Very good question.  My short answer is self-defense by any means necessary.

All of my political life I have moved along a continuum from MLK to Malcolm X.  The last few years closer to the Malik el Shabazz end.

I grew up around firearms, I am comfortable handling them, and I hate them.  As Ronnie Van Sant sang, "ain't good for nothing but put a man six feet in a hole".

I own a revolver and a tactical shotgun.  I have a carry permit but do not carry*.  I do not want to shoot anyone.

To ignore the above ground and under ground actions and words at this particular point in time is at best naive.

The Fake Supreme Court will rule later this year as to whether or not state legislatures will control federal elections, an old post-Reconstruction Jim Crow concept. If they allow it, civil war is inevitable.  Unless Democrats and friends of democracy get real.

So, I say, as unappealing  as it may be, arm yourself.

*In the state in which I live on January 1st any person over the age of 18 can carry a concealed firearm, no permit, no nothing!   A thousand  Kyle Rittenhouse wannabes walking.  My state senator, the Honorable Vivian Figures (D) stood up in the AL Senate during the debate, pointed her finger at the repugs and said, " When the bodies start piling up it is on YOU!"

It's long past time that every member of Congress is afforded a security detail as standard operating procedure.

I suspect there have been / are many members of Congress who are retiring in large part due to fear for their safety and that of their families.  Imagine the number of death threats even the most non-controversial members get;  let alone those who get singled out by Trump or right-wingers.  

Imagine what would happen if there were to be an "Afternoon of the Long Drones" ... or some other type of purge.   If a sufficient number are taken out, are the existing Constitutional mechanisms to re-seat new reps sufficient to do so in a timely fashion to thwart efforts to "do no good" by remaining GOP?

Wild speculation aside, I can't help but to believe the threat of violence is deterring far too many qualified /  semi-scrupulous individuals from running for office; mostly leaving it to thugs and those willing to take the risk in order to game the system for their own self interests.

Pete Seeger might have a problem with this.

They wanted to hang Pence on J6.  The Republican Secretary of State of GA, who voted for Trump, has security because of death threats to him and his family because he wouldn't "find" Trump 11,000 votes to steal GA .

There has been violence and threats against some right wing figures but nothing, nothing like the organized level of noise across the internet and the politioshere that is directed by Trump and his operatives.

They are even on tour.  Eric Trump appeared at a recent stop.

Over the decades the left has destroyed a lot of property (spiking trees, burning logging equipment, other environmentalist crimes mostly).  There have been a few attacks too (capitol softball game shooting, ex).  The BLM movement has been disruptful, but really not as much violence as gets portrayed by the media.  

But the right have murdered thousands.   Abortion Drs / workers,  so many bombings it's hard to count (Olympics / OKC / etc),  and of course, their bread and butter...   murdering blacks / jews / gays / Kennedy's, etc.

There's really no comparison...

Good work by the 911 system & police here, but there's also an interesting side story from this, that may or not over time be brought up; apparently the responding officers arrived at the scene about two minutes after receiving the 911 dispatcher's call.

Most neighborhoods would argue that they don't get close to that level of quick response to similar distress calls.

I believe you're 100% correct on this front and certainly not looking to minimize any aspect of what you've raised; however, in the context of what's been happening in recent times, I'm not sure if it helps matters to bring up the full scope of the right's transgressions if the key "ball" we are to keep our eyes on is the specific targeting of the reigns of power?

Put another way:  they seem to always bring up BLM violence as false equivalence to a coup attempt.   In light of this context, isn't raising abortion and other racist / caste related violence (as bad as it is) taking the focus away from the keystone issue of how political power is democratically derived (or not) in a Republic?

....Dinesh D’Souza, whose recent film “2000 Mules” burnished his right-wing bona fides by pushing Trump’s debunked claims of widespread voter fraud, aired falsehoods and innuendo in a viral Twitter thread suggesting the attack on Paul Pelosi was a form of intentional misrepresentation sometimes referred to as a “false flag.”
