From Phil's FB page;

Going back to where it all began, a dream we dreamed one afternoon, long ago. I couldn’t be more excited to take this trip down to Palo Alto with my dear friends Grahame Lesh, Scott Metzger, Joe Russo, John Scofield, and Benmont Tench.

Announcing the lineup already?

^^^ LOL and... woo hoo! That lineup works for me. :)

Right on. Count me in.

Wow, shit. I'll be at Red Rocks with JRAD the night before. I guess we'll see Joe and Scott on the flight.

Meh on Scofield.

Close to a deal-breaker for me, but I imagine I'll be there.

It will be interesting to see how many others will be there.

> Follow @goldenvoicebayarea on IG for presale info

I'm not on Insta. Is there a presale code? Will it be posted here?

Now we're talking.

Mike, I just followed that Insta account -- they haven't posted anything yet.

There is also an AMEX presale on the ticketing page -- though no info has been posted yet.

I like Scofield with Phil.

I like Scofield with Phil.

Me too! Pretty psyched for this.......and my son graduates 8th grade the night before!

Thanks, LLOLLO.

And yeah, I like Scofield too.

Yay! Hope to see you there!!!

AMEX presale: Offer Begins: Wed, Mar 9, 2022 - 10:00AM PST / Offer Ends: Thu, Mar 10, 2022 - 10:00PM PST

Price: $75.00 - $80.00 /ea.

I wonder what you get for the extra $5

I turn 51 two days later and I know a whole bunch of zoners have late May, early June birthdays. I think it's time for a visit..  you've been warned smiley

Shit.   I leave two days before.   Hmmm do I come back.

Is the Frost usually all GA?

I approve this lineup... and, it's my 69th birthday

what's not to like???

hope to see a bunch of familiar freaks there!

Taurus and Gemini fest!

Pretty sure Frost was all GA for JRAD.

Frost has always been GA when the GD played there. It's a new world today.

Happy upcoming 69, Mr. Fish.

Wonderful News!

And Happy Opposite-of-Belated Birthday Gary!

The show will be all GA for sure, and I wouldn't worry if you don't get right on the pre-sale. The Frost is a pretty big venue, I seriously doubt this show will sell out.

Which is a good thing, as the Frost is also a much more enjoyable venue when it's not packed.

Darn, Now you tell me heathentom, I just paid the $7500 Stanford alum membership fee  to get in on yesterdays pre-sale.

FUCKING THANK YOU DUDE

just one more actual PLF show in a normal venue is all ive been wanting for years. i can accept a bit of GL in the mix since russo, metzger and sco will be there. i am pretty exited for this.

Daylight,

I hope to see you there.  It's been awhile.

That's going to be a great show.  Nice friends.

Edit...

The AXS website is behaving strangely. The event page has a button that says on sale Mar 11, 2022 - 10:00 AM, but when you click it it goes to a page that says on sale today.

And now it wants a promo code. Anyone got one?

RUNTHEWORLD

Thank you, Zooey!!!

Yes, thank you Zooey!

see y'all there....or not devil

I'm in!

I'm excited to see Phil at The Frost. Big enough for a grand experience, but not too big and industrial like most arenas and stadiums.

Last Phil & Friends show I attended was at TXR in January 2020. Music was good and I enjoyed it. My fuzzy memory thinks it was The Q, or a lineup including some of the Q members. I searched a bit but couldn't find set list info. Any info to jolt the memory is appreciated.

I do remember that I caught the wookie flu at that TXR Phil show, about 6-8 weeks before covid-19 slapped the world upside its head. Pretty sure it was not covid. But covid or not, I'm done with the wookie flu if I can avoid it. My health protocol now and in the future is: No more sharing joints and bowls for me. If you want to get high with me, I'll gladly give you some weed, or you can gladly give me weed, but either way we don't need to share the same joint or pipe. It's just like having a drink together. Same thing. You drink out of your glass, and I'll drink out of mine. There's enough abundance to go around. Cheers!

As much as I appreciated the Grate Room for its intimacy and fabulous Meyers sound system, as well as convenient location (I live in Petaluma), I miss the greater collective energy that happens when several thousand Dead Heads get together for music and dance, as opposed to 350 max. It's great that everybody who is willing to pay $91 including the ticket bastard fees (the going rate?) can get a ticket. I'm psyched!

Well said, Tofu. I told a friend just the other day that I was done sharing joints and pipes. It's kind of a sad thing to surrender the ritual of puff-puff-pass, but a necessary one anymore.

Hoping to see the legendary Airdrummer

I don't know if this was just added, maybe I missed it when this show was announced, but I just noticed that Midnight North is opening the Phil Frost show.

How much time will they get? I believe there is a firm 10:00pm curfew at the Frost, so even if MN only gets 45 minutes (more likely an hour) does this mean that Phil will be one long set, or two shorter sets?

One long set would be OK with me, as those long one-setters can get trippy with the song placements and jams, and in my old age two shorter sets is OK too, except sometimes the band is just starting to gel when they shut it down. Ultimately, I just don't like there being any opening act.

With all the touring they've done, Midnight North has improved and is actually a nice little band. I saw them a couple of weeks ago at the new little venue in Menlo Park and I enjoyed it. I just have a hard time hanging in these days with opening acts, which means I'll likely show up to this show late, which means I'll be looking to poach some closer space with some of you!

"Oh shit, there's Lance! DUCK!!!"

I don't know if this was just added, maybe I missed it when this show was announced, but I just noticed that Midnight North is opening the Phil Frost show.

That was most definitely not part of the original announcement, and while it wouldn't change my decision to attend I think it's lame. Of course, it is nice for Grahame to play his Alma Mater and hopefully some of Phil's team sits in with MN.

Website says they'll be playing at 4:30pm.

Entrance music?

Gates open at 4:30, so it's possible they could be playing while people enter, but that would be a bit unusual

>>>Website says they'll be playing at 4:30pm<<<

What website?

Midnight North's website has a link to this page:

Screenshot_20220415_202644.jpg

They might be saying 4:30 because its when gates open, but I could see MN playing at 5 or something.

Bandsintown is not an official site. The links to tickets all say 6:00.

It's pretty bad form to advertise a band and a show start time, then have an advertised band play before that time. People can get pissed and want refunds. Not likely in this case, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them change to an earlier start time.

Or Phil's just going to play a shorter show.

The showtime is definitely 6:00. I suspect it will be a one set Phil show.

Midnight North.......6-6:45

Phil....... 7:30-10

Seems about right.

Exactly.

I once went to a DSO show that they'd added a Donna Jean and the Tricksters opening set for, and they moved up doors earlier as a result, but they never announced it to ticketholders. I just checked the doors time the day before and got there then to get a rail spot, and was one of like 8 people in a 1600 person venue that watched the Donna set, which was good, but weird

I saw Zappa Plays Zappa few years ago, which was an early show at a large club, where, for some reason, they opened the doors at advertised showtime and the band was already playing as the crowd streamed in. I guess they wanted to play as full a set as possible before the late show, which was some hip-hop thing.

anyone need a ticket

>>> anyone need a ticket

I do!  June 4th is my birthday!

email is in my Profile

Nice, bob k, and happy Gary.

>>>Midnight North is opening

I don't mind getting there early and holding space for a couple hours and even enduring an opening act, but not if main act isn't going to play for a solid two and half to three hours after that.  This definitely changes things... may have to follow Lance Wedgeberry's lead.

Where is the free parking for the amphitheater?

^I've parked on Alma St near the Palo Alto Caltrain Station, smoked a bowl, and enjoyed the walk through campus.

The locals may have a better plan.

Parking is free in the campus on weekends.

Yeah Woz but 6-4-22 is a Sat???

Saturday is not part of the weekend or a weekend day? However, I do recall seeing something along the lines of $30 to park for this event.

Yes, you can choose to pay 30 bucks to pay for special event parking on campus

or you can park for free in most any other parking lot (A and C) for free on weekends or weekdays after 4 pm

best bet for free parking is the athletic field parking off Nelson drive or the Maples pavilion parking garage

Thx Nancy

Hey, my bad, read Woz's wrong...

Thanks Nancy!

Bump,  less than a week away

Buckle Up Kids

Only been to Frost once before.

Must I really bring a blanket for a land grab?

Isn't there a flow?

Maybe blankets are the expectation, but pls tell me the reality .

Blankets not necessary in the front 'bowl' close to the stage where there's more flow, but most folks picnic and hang on their blankets on the terraced lawn space.

and well expect it to get crowded up front and you'll likely  encounter the typical territorial 'hoodie mafia'  at this show near the rail.

so 'flow' can happen but maybe not in all spaces, sane as it's always been at Phil shows

DO NOT PARK in the Town & Country Shopping Center across the street--they will tow you.  Onsite parking isn't bad--don't know what they charged--last I was there fpr Dylan in October 2019 and it was $30 onsite.  You can try and find spots in downtown Palo Alto on Emerson, Coper, Lytton, Hamilton, Bryant and its a 10 minute walk across the El Camino.

Just look at the Stanford parking map - there is free parking in all the campus parking garages and in most all parking spaces (A&C) on weekends all day and also  weekdays after 4 pm.

or pay for 'event' parking, but you really can find parking just as close for free. The Roth Way parking garage near the Cantor Museum with bathroom access inside the museum. There's also free parking by the athletic fields

Thanks all, good info.

I'm familiar w/ that Town & Country Ctr.  There's a Trader Joe's s behind it.

Good to know there is flow up front...

Picnic at a show? What a concept.   ;)

I am excited. This will be my first Frost show since the 80s.

^^^ Extra special!!!!

I have 2 extras . $ 70.00 Ea.

Does anyone need a single ADA ticket?

Oh hi, it's your old pal hedspace.

This show isn't selling very well. Who said to never buy presale tix? This is the first time I've seen the AXS site reselling tickets below face. Good time to grab them cheap or put them up for sale on the ASX site if you need to unload them and want to recoup some of the costs.

Possible rain in forecast.   Hope not.

I would actually welcome some rain, but it's unlikely.

(((RAIN DANCE)))

<<DISCUSSION...as of 12:03 PM PDT Tuesday...

Today through Thursday:
High pressure aloft will build into the area with rising heights and low-level warm thermal advection commencing. This will allow for mild to warm surface temperatures, limited cloud cover, and at times breezy offshore flow for areas bordering the Sacramento Valley. With a warm downsloping pattern inland valley temperatures should climb into the mid to upper 80s this afternoon, with cooler marine- influenced areas remaining in the mid 60s to lower 70s. Similar conditions are expected for Wednesday and Thursday. The warmest readings should be on Wednesday afternoon when some inland areas could eclipse 90 degrees. Otherwise a bit more cooling along the coast by Thursday as an onshore flow develops.

Friday through Monday:
An upper low should pinwheel about across the northeast Pacific and Gulf of Alaska as downstream perturbations are ejected into NorCal and the Pacific Northwest this weekend. The best moisture flux should reach our area late Saturday into Sunday with a chance for light rain showers. Amounts appear light and favor the Bay Area and points northward. Temperatures should be below the seasonal averages with troughing, clouds, and possible showers in the area. Looking ahead a much warmer and drier pattern appears to take shape by the early to mid portion of next week.

guess i may never make it there.

not worth the travel and related expenses for a 1 set-er...

>expect it to get crowded up front and you'll likely  encounter the typical territorial 'hoodie mafia'  at this show near the rail.

Are you going to complain to Jill again?

These guys are going to be playing with little or no practice. Russo and Metzger are in CO the previous three nights and Scofield finished his European tour on the 29th.

^Are you actually surprised by that now seemingly standard PLF MO?

Same as it ever was with P&F.   They can rehearse during the Midnight North set :-)

Exactly why I won't make the trip from SoCal, but happily did for one set of Wolf Brothers

I'm making the trip from SoCal, and you can call me crazy, but I like some improv in my jams.

Two sets of Phil!

The event time has changed for Phil Lesh & Friends at Frost Amphitheater at Stanford onJune 4, 2022. The new schedule is as follows:

Doors: 4:30PM

Show: 5:00PM

Enjoy the show!

Is a 3-set show actually confirmed or is it just an 'Early Bird Show' time change? At any rate, no spot taken, ENJOY!!

Where are you seeing that, Woz? AXS ticket app still showing 6 pm start time. Doors were always scheduled at 4:30 pm.

edit: nevermind - my email from AXS just arrived

And I doubt Midnight  North will actually start at that 5 pm time, unless they're quicker with the sound check than Bobby/Mickey..

Just got an email from AXS: doors 4:30, show starts 5:00

And I hope it pays off for you Mike and all the other folks going :-)

Just got an email saying time changed to doors 4:30. Show 5pm....??

So  half hour to get people in the venue to hear Midnight North who will start playing at 5 pm. Color me skeptical that there will be 2 sets of Phil. One set is fine, IMO and just more likely with an opening act at that venue

78BAE348-3100-4548-8E47-66380C515847.jpeg....

A reminder that Joey, Scott and John have played with Phil before... not like they need to be taught anything... they just need Phil to be the fearless leader and listen for his cues

Tench played with Phil recently too. Maybe at the Cap?

Edit: Yep. Last October. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDRTOPAb3_0

I was there.  He had the crowd cheering for him for over 4 mins:  China Doll.

Thanks to Andy's organizational efforts, a bunch of us will be meeting for some food before the show. We'll be getting together at 2:00 PM; hope to see some of you there:

Driftwood Sandwiches & Deli Market
3450 El Camino Real
Palo Alto, CA 94306

https://driftwooddeliandmarket.com/

^^^ Got that invite, glad you posted it!

Thanks Andy for organizing, looks like they have a sizeable patio for outdoor dining.... and I bet you can order ahead from the Google Maps link on your phone, hint hint.

W/ the earlier time my show date-Portland-Sister-Tricia and I are 50/50 to make it there on time from Shasta.

Hopefully it will work out and I don't get another speeding ticket. ;)

You'll make it in time.

Phil will likely hit the stage till sometime after 7:30 pm. The doors actually opening on time and the opening act actually starting on time is highly unlikely.

Cool beans on the meet up.

(next time I suggest meeting up on Campus - really nice patio out back at the  CoHo and TreeHouse Cafe. That way people can find early free parking and then walk over to the venue afterward)

Could that mean 2 hours of Midnight North, really?!!

They're the ones who should play one 45-minute set!

I'm just sayin that it's highly unlikely that Midnight North will be hitting the stage promptly at 5 pm or even close to that. We shall see..

Tickets aren't selling well, so floating the possibility of 2 sets of Phil might entice more fans to buy tickets. Next trick up the promoter's sleeve is to announce "Special" I mean really special guests :)

(I've got my ticket and will be enjoying pregame on campus..I'll update you on how the sound check is going and if the doors actually open at 4:30 pm -  just so you don't get the need to speed)

LOL Thanks Nancy!
Planning to park at Roth garage.

Did JRAD sell out Frost? T-Ham and Dreiwitz aren't that good. Metzger does all the heavy lifting.

IMO there's a good chance that with the new starting time it's Midnight North 5:15 - 6:15, Phil 7:00 - 8:10ish, break, Phil 8:50ish - 10:00.

There's really no other logical reason for changing the start time of the show, unless Phil has a plane to catch, which seems unlikely.

From a promoter's point of view it's never a good thing to move a show time earlier. In the modern era almost no one doesn't get the message, but some don't and are pissed, and others use it as an excuse to whine for a refund because they wanted to see the opening band.

Phil's 82, he may just want a chance to sit down, and have a nice pee. Us old-timers enjoy those things more & more often as time goes on.

As for those guys all having played with Phil before, it's not like a video game, musicians need time to warm to the songs & each other, and one run-through of the set in the afternoon is never the best situation. That's the way it worked at TxR, but that was a MUCH smaller room, and even there the lack of rehearsal often showed with players who don't play much with Phil or GD music (which is why the locals often worked much better in actual depth of playing at TxR).

IMO the chances of there being much serious improv with Scofield is sketchy. He'll give lots of technical wizardry and fireworks, but in the jams and "improv" he will invariably fall back on call & response "jamming", which he always goes to with Phil but is a cheap shortcut to real improv, which he is not schooled in.

It's about 50-50 if I'll be there. I'm not thrilled with the band (I don't get excited over "names" so much) and I have something else I could/should be doing that night...

But it's an easy in and it's Phil Lesh in 2022, which is fucking amazing in itself.

We will see.

> Metzger does all the heavy lifting.

Um, Joe Russo?

0752C651-B51F-49EA-8A14-B48C3A8DED4D.jpeg

You guys know I'm just coming to see everybody
The show will be nice but I really don't care what happens
For me it's all about you.. See ya Saturday!!!

^I like that! A very important component of 'the whole thing' that you stated very well. ENJOY ALL!

>IMO there's a good chance that with the new starting time it's Midnight North 5:15 - 6:15, Phil 7:00 - 8:10ish, break, Phil 8:50ish - 10:00.

I could see that happening, IF the load in, sound check, etc are on schedule and IF the doors open on time. Well, back to my original comment which is that Midnight North will be playing as people enter. No way possible to get everyone inside the venue by 5pm, even if the doors actually do open on time  at 4:30 pm.

Were you at the Billy/Mickey show, Lance? If you were you were there, you'd   understand  how there can and will most likley be plenty of delays. That show was totally worth it though.

Mickey's band was amazing. I never expected to be saying that. Guess the key is keeping the expectations low.

Guess the key is keeping the expectations low.

That is the key to life in general.

I think we are headed for early line duty. Hope to see ya there...

Sometimes I wish we had a Zoner portrait map as I haven't met so many of you -- but of course there are privacy issues and all that.

Here's one of my better headshots..

hunchback2-39-344991123_0.jpg

>>>Were you at the Billy/Mickey show, Lance<<<

No, I wasn't at the Wolf Bros./Mickey show, and I definitely understand about delays, but I'd bet that those were mostly because of Mickey, who is notorious for that type of thing.

It's possible that Phil's sound check/rehearsal could go long and cut into Midnight North's sound check time, but I don't think MN is going to complain and force a late opening.

Goldenvoice is a professional operation, I'd expect the doors to be on time.

I'm told two sets of Phil on Sunday and MN will start on time.

Ok, but what  about Saturday?!

Thanks Woz, that's good to hear!

OK Zoners, I'm on the road south in a few hours... If you see the Mystery Machine (my old black wagon, now w/ Oregon plates) flying by on campus, that's me!

Safe travels to all.

a friend of a friend is selling 4 tix for $365

i'll get you together with the seller if interested

p.s. I will not be attending the festivities

Any word on a stream? TaperRob or otherwise? Seems like a fun show to hit. It has that classic Phil vibe to it in these strange modern times. For those going, live it up.

We dug him up on Tuesday
He'd hardly aged a day
Taught us all we ever knew
We never knew so much before
We may never know so much again

<<DISCUSSION...as of 2:15 PM PDT

Friday...Temperatures running similar to 24 hours ago with readings currently upper 60s around the bay and 70s inland. Onshore SFO to Sac gradient is around 3.5 mb with gusty onshore winds throughout the region. Some low clouds along the coast and inside SF Bay have been slow to clear as a few high clouds are increasing over the region. A nice Friday night in store with lows mainly in the mid 50s.

For Saturday clouds will increase as a plume of moisture is working across the Pacific that will eventually bring some light rain chances to the region. TPW plume in excess of 1.75 inches will take aim at the far NorCal coast later Saturday and then drift southward and dissipate south of the Golden Gate by Sunday morning. Forecast rain totals in the North Bay of 0.10-0.25 for the valleys with local amounts to 0.50 for the Sonoma hills. South of the Golden Gate amounts a tenth or less with a few hundredths likely for places like San Francisco down to around 0.01 for San Jose.

Temps remain cool with mainly lower to mid 70s Sunday but with high dewpoints the air will feel muggy. Once the rain chances end by Sunday afternoon they may not return for the foreseeable future.

High pressure builds Monday through Friday with a gradual warming trend, especially inland by the second half of next week. Though hot temps may return for inland areas, the coast and bays should remain mild with a persistent onshore wind and well established marine layer next week.

safe to expect that yes. did you get the email about what is allowed (clear bags)? at sports events on campus you empty your pockets and go through metal detector, and they look in bags.

Yes, hard 10 pm curfew.

Some really incredible jams last night  and also some jams that fell flat, off tempo and  discombobulated. But mostly all really good.

Overall, I thought last night was a fine show, but musically, I thought the first set was a lot more interesting than the second. And, of course, the scene at the Frost was sublime. Good seeing a few of you.

$14 for a can of beer. That is not a typo. Cash not accepted.

^And you're surprised by this in Silicon Valley?

C'mon Pete!

Hope everyone had a fun time.

^Damn!

I was too overwhelmed to even consider standing in line for refreshments.

The place felt a bit too packed for my taste.

That being said, it was nice connecting with so many friends.

What an incredible place.

$5 for a can of water, which had a screw top, so it was refillable, but I saw a lot of them just scattered on the ground.

Has anyone here said anything yet about the anniversary of this date?

27 has always been an interesting number. Pigpen and Janis died at 27, among other things.

27 years earlier, on June 4 1995, Garcia and the GD played their final CA show, at Shoreline, right down the street from Palo Alto. That’s where it all ended for Jerry on his home turf. (I was there, I’m sure many others here were too.)

Phil could have chosen any date around this time to play his first sole-headlining show of the year, and he could have chosen any number of venues to play it. But it was Palo Alto, not far from where Pigpen is buried, and it was June 4, 27 years after that final GD show in California, minutes away at Shoreline.

Even if it was totally unintentional... still, very interesting. And if it WAS intentional... then it is astounding.

Mike, I was glad to see you at the drinking fountains! yes

I had a lot of fun, it was good seeing a bunch of zoners!

I was also quite pleasantly surprised to run into a bunch of DNC folk who I hadn't seen in almost 20 years, like katrinka, darkstar, chris, and onionboy. They had the old goat banner spread out on some seats in the ADA section just in front of my perch on the hill.

Paid only $10 apiece for Modelos  from the vendor cruising the venue.
Never had to leave my spot.

Great to see you again Johnny D.

Just got back from the show. We are indeed truly lucky to have Phil and each other and these wonderful shows at that special venue. The show ended up filling up pretty well but I did not think it was TOO full. Looks like the $50 tickets and the added set did the trick to get heads in the door.

That said, the show (despite some strong moments) was weak overall. Unrehearsed, certainly. Phil seems to be no longer directing the music, Grahame is running the show, from what I could tell. I was impressed last year when Grahame played with Phil at the Beach Park, but the chemistry just wasn't there on Saturday. What the hell is Jr. doing up there trading licks with John Scofield anyway? It was awkward and not very cohesive. And Phil only did some sporadic vocals- I don't think he took 100% lead vocals on any song, and his voice was not strong. Not that I really need Phil to be singing lead vocals, but it's not a good sign that he seems to be stepping back so much. He looked very old up there, a little feeble, even lost at times. I think it's great for him to do a local show with a pickup band (and I'll always show up if he shows up) but his full summer schedule has me scratching my head, and I'm wondering how it will shake out for him. I won't say I'm "worried" for Phil but he is no longer the driving force in these shows and his stamina is not what it used to be (I get it, he's 82). Maybe he'd be more comfortable with a stool (or Bobby ladder?).

Also getting an Eyes and a Let it Grow, after getting those same tunes with Bobby last month, was a little redundant.

Hard to complain, though. The weather was mild, the crowd was gracious for the most part, and it was an increasingly rare opportunity to groove with our Fearless Leader and "do the thing" we all love to do. Long Live Our Kind!

>>>$14 for a can of beer<<<

You must not get out much these days Pete. And BTW, how big was the can?

And Grahame isn't "running the show". He was trading licks with Scofield because somebody had to do something besides Metzger, who to my ear saved the day, with Scofield as usual either lost or tentative, at best a half step behind and relying on call & response noodling.

If Phil had one of his local TxR regulars like Lebo or Scott Law on guitar instead of Scofield and one of the MANY schooled keyboard players instead of the pedestrian Benmont Tench, who was at least on the streams mostly nowhere to be found, things would have been much more cohesive and the music would have gone MUCH deeper.

But Scofield and Tench are "names" that helped sell tickets. That's what happens when you play the big houses and are forced to give people what they want, instead of what they SHOULD want.

It looks like the place was much fuller than I was expecting, so that's nice, everybody made some money, and it's good that folks got out and had some fun, but musically it sounded pretty much exactly what I expected. Granted, I only listened to the streams so I don't know at all what it sounded like in the venue, but I still don't feel like I missed much musically by not being there.

Until the end of your post, Lance, it sounded like you went to the show.

To me the band sounded a bit rough, but I kind of liked some of the disjointed arrangements and transitions. That's something I have enjoyed the last 20+ years, hearing my Grateful Dead songs approached in different ways by Phil (and there was no Grateful Dead until Phil joined Jerry's band) with different aggregations of quite different musicians. Some groups jelled better than others. The Q was the crème de la crème.

In my view, Graham has really developed and benefited from a lot of time on stage. Most of us can probably appreciate that it is tough being the son of an iconic genius. More often than not going forward it seems clear, Graham will be among the Friends because Phil obviously wants to play with his son and help his career along. I have no doubt Phil still runs the show, but Phil and Friends is a family business and we can bet he consults closely with his wife and his son. It warmed my heart seeing Graham and Phil walk off stage together at the end of the show. Solid family values.

For me also this was the social event of the season, thus far. Really grand to see many of you for the first time in way too long.

Mike Edwards, sorry to have missed you. Some day we will meet.

Looking forward to next Sunday at Marymoor.  Stu Allen and Steve Molitz have more familiarity with the music than Scofield and Tench, so hopefully we'll get a more cohesive show.

Before that however, there's a road-trip down to SF for Taj & Ry at the Great American Music Hall on Thursday night.  Should be a great week of live music.

Funny this board is all ways right in line with my ears at a show. Can't argue with any of it. Tench was no where to be found, the band was all over the place, first set was better than second, and yeah it looks like the old man is getting on, which is ultimately why I went. I would not be surprised if this is the last time I get to see him.

I went with zero expectations for the music looking for a pleasant evening of Grateful Dead music in a beautiful venue a mile from where it all started and was not disappointed. I was pleasantly surprised with Graham's vocals he has come a long way in that department.

That will be a great show. In this context Stu +  Molitz  > Scofield and Tench.

That said, I think the first set on Saturday was excellent and went pretty deep.

Fun night on the farm. Here’s my quick review, in line with most. Music had some high points but band was a little disjointed at times having just been thrown together.  Phil’s playing was top level kind of extraordinary and nicely up in the mix.  JR may be fave dead  drummer out there. Kept the pace going and locks in with Phil. Could hardly hear BT on keys.  Venue and sound were excellent. Scofield tore into some hot leads in his style but my personal preference is for the Jerry tones of a Stu Allen...as will be the case as they head north.  I was amazed at the near sell out crowd considering how many cheap tickets were floating around. And while I don't love crowds in time of pandemic (10% masked approximately) it was a super festive crowd, lots of folks under 40 who probably never seen Jerry but gave it a sort of 1980's feel and there was  a definite Wookie factor in the mix.
Graham's vocals may be much better but still hard on my ear :(

So musically good performance, 1st half better than 2nd; as an event -  fun factor was very high. Nice to see so many TXR folks floating about.   Glad I WTTS.

Bummer to hear Tench was mostly a non-factor at the show. He was the standout MVP when he was in a Capitol birthday band a few years ago, including on an unbelievable China Doll that he led. Sounds like this band might have had too many mismatched parts to really gel for a lot of it, especially with Scofield, who's always cool but rarely takes the music "there." Likely the Stu bands will be a little smoother.

i'm going to washington.

> Graham's vocals may be much better but still hard on my ear

Grahame's vocals are serviceable most of the time anymore, but his vocals on EOTW were pretty harsh, I thought.

I had a blast at the show and loved seeing the Ampitheatre filled for a Phil show in 2022. We're lucky, damn lucky.

I kept wishing it were Molitz on keys instead of Tench.

>>> i'm going to washington. <<<

I wish, for our sakes, not yours, that this meant you were going to become an elected official going to Washington. Wouldn't wish the job on you, for sure.

Have a fun show.

Mr. Turtle goes to Washington

I approve this message®

This was my favorite Phil show.

What I saw on YT I liked. The music had a different flow, less hectic and mellow playing. I liked what I saw.

This show was a very organic delivery of songs that took some new routes to get to the finish line. The jams were great! The guitar of Scofield was fierce and wild. Grahame Lesh has grown into quite the bandleader and did a fine job all day long. Was wanting more of Benmont but being parked in front of Sco's Vox amp kept him low in the mix for me. It was an incredible setting and the vibe and friends were strong for everyone. I had a blast.

Mr. Tench sounds pretty good in this clip:

Our Hero..... The GDAMN MAN!!!!!!

Mike, I sent you a text when I got to the Frost but soon discovered that it was a land line number that I had.  Turns out you were pretty close to where I was.

Richard, sorry I did not make it over to you. Was difficult to move during music.

Fun show for sure. I really enjoy what Sco brings. Their were some awkward moments but overall sounded good to me.

Have you ever been to a show with Shakedown Street being the shortest song of the night?!

That was the fastest Shakedown I ever heard LOL!

They started Shakedown right about 9:55, so they got it done in just about the amount of time as the album version (4:59).

Sorry I missed you Mark, and Roarshock too. I retired the land line number you must have a few years ago when I went to cell only.

Don't tell me this town ain't got no heart

I can hear it beat out loud

But only until 10pm sharp

Rules are rules and it is good to see that they were respectfully adhered to as well. I would imagine that there are $$$ penalties for going past the curfew?

It's a good rule.  I had to leave a bit early. Dropped friend off near downtown Menlo Park and could clearly hear Shakedown from there.  Sound travels down there.

FB stream was fairly crappy audio (not to mention the needless "station IDs").

Tench is much more audible in the version* on the LMA.

*Busy night at work.  I jumped on the first one I saw.  There may be others.

Love Sco' bringin' The Weird.
