As we wind down 2017 and reminisce... it was twenty years ago, the first time since end of the GD, that Phil appears "on his own" (without Weir or any other Dead member) during a guest appearance with David Crosby's band. There is a soundcheck/rehearsal tape where he teaches the band Box of Rain and then goes to dinner. Returns for 3 tunes.
Phil Lesh & CPR (Crosby, Pevar & Raymond) - Box of Rain - Maritime Hall Concert 1/21/97 (Audio)

After a few other sit ins (David Murray Octet, Hornsby, and Further Fest), the next Phil surprise "solo" appearance was 8/10/97 with Vinyl at Bolinas-Stinson School and then the Broken Angels shows (featuring Phil) started in Sept 1997.
Philharmonia, Dec 97, seems to be the first time Phil was organizing his own show. http://www.philzone.com/philbase/almanac-philharmonia97.html
Followed by the first "official" Phil Lesh And Friends 2/27/98 at the Fillmore: (Jeff Chimenti, Dave Ellis, Stan Franks, Jay Lane, Phil Lesh, Bob Weir )
Phil had the CPR guys join him in May of 98 for a Phil and Friends SEVA benefit with Graham Nash.
Other early Phil and Friends had Weir, until April 99 shows with Trey and Kimock when Phil really goes "solo."

Brings to mind the disastrous Stan Franks.
At the time we thought the future of Grateful Dead music was in serious doubt....

I was at this and even ponied up big for a dead center 1st balcony seat.
Cracked me up to smell and see dank being puffed during the performance on the upper balconies.
Show was a kind of a train wreck.

The first Phil appearance
The first Phil appearance post-GD was with Hornsby at the Fillmore in 96 I believe, although that was with Bobby: http://www.bruuuce.com/2015/06/24/download-april-12-1996-wbob-weir-and-p...
Believe that was also the first time Phil played with Molo? I'm not 100% sure if he was in Bruce's band at that point, but I think so, and drums at this show definitely sound like him

Too bad the PnF with Scotty
Too bad the PnF with Scotty and Mark didn't work out, it would have been epic to have a run with Creek friends...Wow 20 years. Two great career bands for Phil, so glad I got to experience both of them...

I was at that Broken Angels show at Maritime Hall. It was so exciting at the time to see Phil playing out again. It gave me hope that there might be bigger things in store for Phil in the future. I remember the music being good too.

I missed this one, but wasn't it at The Warfield?

I caught so much shit from my friends for missing this one! I went to see Bob Segar, who I'd never seen before instead.

I loved this show. Yes it was hilarious seeing the posh Davies Hall packed with hippies! It seemed like pretty experimental music, with many polytonal melodic vocal and instrumental lines all going concurrently. At least that's how I remember it...

I remember enjoying Mystery Box, and vaguely recall Sammy Hagar coming out but I don't know if I was aware of all the rest of the personnel you mention playing...damn burnt synapses!
