Phil @ MT>DeadCo @ Boulder>Phil @ Telluride" over this long weekend. Maybe some did and, if so, Kudos!

The silence is deafening.

Can anyone compare the caliber of playing in Eugene to tonight? (Since I didn't go to Eugene)

Thanks slickrock for the link on the other thread, felt this deserved it's own, just in case

It's almost like they practiced that set every day since the MT show...   damn professionals!

Telluride > Eugene on technical scale

Eugene > Telluride on trippy vortex scale

...although I still haven't found a Eugene recording to verify my music memory.

Thanks, LLOLLO.

That sure was nice.

Here's the Wheel > Rider. (the poster will have more up soon)

Good on ya Noodler, for starting the new thread. Got a bit more attention that way. Good stuff.

Maybe not the preferred path for many folks here but sorta puzzling that more than a few of us rusty ole tour heads didn't see the Trifecta possibilities of "Phil @ MT>DeadCo @ Boulder>Phil @ Telluride" over this long weekend. Maybe some did and, if so, Kudos!<<<

Didn't make Phil @ MT, but did get to D&C Fri/Sat and back to Telluride for Phil ... also attended Thursday of Bluegrass, so kind of spent at the moment & rethinking summer plans ... might pull back on a show here or there.

Telluride > Eugene on technical scale

Eugene > Telluride on trippy vortex scale

...although I still haven't found a Eugene recording to verify my music memory.<<<<

I didn't hear the EUgene show, so couldn't offer up the same comparison first hand, but would concur about Telluride not being too heavy on the trippy side ... or at least that what might be construed as such in a more "typical" way.  I think they did extend into the "Newgrass" end of this spectrum near the outset with Bela & then with him and Sam, but a different "flavor" of trippy that's more grounded in an acoustic landscape.

Regardless, it was a treat to see Phil on the Town Park stage!

This was a festival set that was simply blistering right out of the gate

Eugene ended up being a good show that took basically the entire first set to move beyond second gear

Particle dude is solidly adequate, tony leone is also solidly adequate. IMO just not on the level of Holly or John.

You know what they say about opinions

^Gorgeous view!

How's the sound up there?

Has anyone ever been eaten by a bear while watching a Grateful Dead related show? It would be a little ironic.

Nice photo.

It's a bit thin at that elevation, but you can still hear fairly well.  It's actually very good about half the vertical distance below.

Or getting struck by a lightning bolt!   (photo was actually on Thurs)

Beautiful

not much snow left on those 14ers...

Bucket list festy, next year for the 50th anniversary and my 65th! The lottery for tix/town camping in December?

we had that lineup last September for the mini Colorado tour. Firing on all cylinders and great venues

Great picture. Such a magical place. To bad the billionaires are pushing out the millionaires

https://youtube.com/watch?v=yBx05wMpNdM&feature=share havent watched this yet but since I dozed off before or during the sweet lullaby of peggy o... puttin it on now with a lil afterwork bowl

Yeah, it's like festivals have kind of become like "Caddy Day" for the rest of the population to get their 15 minutes in the pool ever year ...

Unfortunately, the larger Telluride region (including the Ouray side) could've been a National Park, but Capitalism got here first ... so we're seeing what happens when the free market gets its clutches on a unique natural jewel.    What makes the dynamic even worse is how very small clusters for housing on private property are surrounded by huge swaths of public lands; providing a disproportionate "ease of access" to those with $$$

> the larger Telluride region (including the Ouray side) could've been a National Park, but Capitalism got here first

In the mid-60s, something similar almost happened in Mineral King, which is now the southern unit of Sequoia National Park. The National Forest Service thought the area should be developed as a ski resort, and Disney's proposal was accepted.

The proposal by Walt Disney Productions (today, the Walt Disney Company) envisioned an "American Alpine Wonderland" on the floor of Mineral King Valley: a five-story hotel with 1,030 rooms, a movie theater, general store, pools, ice rinks, tennis courts, and a golf course. Twenty-two lifts and gondolas would scale the eight glacial cirques above the village, leading to ski runs four miles long with drops of 3,700 feet.

https://www.kcet.org/shows/lost-la/disneys-lost-plans-to-build-a-ski-res...

In 1969, the Sierra Club sued the heads of Sequoia National Park and Sequoia National Forest and the interior and agriculture secretaries in federal court, but in 1972, the US Supreme Court ruled that the Club did not have standing to bring the lawsuit. What eventually saved Mineral King was an Act of Congress: the National Parks and Recreation Act of 1978.

^ wow, that's really interesting about Disney!  I was not aware.  Luckily they were thwarted!

Seems National Parks are always under threat from external pressures on the periphery of their boundaries - let alone attempt to bisect internal terrain / habitats with new roads for development.

Here's another older one from firecracker hill looker's left of the stage which offers the best sound (you can even decend into the campground unnoticed):
