People in CALIFORNIA FIRE areas, are you safe?

Forums:

As the fires continue, it would sure be great if Zoners would check in so we knew that our peeps are safe. Are your house and animals okay? Please post. Thanks. Love.

I am safe in Orange County. The Canyon 2 fire is at 60% containment today and I do not think structures are threatened at this point.

Best wishes to my friends to the north still at risk heart

I texted w/ Roshambo a little while ago, she said power is back on at her place and she's got cell connection. Her mom is okay, too!

So sad about people losing their homes.

He's not a Zoner, but he's like a brother to me (my best childhood friend Lawrence, who lives in Kenwood).

Just received this text from him:

"(Friends) just called (his wife) FROM OUR HOUSE!  It survived.  The fire is out and the whole dirt lot across the street is burnt.  So we had about 20 feet to spare.  The width of the road.  We are heading back north now - will stay at (a friend's house) til...Sunday I think.  So relieved."

I am so grateful that their house has been spared (so far).

this is some scary shit:

Glad for your friends JohnnyD.

That photo is surreal.

Sulphur fire is across the lake from me and I think 45% contained.

The smoke is nothing compared to what so many others are dealing with.

Now 29 dead 25,000 evacuated. 450 missing.

Looks like Guy Fieri set up a hot food kitchen and is serving workers in Santa Rosa. I guess he is from there.

Anyone hear from Canyon?

I had a feeling there might be a thread like this.

This is how we spent last Sunday: Good times. smiley

Hope all of the Northern Cali Zoners are safe. Did Willows check in?

Canyon is safe. He's not in Santa Rosa. I'm safe, at least for now, and I am in Santa Rosa. That said it still sucks balls. People walking around in masks crying, elderly and disabled people dominating the death toll, the air is smells like really smoky febreeze (fire retardent? IDK). That said wonderful community outpouring of support everywhere you look.

Man, this absolutely breaks my heart for all the good folks in CA.

Glad to see people checking in safe here. Love to y'all.

Super glad to hear you are ok Willows. Our fire was pretty intense, but over fairly quickly. It's just an air quality thing now: but it smells like a campfire.

Thanks McDoobie! I'm surrounded by evacuated ares still burning on three sides, all about a mile away in each direction but south. Feeling incredibly exhausted and fortunate, but not at ease. If the wind picks up tonight I could be evacuated still. I hope not!

McDoobs that's scary AF! Blue Lake is so small and the buildings so old. Glad you're ok, fire sucks when it's bigger than you.

Safari West evacuation last Sunday (this is the park entrance; the tent area was pitch dark except for the fire)

sw1.jpg

It was really LOUD. The cracking of the trees was wild and the sound that fire suppressant stuff makes when it hits the ground is really weird. SO glad it didn't jump the 299. We had the car packed and were ready to go. Pretty intense experience. I wondered about the Safari: that is insane. surprise

we are about 13 miles from the Tubbs fire, safe and sound, no issues besides smoke here...

We're good here in Sebastopol, probably 6-8 miles away from fire.  It was pretty smokey for a couple of days, but better now.  Still unhealthy, but better.  That said, it's surreal and scary and sad.  Tonight we have friends staying with us who were evacuated from their house in Santa Rosa.  Fingers crossed...

I wish all those affected by the challenges now and the weeks ahead, all the strength and caring vibes that I possess.

Please continue take care of yourselves and others, as I know you will.

Wow

Good luck California brother and sisters.

The link to those pictures are very sobering.

Stay safe.

All good in Forestville about 7 miles away the Tubbs fire.  At the winery we are keeping an eye on the Geyserville (Pocket fire) but they got air support yesterday, so things are looking better.  We have signs up here pointing to the fire hydrant.  Stressful and sad times, but helping where we can.

These guys!  Thank you!

I know he's not around the blackscreen anymore, but has anyone heard from Wino?

some good info from a friend who has "fitted" thousands of people at her workplace

How to Wear the N95 Mask
Always read and follow the manufacturer's directions when using an N95 mask. It must cover both the nose and mouth to keep you from breathing in mold and dust. If it does not have a snug fit, it will not work properly. Correct fit of the mask requires contact with smooth skin. It will not work properly for people with beards or facial hair. Even one-day beard growth has been shown to let air leak in. Always use both straps on the mask to hold it in place to keep air from leaking around it.
When first putting on your mask you need to use both straps the bottom one should be around your neck in the top one should be on The top your head. You then take both your forefingers and form the metal strip around your nose. This must be done each time you put the mask on.
How to Make Sure the Mask Fits
Do a user seal check, including both positive and negative pressure checks, to verify that you have correctly put on the mask and adjusted it to fit properly.
Negative pressure check
Place both hands completely over the mask and inhale sharply. Be careful not to disturb the position of the mask. The mask should pull into your face. If air leaks around your face or eyes, adjust the nosepiece and straps and repeat the positive pressure check.
Positive pressure check
Put your hands over the mask and breathe out sharply. If your mask has an exhalation valve (like the one pictured above) be sure to cover the exhalation valve when you exhale. No air should leak out of the mask if it fits properly. If air leaks out, re-adjust the nosepiece and straps and repeat the negative pressure check.

Safe here in Monte Rio .That was some SCARY SHIT !!I was worried it would burn all the way to the Coast !

Updated map: https://firemap.sdsc.edu/

My friend was evacuated from Willits. He's been waiting since Tuesday. His house looks to be right on the edge of the fire. I feel bad I can't do much to help.

Thanks for checking in, folks. It's not over yet.

And yes, Bay Area air is thick and dark and polluted. Stay safe out there.

Much love.

Was just dropping stuff off at the SRVets hall and spotted another old zoner working there heart

Nice to see we're still everywhere when it counts!

Iv been driving all over Santa Rosa this morning. I would say 80% of people are not wearing masks outside. Including ALL of the police/security working the evac zones..

big love to you all.  be well, be safe.

Safe in Petaluma. Smokey air but no threatening fire or evacs. Close to Nuns fire, but Sonoma Mountain is in between, and Firefighters are doing a great job preventing it from spreading to the west side of the ridge.

I don't have pictures, but a buddy showed me pics of the sheriffs cars covered in red retardant laugh  from putting out the Blue Lake fire.  I'm glad they managed to get that one out quickly cause it was a windy day and could have been like some of those Santa Rosa pics.

PG&E needs to pay up.  A company with that kind of money should have maintained their lines better.  Yes there were strong winds with some really high gusts, but they should be building above and beyond the highest winds possible.  PG&E was at found at fault before by diverting $77,000,000 from funds used to prevent wildfires.

zeke ~ i’ve also been hoping the best for {{{{{wino}}}}}

heartbreaking and scary.

lots of love and safety for those in the midst of the fires.

Very scary.  Praying it stops.

Many cash crops - and actual cash in Mendo went up in smoke. Some growers lost their live savings. And no insurance for the lost crop and product in drying stage, according to NPR anyway.

Still sorting out which clients and friends have homes undamaged

one client confirmed his house burned to the ground...hard to imagine losing everything~

stay strong and healthy all!

we will survive and recover

happy when I hear someone recovered their pets

many pets found and unclaimed....

Anybody know if the roads are open yet?  Specifically Mark West Springs to Petrified Forrest? And Petrified Forrest to 128?
