Phil Lesh Tonight

Forums:

Once upon a time, a Phil appearance in Portland caused quite the stir with people knocking each other over to get tickets.  With the Family Band, not so much and I know a lot of people going to see Leftover Salmon, Mother Hips, or other bands tonight instead.

I am still going tonight.   Anyone else?   I know CT said he had tickets for tonight, so if I see you, I will buy you a beer.

As for tomorrow, I ended up getting a ticket for Bob Seger.   I still have my Phil ticket for tomorrow, which may be already accounted for, but if that doesn't happen, I might offer it up here as miracle.

Hey now!

yep, we’ll be there tonight.

and seger tomorrow! Stoked!

i missed leftover salmon last night, but heard that Vince Herman walked to a local bar (luckeys) and jammed with the house band until 2am after their show!

Hey Ken! You may have seen on the other thread that I'll be at LOS tonight too.

Might be interested in your Phil ticket for SAT... but can't decide until tomorrow PM.

Heard from a non-zoner friend that the Eugene LOS show @ Hult last night was excellent.

Have fun at the Leftover Salmon show.  I saw them last year at Revolution Hall (I think your SO was there, but it all runs together sometimes) and it smoked!

Also, let me know if you want that Saturday night Phil ticket.  You know things are different when you have trouble giving away a Phil ticket.

thanks Ken..  will email you off-zone about that ticket... pretty sure i want it.

at least that way there would be 1 zoner there to report the setlist, LOL.

I was supposed to go but a family emergency took priority. Have fun!

I am psyched to see Phil tonight. Can’t wait! Already started Pre-func. Would much rather see Phil than Leftover Salmon.

SSIA

Go see Phil!

Sorry, dude in backwards baseball cap is no Van Morrison.

Closed out first set with an anemic Into the Mystic.  Rest of the show has been ok and a good Throwing Stones, but crowded as anything with people falling out and getting hauled out by yellow shirts.

im not sure sure if i can think of anything more embarrassing than overdosing at a terrapin family band show. thats just next level.

Roseland Theater Portland, OR

Set I

Althea
Tangled Up in Blue
Cumberland Blues
Look at Miss Ohio
Dire Wolf
Monkey Man
Throwing Stones
Into the Mystic

Set II
The Music Never Stopped

I bet with just a little effort you can think of something more embarrassing than that daylight.

I have unconditional love in my heart for Phil, but some of the songs he has played lately makes me think he is being unduly influenced by really lame people, it's pathetic, I blame Ross James, there's some really negative energy with that guy, I am not a fan.

overdosing at a mickey hart brain helmet show?

Actually, most of Mickey's shows are pretty good.

And he is also, at least, a Big Leaguer.

Phil of course is so much more than that; he's one of the GOATs.

No shame in grokking out at a show with Phil Lesh on stage.

Band took off during the second set, but Phil had a serious "Bobby moment" during the Box o Rain reprise.  Good jamming.

     edit:  "make me think"

As an aside...I love Phil, I love Phil more than most if not all of you love Phil.  I've probably seen Phil play bass much more than you have, I don't want that to sound braggadocio but it's factually correct.  I LOVE PHIL!  That's why it's somewhat frustrating to see him playing with musicians that in a perfect world would be bypassed for savants.  That's not meant to be a criticism as much as a message in a bottle.

I was at this one...I think, possibly.

Why did I just read that using Trumps voice?

Kind of a funny story, but I was at the Louisville show at the Palace theater and I thought Joan Osborne and I had a romantic vibration during the 2nd set...I somehow thought we were hitting it off with eye to eye contact, anyways...after the show I'm asking myself..."Is this my new girlfriend?", I stayed at the Brown...if you ever get the chance, the groovy thing to do in Louisville is drink a glass of bourbon at the Brown Hotel.

The next day I woke up at the Brown and set out for Kansas City...I had absolutely no plans to go to the Starlight Amphitheater, but I thought maybe we were actually in love.  It was a roughly 450 mile drive.  When I arrived I was immediately styled on an extra by a guy that claimed to have met me at the Louisville show.  It became clear to me very shortly that there wasn't any genuine chemistry between myself and Joan.

The highlight of the evening was listening to "I am the Walrus" in what seemed like an English garden at the far left & rear of the concert.

I heard he killed a guy. Just rumour.

Second set was pretty darn good.

help on the way, unbroken chain, estimated were all highlights.

this is my question for those of you that care...

who would you replace in the family band, to make it a overall better band, capable of achieving its peak potential?

i think they would truly benefit from a great drummer.

’silent bob’ stage right didn’t add much imo

also the keyboard player, although he was playing, just seemed way too mellow to match the songs...

everyone - there is no consistent weak link or MVP. i have seen crosby crush it on several occasions and out of everyone except phil, he is the best and while there are many keyboard players id like to see in a lineup before him, crosby can hold his own for the most part, but he's not able to single handedly take the band into the stratosphere - not even close.

the whole concept of the family band, choosing the players because they are your family or close to your family, instead of for their musical skill, personal style or chemistry with other players, is what needs replacing.

Trade MFRJ vocals for T-Ham's.

So their old drummer is silent bob on the unnecessary 2nd rhythm guitar?

that explains a lot.. their new drummer seemed to be barely keeping up at times..

and although silent bob seemed to be a decent singer,

his guitar chops were non existent

Show should be starting soon.  They should be warmed up from last night.

{{{Silent Bob}}}

Are you at Seger Ken? My crew is in the nose-bleeds, 331...

Phil and Jill are all about the money at this point. The band members are essentially minimum wage musicians.

^exactly. awful band. can’t imagine dosing at these christian rock shows. sad stuff phil is doing.

TFB = viva.
