Meh. Noisy, cluttered sound.

Too much, and not enough.

I didn't  like it then, I don't like it now.

Carry on.

Only attended  a couple of those shows, but I liked what I heard. Esp. the one w/ Billy. Def. a Bobster scene, but much better than the Leshless 2000 tour.

A few too many folks on the stage but it was the first time I heard Phil since '95 and that alone made it worthwhile.

The Dark Star > Estimated Prophet > Drums > Only The Strange Remain > Dark Star

at Nissan on 6/27 was fantastic and convinced me that it could still happen.

There is that. I do remember being reminded at the two Shoreline shows I was at of how unique & epic his playing is, even on the ditties, and that he is pure genius.

My main memory of that weekend is not being able to find the groove until Billy K. was sitting in during the second show. I have a clear recollection of having my back turned during The Other One and not really paying attention to the music while being involved in something, when suddenly my ear was turned away from what I was doing, hearing "that thing", that bouncy "around the beat" flow that is so unique to the GD.

I clearly remember turning and saying to the person next to me, "That's it! There it is! The Sound!"

If I'm not mistaken that day was the first time all four had played on stage together since '95. I also remember a moment when Bob turned and looked at Billy and I swear Bob did a slight double-take and smiled, as if to say, "Hey, there's my old partner". Maybe I imagined that, but it was a nice moment either way.

There were a lot of good players in that band and I'm sure there was lots of good music played, I guess I just wasn't ready to hear it yet.

22 years later I'm much more forgiving, but at that point I couldn't get past Jerry not being up there.

Phil

I'll never forget hearing that first note from Phil and thinking "That's what I've been missing."  It just wrapped around my body and made me feel wonderful.

Birth of the PHIL/MOLO nexusyes

Did the whole tour. It was great times. Music was mostly a blast each night. The secret spaces that Hornsby, Lesh, and Kimock discovered inbetween the folds of the songs was where all the goodness was.

I enjoyed listening to a 50 minute rehearsal tape of them working out the changes to jam in Estimated.  Who ever knew music like this was so complicated!

I saw a bunch of those shows.. but why wasn't Billy in the band?
