Outlaw Country-Still Kickin'

Forums:

The group of Country artists who refused to conform to the Countrypolitan Pop sounds coming out of Nashville.  This well-written piece from Pitchfork, including an interview with Steve Earle, will get you up to speed with this still vital movement:

Hell yeah.

Any list that includes Doug Sahm, the Flatlanders, and Terry Allen should be given a real critical look.

thanks. i'd love to have those on vinyl.

I recently picked up tickets for Tanya Tucker at the Crystal Ballroom in June.

Spotify has an "Outlaw Country" station that plays a lot of artists from the list above.  Problem is that they only have a couple hundred songs in rotation and they will start to repeat if you listen to it long enough.

Tanya Tucker was opening for Brandi Carlile on her last tour. Saw part of her show at Hardly Strictly, but it's not on the archive.

Thanks for posting this Herbal Dave. I skimmed through and will go back for a deeper read. Looks interesting.

The article has made me give Miranda Lambert a reconsideration.  Had figured she was just another innocuous Nashville cream puff. It's good to see Margo Price getting her props, she's bonafide.

Steve Earle's interview in the article makes me hope for a documentary about The Armadillo World Headquarters.  I've heard some good recordings from there.  Sounds like it was a wild scene.
