He's playing this Saturday as the closing act after Lindsay Lou (with whom he sat in or collaborated earlier this summer in Dillon):

With the addition of the Infamous Stringdusters dusters, it appears this year's lineup is a bit of a departure from years past in so far as having two relatively "big" headliners.  I think they've intentionally tried to keep the lineup low key in terms of both sticking with folk and not to have too big a names have to support with higher ticket prices and to keep the crowd size down.  The venue is at a small / medium softball diamond with the stage at home plate pointing outward.  There are sidewalks in left and right field, so it's a great venue to be able to hang outside.

Might try to make it ... it's always nice to get a 15-20 degree bump in weather at this time of the year!

That looks like a nice little lineup in a great spot.

Yeah, the lineup is incredibly good for my taste, and Moab is great this time of year.  I have an appointment with a spinal surgeon in the morning in GJ on Monday ... so will likely be camping at least an hour closer than if I had left from home.

However, I JUST learned about two big / popular dispersed camping areas immediately north of Arches that have been transformed into a State Park with a $20 fee!   I'm not sure exactly how to process this just yet, other than being somewhat bummed for my own immediate personal interest.  The first area north of Arches entrance, Willow Springs, can often be a bit of a "scene" with tons of people, but I really liked the area a few miles north of Willow Springs called Dalton Wells.  There are several cool isolated nooks to camp that I liked taking short hikes at dusk and dawn.  The big downside was there was a lot of OHV use ... so maybe it's best if the area was getting abused.  Currently in the middle of Desert Solitaire and believe this is likely close to the original entrance of what was then Arches National Monument.

I went back into my photos to see when I saw Rowns there last, and it was back in 2009!  Time flies.  Here's a few ... interesting to see how sparse the food vendors in the back were compared to last year

These were my neighbors from a half dozen nooks over this past spring.  Wonder if this will be "allowed" in a State Park?

Those gas cans look dangerous, could start a fire.

You hate to see it but frankly, we didn't start the fire.

Molly Tuttle is quite the picker, too. Seeing the Dusters on Wednesday here in SLC.

Saw the Milk Carton Kids on Friday. GREAT show!

Looks like they may be sloppy enough in mixing containers for gas, water, and anti-freeze. .....freedom!

Here's some shots:   one zoomed through the fence hole in left field and a couple others of Rowns walking and talking to some folks in the street over the left field fence on Saturday after his set.  The following day I say him on in the same location and even was startled because he came out from behind some cars and our paths crossed very closely.  I let him go his way, but some other guy from about 50 yards away immediately yells out "Peter Rowan!  Peter Rowan!" (getting him to stop).

His set was a mixed bag.  I'm normally a fan of whatever he brings to the stage, but the Mexican motif ran through 3/4 of the set and while it had it's moments, on balance it just wasn't my cup of tea.  Lindsay Lou sat in for a bit, which really elevated things too.

Yes Slick, Molly Tuttle is quite the picker!  I really enjoyed her set.  ISD was also great.  I've been to at least 5 or 6 of these over the past 13 years and this was probably the best lineup I've seen overall.  It was also sold out and a difficult ticket, but did care in the least bit to hang outside and listen with quite a few people who had the same thing in mind.  I've never seen more than 2-4 locals from Telluride at the fest, but it this time was upwards 20.

Great review from outside the venue, FOM.

Thanks ned.

Another interesting aspect of the "outside the venue" scene was how the streets on the other side of the left and right field fences were stacked with conversion vans.  I arrived just as the festival was getting going on Saturday just after 11am and couldn't get a space on these preferred streets, but was able to park a block away which was still very convenient.  I went to Arches super early Sunday morning (due to being up early b/c of time change) and was able to get to the venue by 9:30am ... yet the right field street was packed with vans and I was barely able to get the last spot at the end of the left field street.   Having a van myself, it was super cool to be able to pull up so close to a venue and be able to make food, chill out, etc.

This is likely my last show for the foreseeable future ... since haven't been attending indoor shows since the Before Times.

Looks like SCI @ Gem and Jam in Tucson might be the next chance.
