Phil and Friends - Capital Theatre May 26th and 27th

Forums:

Just announced.  Thoughts on line up?

$20 for your extra

It won't be the Q...Warren is on the road that weekend...

Really wish they would announce the line ups like the did in the past.  Not that you can completely predict the show from a line up, but it sure can help.

Announce the lineups? No way. This is exciting. I pray for Stanley Jordan & Special guests only to be announced the day of the show.

U can eliminate potential friends..Molo w DNB and Barraco w DSO will b at darkstars jubliee ...Warren touring in the mid west..they r out..

Had this discussion with the wife. No tickets will be gotten until a line-up is announced. My wife went as far as to say that she would rather go the weekend before for DSO because they are cheaper and sound more like the Grateful Dead. I am not totally with her on that - but I understand where she is coming from. As long as the shows continue to sell out - then who cares what the line-up is in Shappy and Phil's minds, I guess. Oh well. This will all be gone soon - I know - but I could have skipped the last 4-5 years of The Grateful Dead and still be as happy, you know? So...

Meanwhile, JRAD tickets are tougher and tougher to get.

Personally - I would rather see JRAD than Phil with the line-up he just had at The Cap. Honestly - each time I tuned in to listen to those recent shows - I fell asleep. Literally.

But PLEASE - that's just my taste - not some freakin' BE ALL/END ALL statement about Phil Lesh or his legacy.

^^^^^

at this point in time Russo is still available...as is the rest of JRAD

Clutch with Lucero opening will be the show to see at The Cap during the month of May. 5/17 to be exact.

Enough with this hippie bullshit.

Agreed, Six.

JRAD is operating on a much more consistently higher level than Phil's outfits lately.

I'm pulling for him every time, but it's getting less and less inspired to these ears.

>>Enough with this hippie bullshit.

We have tickets to see Tool the weekend after Memorial Day!

>>I'm pulling for him every time, but it's getting less and less inspired to these ears.

Look - if anyone here doubts that I love Phil Lesh and his music - they are dead wrong. (pun fully intended)

This does not mean I can or want to continue to spend blind money on him willy nilly though.

Maybe wilco has a message board that is more your speed 6.

Still down with hippie bullshit.

I heard from fairly reliable sources that the Phil shows will be acoustic.  Phil on stand up base with Stanley Jordan on lead Didjeridu & JK on  Kazoo. I would not worry about falling asleep this go around.

The one time I saw Phil play a stand up bass it was obvious why he doesn't do it more often, so my bet is that this will not be happening.

I'm not a fan of Wilco, JR. I like Son Volt.

The Revolution is playing there in May....not hippie music..

not even unpacked from 77

as we are moving out of our house for 3-4 months

for it's first makeover since the 40's

can't do this run

Jerry Week out west maybe

quinn strictly mobile for a bit...

thanks and stay in touch

Clutch are opening for Primus this summer, I'll catch them in Lancaster

Phil on Delfest weekend, so I am out crying guess I'll have to wait for LOCKN to get my Phil

>>>>>Maybe wilco has a message board that is more your speed 6.

Here is the Wilco message board.....

http://forums.viachicago.org/

personally I'm a fan of both Wilco and Son Volt

Voodoo!

went out to breakfast in Sebastopol, small town I live in..

as I was crossing the main street

very large, dark brown tour bus with all the windows blacked out

pulls up to the light

I thought, what the hell is that, looked to see the driver...

Les Claypool!

guess it was his and he was driving it home... he lives in the rural part of Sebastopol

made me lol

Phil is still playing!!

((((Grateful)))

Ugh

May 26th is the release date of the GD documentary on Amazon.  Not sure that would mean anything in terms of lineup

Think CRB has a fair shot of being friends this run.

vegas

I like shoes with dance room.

Folks who 4 whatever reason don't want 2 go should definitely not go.

smiley

no molo = already off to a bad start.

Do you like the Grateful Dead at all JR?

Deadco summer tour starts May 27 in Vegas, so I doubt Bobby (or the drummers!) would be in the lineup.

>>I like shoes with dance room.

Too many shoes with dance room and Shappy is unhappy.

Cool story Ro,

so Les is not only on the bus he's driving it!

>> Too many shoes with dance room and Shappy is unhappy.

LOL

<<<guess I'll have to wait for LOCKN to get my Phil

I dont even hold my breath for that any more.

I would have thought, given his past performances at Lockn, that this year he'd get an 11am Sunday slot, thanked for his service and shown the door.

Instead, they seem to be doubling down on Phil.

It's beyond me why he can't ...or wont show up for this festival.

It was a stark difference last year listening to Phil plod through Terrapin singing "crickets just seem vain at last" and then going to JRAD and see a truly swinging version of the same song.

Jiminy was a bit of a fop.

Whoa. The Philton is sold out. How dare they? ;)

Correction: My first search was for arrival on Thursday and departure on Monday..(I always book buffer days)... but now rooms are showing for arrival on May 26 and departure on May 28.

Booking just in case I can swing it.

^^^^

greenwich town party is that weekend as well...

Hmmm, Bruce Hornsby will be in the area for shows at City Winery that begin on May 29...

>> Think CRB has a fair shot of being friends this run.

This seems right to me. The lineups for the last two runs around Memorial Day have been weird also. Last year it was Warren Krasno Medeski and Tony Baloney, and then Melvin replacing Medeski the next night. Wouldn't be surprised to see something similar here. Generally something more offbeat from a traditional PLF lineup seems likely. Would be great if Russo could get back in the mix, but I'm not counting on it. I also wouldn't mind seeing Ezra Lipp come out East. And of course we all pray for Sless. Who knows.

Yes to Sless, but he's w/ DNB in Ohio for Friday only.

I was at the May run last year, and agree, it was strange... but still had loads of fun.

Sless will be with Molo at the darkstar jubilee..so he is out..process of elimination is starting to add up..

That Friday show left a bad taste in my Gut, if they could play such an un-psychedelic show with an actual psychedelic lineup, I am simply not gonna spend $113.50 and have it turn out to be B-lister unpsychedelic wankers like Gackie Greene & whomever the latest Dishwasher drummer is.  CRB guys would be slightly better but still not really psychedelic.  May just do the couch thing this round.  Of course it was St Patty's day so they kinda got a pass but still . . .

>>>>Clutch with Lucero opening will be the show to see at The Cap during the month of May. 5/17 to be exact.

I bought tix to this when I was @ the Cap last week, saved the service charges.  In fact, I bought tix for 3 shows for the same price I paid to see 1 Phil show (Hooteroll, Clutch, & Herring/McLaughlin).

That's more cash in my pocket, then.

Defiantly a show for folks traveling from out of town,

most locals go away for that weekend,

it's a ghost town round here.

I'm Gonna have to add this run to the few Phil cap shows missed.

Hope it's a decent line up for ya'll... Who knows at this point.....

Lot of peeps bitching why they won't go to shows anymore..I'm still raging 113 dollars and all...practice u all talking bout practice..

Raging

I got Brombergs Big Noise Festi and Mule/CRB nite before that :) I am skipping this one too, with my health issues I have to choose carefully, plus I am not a fan of traveling that weekend.

Have fun and i will be on Nugs couch tour.....:)

Ya'll have fun back east now, ya' hear?

>>>CRB guys would be slightly better

depends on who you ask, i'll take Stanley, Joan and JK over CRB.. Regardless of lineup saturday will probably sell out and friday possibly.

If we do anything that weekend it will be Delfest.

<<<<>>>>>Lot of peeps bitching why they won't go to shows anymore..I'm still raging 113 dollars and all...practice u all talking bout practice..

practice is something all these phil bands at the cap desperately need....although maybe not CR, that dude is just awful w/ phil, no matter how much practice he puts in. lol.

Jelly, glad your able  to get your "Phil"  with this band.  Although i thought the band had some good momentum at times , SJ, thinking he was stepping up actually brought them way down.  Again and again. He bores me to tears and In my book he does no justice to the catalog of the GD and his contributions to Phil and Jk are soft . I hope to never, ever see SJ perform with Phil again. Stick a fork in it.  He's well done!

^^^^^

it is what it is these days..I go for Phil ..everybody else is filler..except when Molo and Sless are in the house...which is not gonna happen in May..we shall see...

Fuck crb. Get the Coney island.band back together, Jackie would definitely be a plus in whatever lineup .Larry and Teresa + Jackie.

Phil,  Molo and Sless would make a great power trio!

I would love to see that.

The pre-sale code is: WEAREGRATEFUL

I just got hold of it, and I was just able to pick up a ticket for both nights!  Pre-sale goes until 10pm tonite.

I'm guessing that folks are holding off b/c Phil is slow to announce the line-up. It seems kind of crazy that tix have been on sale all afternoon (since noon--almost 7 hours) and they haven't sold out yet.

..everybody else is filler<<

And CRB is like a dookie in a brownie.

Love the CRB and Chris with Phil in general. The recent show at TXR with Phil, CR, Sless et al was killer. I dig Stanley Jordan to, he was excellent that last show of the recent Cap run.

CRB is doing the weekend before @ Brombergs Big Noise and nite before w/ Mule at Tower Philly ! That will fill me up and hold me for a while with CRB, I like them for sure :) I'm telling you guys The Big Noise is gonna be real good, Can't wait to see Anders again !!

Was just looking at the tickets on CAP website... which tickets go for $59.50? They list this price as an option, but none are showing up when you pull tickets.

I think the $59.50 tixx are a tiny portion of the ADA allotment.

To buy those, you or one of your party must meet ADA eligibility.  But you could have one disabled person with more than one accompanying person, maybe three ?.

Ok, thanks Disco Stu. Are you going to this run?

no doubt Big Noise is going to be great, perfect lineup for my taste and very reasonably priced

59.50 are balcony sides

<<<To buy those, you or one of your party must meet ADA eligibility.  But you could have one disabled person with more than one accompanying person, maybe three ?.

In spirit, you should be right, but I believe technically, that they can't ask you what your disability is according to the law.  I often travel to shows with someone in a chair and we are running into more and more opportunists grabbing the ever diminishing concert space because they can.

thanks uptown! are you going to May run?

Here's my pick for the guitar section: Buddy Cage, David Nelson, & Michael Falzarano. I am not joking, this is my pick.

I know it's a longshot, and assumes Nelson will be back in the saddle after his medical issues, of course. Cage was sick too, but he's better and has already been playing out.  An excellent way for Phil to show support.

My basis for this claim is : Dead Sage cancelling a show at Mexicali Live that was scheduled for 5/26.

Michael Falzarano. I am not joking, this is my pick.<<

If you were joking, it wouldn't be funny.  As it is, that's just sad.

LLOLLO,

I doubt I'll be attending these shows. But, there is always a possibility.

Regarding the ADA seats, a buddy got those for a Pearl Jam show at either MSG or a Phila. venue, I forget. He was going through chemo & radiation at the time,  called the box office and explained all that. They were very helpful and even had an ADA rep call him at on-sale time to make sure he got the appropriate tickets.

Now he's on the mend and feels like he shouldn't avail himself of ADA tixx, even though he said "most of the people in that section had no apparent disability".
