Phil @ Central Park Roll Call

Forums:

Thats right the show is today. Getting poked in the ribs by a good zoner. I am not excited about this band yet. But am on the edge. Could be a lot of fun. Who is going?

Hi Jelly.  Am not all that familiar with this venue. Good sound?

I'm going. The sound is good, but due to decibel restrictions, you need to "Zone In" for good acoustics. I don't think the limited bleacher seating is the place to  be. S ya gotta stand all night reasonably centered to the speakers. That aside, it's real nice place to see a show, under the stars and tress of Central Park. Food is decent and Phil always seems to play well there.

Not sure if going in or chairing it outside on lawn yet. You have to be very centered for good sound and it might not be loud as ez said.

Guys....I am searching for the sound.   Please confirm. Bleachers are the more expensive tickets with assigned seating and GA allows you to move around the orchestra pit and find good sound?

Can someone clue me in please?

Door open at 6?  Show starts at 8?

Warm up band?

It's just a big open area with plenty of space to the left and right of stage. Sound is really not good when standing to the left or right. You need to be centered and not that far back. The small bleacher area is in the back and sound is not good there.

There is a 10pm cerfew so show starts around 6:15. No opening act.

i've been once for phil/sco/medeski/russo/warren and i thought the sound was atrocious. i had a GA ticket, never sat on the bleachers.

strange venue for sure, cool concept though. i say get there slightly early and grab a spot towards the back of the GA area.

have fun, kenny.

Show starts at 6:00 PM,

Must end by 10:00 PM

Near the soundboard is always a good spot to start off at any unfamiliar venue - can adjust from there.

The review I read said it was pretty terrible.  They only stayed for the first set though.

I've never thought Phil and Melvins styles mesh very well.

great looking set list

That review came from Jughead who was sitting outside of the show, so YMMV on a review of that nature.

Firstly let me say it was a beautiful day. I came out with few expectations.  Phun with Phil was the theme.   I got to the venue at 5:30.The Phreaks were out in full force. I saw many  looking for tickets but none trading hands. Most were trying to get in for a discount or a miracle but if you wanted to get in i am sure you could.  I think It was not sold out.  Bought 3 ice cold PBR for 5 Bux.  Great deal anywhere but more so when just a few minutes later i would be paying about 10 bucks a pop.  I  Walked in at 5:50 and with GA ticket made my way to Phils side about 25 rows back with the PA pointing right at me. Band came out and within a minute of my arrival.  Good energy in the crowd. First jerry tunes played very well with both James and Graham Ripping solos. I take my yankee cap off to them as These boys have come a long way since first checking them out 3 or 4 years ago. Phil was on point like always. And he looked really great.  I think he is aging backwards. . Unfortunately The slow ballads were a bit way  two slow and i think they took away  momentum.  Oh well.  Good set. I likey.  During the set break I made my way to 2nd row directly in front of Phil EZPZ. I thought the set was real good.  I did no cartwheels or back flips of joy but thought it was played  with  great "enthusiasms".  The band really grabbed the moments of playing at Central park..  Should the band play in your neighborhood do give it a whirl.

Long live Phil & the Grateful Dead.

I have always been one to search for the sound. In this venue anywhere between The PA stacks and  perahps 20 feet further out had quite good sound. Once you breach the 20 feet right or left the sound degrades very quickly. I like this venue.  Can not comment on the sound of bleacher seating.

This.

But, { Playing in the Band > The Wheel > Dark Star > Morning Dew > Dark Star -
St. Stephen > (first verse of) Whole Lotta Love > St. Stephen >  LoveLight}  sounds pretty good.

At least on PAPER.
