bobby and russo are both in town...

Cris Jacobs is one of them.

Apparently he's buddies with Grahame Lesh.  (Grahame sat in at a recent CJ show at 8x10.)

Could be good - Cris can do the outlaw country thing and Dead thing.

"...he's found a fan in Sturgill Simpson, the Kentucky country singer-songwriter who earned a 2017 Grammy nomination for album of the year. After hitting things off in 2014 while sharing a bill at the Birchmere in Virginia, Simpson and Jacobs stayed in touch. Since then, Simpson has offered opening slots to Jacobs for nearly 20 national shows."

So these are Festival Sets, right?  Phil will get 60-75 minutes?

Ross James will sing Sweet Jane to open the set

Hoover for the win (in 13th inning)

i am going to see our leader!!

Have fun turttle...might couch a bit sometimes westies are easier to catch ,here in France, croissants , n coffee

That's a great bill.  Save your cocaine for around 8:04.  After the first 4 acts things are gonna slow down a bit.

i don't do coke but it will make friend of the devil seem faster?

Is Particle Kid any good? Wonder if Lukas will play any Gaga tunes from A Star Is Born.

Particle Kid = moody mellowness...  Might need a few lines for that too.

I'm sure Lukas is happy for the payday and he'll keep those songs on the back burner...but who knows.

Turtle -- the answer is yes. Cocaine does make a dirgey version of FOTD seem faster.

I'm excited for my big custie show!!

Yeah! We're hitting Westival At 4:20, then the Dodger game, pumpkin carving and pumpkin ice cream because it's mid 80s in October.

Lagunitas Super Clusters!

. >>>>>Cocaine does make a dirgey version of FOTD seem faster.

I disagree. When I used to snort lines in the 70s/80s a whole lot of music started sounding too slow. Especially a slow FOTD.

>>I'm excited for my big custie show!!

Make sure to buy the t-shirt on the way in and promptly put it on~

Any other CA zoners in attendance?

The socal contingent used to be formidable.

People are seeing Bobby and the was not was guy, but not our leader?

#sad

Hope you get a Neil Young sit-in.  Thanks for representing.  Have fun!

Hey Turtle --

Have a Fun and enjoy all the Music.

Must be totally Awesome seeing a whole day of bands at Hollywood Bowl.

Any reports?

i'll take some pics. it is a beautiful fall day.

I Cancelled T - In Big Pain Today = No Go...............

So, he managed to keep the friends a secret?

And, have we got a stream link?

Had to bail on this one, unfortunately..

>>>So, he managed to keep the friends a secret?

Far as I know, its still a secret. Really not a fan of that..I'd like to know what I am buying a ticket to.

Hopefully someone does a stream-

Chris Jacobs killing it

Jackie Greene

Jason Crosby

So who is in Phil’s band?

Shakedown

God morning, people!

Viola>China Cat>Viola>China

"No Graham Lesh."

Hey, I saw you on the stream, Zooey.

Woot!

Sturgill was bonkers. Blew the fucking roof off.need to hear that back. It was loud and punk rock. Rock and roll.

Althea

New Minglewood Blues

Brown-Eyed Women

Candyman

China Cat Sunflower

Shakedown Street

Viola Lee Blues

Sugaree

Turn On Your Love Light

When the stage turned around to unveil the lineup... I was disappointed to see Jakie with the same hat on as always....the sound, anD typical 'souree'.. and the fastest candyman I've ever heard. Weird set is didn't fit the Outlaw theme.... strange Friends in a strange Country Festival

Just Leftys 2 cents

Sturgil  was the only set with any energy and was the best band of the evening

Nice to get outta the house

.. and the fastest candyman I've ever heard<<<

I do recall him re-arranging Ripple a few years back in Vegas ... came out sounding something like a "Box of Ripple", but I liked it.

Jackie continuing to fulfill his Sugaree contract obligation. That's nice.

He didn't sing 'Sugaree'; the other capable but nondescript guitarist did.

Who was the drummer?

^ At least Phil is beaming in that first jambase photo.

And, interesting, there was a Graham in the band.

very interesting evening.

as stated, sturgill was killer, stole the show. that was the hardest i've seen a band play outside of the DNB in quite some time. The sound for his set was KILLER and you could tell they were digging blowing up the bowl.

sound was differrent with the spinning stage. there was little to zero downtime between acts. it was super bizzare to see the stage spin around and phil already playing, like a country bear jamboree thing, super weird. Jackie, while not a fan...is at least not ross james or g. lesh. He was serviceable. Apparently Chris Jacobs is a baltimore dude from the band the Bridge, who is actually pretty good...look them up on the archive. His friends were in the box next to us and said the dude had like a 3 day notice to come sing Althea for 30,000 people. He did fine, it'd been nice to maybe rehearse....Phil.

Of course great to see phil, tried to appreciate his time with us. Lukas was good as was Margo, altough my better half doesn't care for her, she was good. Willie was terrific and doning the Dodger jersey was so cute.

Now for the human element...Apparently buying a box was not enough to escape the super douches. Everyone else was polite and great except for the late comers tot he adjacent box. 4 millenial suepr douchers. Fucked up, stupid, loud, endless selfie flash fuckers incessently video doucumenting their douchery. Horrible humans. The "leader" of the douche crew was all dressed up in his hipster cowboy outfit along with feathered douche hat. Ignored the shit show as long as I could until i grabbed super douche on the shoulders, sitting on the edge of ourr box. told him, blah blah, gonna talk the whole fucking show or just half? Quited him down for 5 mins....he was worse than the chicks he was with. Special kind of supeer selfie hipster cowboy douche. didn't know they made this kind of douche. He continued to spiral out fo control hanging into our box and waving his fucking phone, basically in my friends seat becasue he was standing in front. finallly snapped and shoved yankee doodle off the rail. his less douchey counterpart intervened. i won't be seeing any more large arena shows, pretty much at all.  luckily the split as wille came on and we had 1 realitvely uniterrupted set of douche free music.

god bless willie nelson and phil lesh.

So, the people next to you were douches?

BrainK -- sounds liek they were Super-douches.

Then again,  it is LA and everyone wants to be a Movie-Star.

Congrats Turtle for keeping the Peace..

it took a lot.

i'm a tolerant person.

this guy was like some matthew mcconeghy(sp?) wanna be in his cute cowboy outfit. the whole experience was about him. he literally did not shut the fuck up for like 3 sets.  not sure why people go to shows? the chicks were googling who sturgill was...it's weird when men just keep talking.....and talking.

willie looked tired, peace and wellness to him. he hugged most of the people at the sing a-long at the end of the evening but shook phil's hand. suppose the rest of the musicans have been on most of the tour. seeing phil and willie together on the stage was super cool.

Thanks For The Insight T ! yes  and Sorry For The SUPER Douche nono

It's obvious the drugs weren't good enough. Just enough to babble, not enough to be speechless.

Special kind of supeer selfie hipster cowboy douche.<<<<<

Welcome to L.A.

Cherchez la douche?  C'est tout les choses.

Turtle did you see Margo Price?  She's hot and can play guitar and drums and sings too.  I have seen her a couple times .  Worth a listen.  Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real are awesome too.

Margo was good and sang lovelight with Phil.

I think shakedown may have been when I lost my mind.

But people. Sturgill played like his life depended on it.

“You could just say no thank you, bro.”

>>Sturgill was bonkers. Blew the fucking roof off.need to hear that back. It was loud and punk rock. Rock and roll.

 yeah!

share a link when you find.

I just don't deal well with being infringed upon. Why do people just take it?

You would have been amused hoover

When they tried to pick up and leave I said, "better saddle up partner"...he didn't like that either.

"Better saddle up partner"

Classic.

Shitheads like that are a big part of why I don't go to many shows anymore.

I just end up wanting to murder someone and that's not a fun night out.

I've just reached that point local.

>> willie looked tired, peace and wellness to him. he hugged most of the people at the sing a-long at the end of the evening but shook phil's hand. suppose the rest of the musicans have been on most of the tour. seeing phil and willie together on the stage was super cool.

Remember WIllie did half of The Dead '03 tour, so it's not like he and Phil have never crossed paths (not to mention a few gigs opening for the GD over the years).  Saw Willie do a great sit-in with The Dead at WIllie's July 4th picnic that year, El Paso > Ripple > Milestones, can't beat that!  I wouldn't read much into the "no hug for Phil."

Saw Willie recently, he is in the twilight of his career, for sure.  His lungs seem to be an issue, his nasal whine has been mostly replaced by a breathy growl.  But it's great to see him still out there, playing and writing songs and being Willie.  He's an american treasure like Miles Davis, Jerry Garcia, or Bob Dylan (all Columbia artists at one time or another, btw), and every show is a gift.
