IWT great show

isn't Wallingford, CT the home of the steamed cheeseburger?

Wallingford had a place called Chet's (I think) whose claim to fame was their steamed cheeseburgers. Wikipedia tells me Jack's Lunch in nearby Middletown made the original steamed cheeseburger.

My first real job was at Oakdale in the mid-70s as an apprentice on the stage crew when I was 15. They did some concerts back then, I know Aerosmith played there at least once, but mostly staged touring versions of Broadway plays.

It was a good show. I have a an excellent recording. The band was much stronger, starting in the fall of 2000 with Jimmy and Warren. The next year in Spring 2001 at the Oakdale, Jeff Pevar was walking around the lobby, hanging out.

Have you ever had a steamed cheeseburger? Do they still make them?

I try to experience the local cuisine when traveling. I was in Meridian CT(?) between New England / NY shows way back when (late 70s /early 80s) and that was the local bar food. They made a big deal outta it. Took me to a couple places to get one.

It sounded vile but in reality I recall it was just a juicy burger with cheese melted to the point of being infused.

Principal Skinner called them "Steamed Hams"  while explaining to the School Superintendent (Chalmers) about the Dinner.

Not in Utica,  it's an Albany expression...

Great memory:  4/6 was my best friend's birthday.  Three of us drove 175 miles south, and he and his wife drove 300 miles north.

Of course, we met at    PEPE's PIZZA, with a couple old local friends before the show.  Ordered about 10 small pies, and feasted, before heading over to the Oakdale.

Came in during the first Jam.  They went into Attics when we were in the lobby.  I recorded it from the balcony.  Loved Jeff Peavar's addition and his take on the jams.  What a great memory and what a great show!  Box of Rain was so much appreciated.

Hey Mike - Do you remember the Carpenters playing at Oakdale when we were kids?

I think I sang in a kids chorus with them at one of their shows there...

I feel I need to play Beggars Banquet when reading that font
