Phil sighting

Forums:

Phil looked ok to me, from two feet away. Pretty much the same. He's looking skinny but not frail or anything.

He sat next to us Tuesday night at TXR (we were psyched cause we were there on a quick West coast vacation) -- watching Barry Sless play petal steel with a pretty good local (non-Dead) band in the bar, checking his phone and sipping a beverage. Seemed to be enjoying himself.

He stayed for a while and left with a carry-out order. No entourage.

(Also found out that Barry Sless doesn't follow football.)

Now, TOD, if you must have more juicy TMZ-style details......I will report that Phil sipped two beverages simultaneously --- a bottled water and a darker drink in a plastic cup that could very well have been a root beer, but it looked uncannily like a stout or porter. I repeat, it just looked like that -- probably a heady Kombucha from Whole Foods or some specially-juiced dark-kelp spirulina  (I was just surprised the man was drinking from a plastic cup in his own restaurant.) And to add to the gossip rag conjecture, I did witness Phil greet Barry when their paths crossed and it was surprisingly quick and non-gregarious (even somewhat stiff) compared to how Phil interacted that evening with other of his musician friends (Stu Allen, Scott Guberman, etc.).

I'm skeptical, I don't recall any announcement of you trying to make it to terrapin...

Did you make it?

Can you give us a recap of the scene where you decided to ask Barry Sless about football?

 Good on you, man.

Phil showed up as a visage upon my Brunch tortilla today.

It was an organic Blue Corn tortilla,  and Miles Davis was on the radio.

Would have taken a Photo but well,  no time for that.

Bucky, I walked up to him and said hi and in the course of conversation made a Ravens reference and he said, "I don't follow football."

I don't know why but i was very mildly surprised.

(He's from my home town/suburb. Similar age. We grew up with the Baltimore Colts )

It's strange, I watched the Bears' game on Thanksgiving and realized I didn't know ANY of the players aside from the QB (who I'm struggling to remember his name), yet even at 50yo I can still probably throw a football better than the vast majority of guys in their 20's.  Watching sports just doesn't do it for me anymore, would much rather be doing something myself.

I'll see your "Phil sighting" and raise you a "Neil Young & Daryl Hannah sighting" at a coffee shop in Telluride last Tuesday.  They were both seated at a small table for two in the center of a very busy coffee shop (Ghost Town) that also serves avacado toast and other "fashionable" healthy food.  I waited in the order line only 3-4 feet from them & gave Neil room as he got up to go back and forth to bus his own table (while Daryl sat - "facing out" - observing the scene).  Neil didn't make eye contact, but just went about his business.   While he was seated, I kept playing this scene from Seinfeld in my head:
