George Clinton and P-Funk finished a 2-night run at Seattle's Neptune Theater with an impressive 2 1/2 hour show last night.  It was my first time seeing them, and an enjoyable experience.  For a 76 year old, George has a lot of energy, and the huge ensemble (I counted something like 22 members) helped deliver the Funk.  It was a nice mix of old and young multi-racial concert goers, one of the most diverse shows I've seen.

I had nice encounters with some of the entourage before the show, including the Merch vendor (who bought a bunch of Italian soundtrack cds) and George's wife (who bought a bunch of 8-Tracks, including a copy of Motor Booty Affair she seemed very stoked about).  After a busy Saturday in the store, it was nice to get some drinks and sit back in a third row balcony seat to enjoy the show.

Lots of the show were newer tunes, many of them with a Hip-Hop influence.  I didn't recognize them but they were well-delivered and the antics of the performers kept me engaged.  Many old staples were played as well, Flashlight, P-Funk (Wants To Get Funked Up), Atomic Dog, Give Up The Funk (Tear The Roof Off The Sucker), Up For The Down Stroke, and a sweet ten minute version of Maggot Brain featuring Blackbyrd McKnight on lead guitar.  They even threw in a little bit of Frank Zappa's Zomby Woof.  My friend the bar manager told me there were only 4 repeats from the night before.

It was a good show, and I'm glad to have finally seen them.

I will get funked-up @ the Mystic.  I have seen him many, many times & I'm hoping to be old/young & multiracial all @ once. Everybody get funky.

Blackbyrd also plays with The Stones' Darryl Jones (bass) in an electric Miles Davis tribute band. That sounds cool.

Cool. I want to see a P-Funk show too.

Sounds like a good show with the "big" band.   I had tix for Portland last night, but didn't see they had an opening act when I got the tickets.  From experience, I know they often go on late and play to curfew and I had an early morning court appearance, so ended up giving them away to a friend.  Glad you had a good time.   Seen them a bunch of times and yeah, the crowd is usually a good mix of folks, from young white dready girls to older black dudes in their leather caps.  Much more diverse than the Lilly White crowds you see at most PDX shows.

I seen them a few times myself.

Last night I got loaded, oh wait a minute that was Los Lobos.

Last night I saw P-Funk @ the Mystic & I got loaded.

Good music.

Jumping funk.

& purdy women.

I'm going to the show today in Long Beach.

Mr. Racket. That will be a great fest with a great lineup.

Glad to hear it.  Last time I saw them was a very stripped down group that did not have the energy of years past.  Glad to learn that wasn't some new normal.

We got FUNKED Up Last Night !! Photos on my F B Page.

Seen the P-Funk w/ Zoner star Mr. Negan at "Trenton War Memorial"  theatre a few years back.  He very graciously put me on the guest list.  Another time in Kansas City, late 90's.  It wasn't the same without the Shakers in the Mix.  But that one was outdoors.

I have read here that Mr. Negan has gone into semi-retirement with P-Funk ensemble,  but  hope that they get together again soon.
