Hey kids, I'm less that 4 weeks out from a trip up I-5 to Olympic Park backpacking>>>Seattle>>>southbound on OR coast. The road north on I-5 we'll be mostly hustling, the road south along the coast more idling. We're always up for new flavors of beers and stops at good breweries. Looks like there is a brewery about every 10 miles on the OR coast. As we all know, the glut of beweries means that some are waaaay better than others. The border wall between California and Oregon beers is strong, so I'm not up on what extra special beers or breweries I should be checking out. Open to different styles, IPA, saison, porters and stouts, wheats. Any suggestions for filling the cooler or killing an hour or two along the coast or in Eugene?
Mucho thanks, can't wait!

The Oregon Coast has
The Oregon Coast has surprisingly few breweries compared to Portland and the Willamette Valley, but it is getting better.
In Astoria, there is Ft. George, Buoy, and Wet Dog. Wet Dog is down by the docks and is my favorite of the bunch.
Heading south on 101, the next stop is Seaside Brewing in Seaside. Their barleywine is really good.
Next up is the storied Bill's Tavern and Brewhouse in Cannon Beach. Ask the waiter about the legend of the Bandage Man.
The stretch between Cannon Beach through Tillamook County is a brewery dead zone, but maybe something has popped up recently.
Between Tillamook and Lincoln City, is the best Oregon Coast brewery IMHO - Pelican Bay Brewing, in Pacific City. The brewpub is literally right on the beach near Haystack Rock (there are two) and a short walk to scenic Cape Kiwanda. It can be crowded, but nothing like sipping a pint and taking in the scenery after hiking all around Cape Kiwanda.
After that, there is the Rusty Tractor in Lincoln City. Unassuming place on the south side of town with good beers.
Past that, you hit Depoe Bay which has a brand new brewpub! I found it when I was there two weekends ago. Decent beer and steered me clear of the Sea Hag tavern, which I otherwise usually hit every time I am in town.
Next up is Newport, home of Rogue Brewing. They have a taphouse on the historic (aka touristy) bayfront and a bar, restaurant, and distillery across the bay at their main facility.
Although I have traveled up and down the rest of 101 to the California border many times, the central to north coast is my playground and don't know much of the breweries south of Newport.

We have a number of breweries
We have a number of breweries in Eugene, and some other places that offer local brews and food. I can't drink beer, but hear that there are very good beers brewed here. Ninkasi? Oakshire? Hop Valley was locally owned til recently. Agrarian Ales has an interesting setup. Falling Sky. There are probably others that I'm forgetting.
Ninkasi and Oakshire have interesting/excellent food trucks.
As you might imagine, I'd love to see you when you're around.

Alias,
Alias,
As Judit mentioned above, Agrarian Ales should be on your radar. Stopped through there last month and it was exceptional. Super kind place and music on the weekends. Beer is very good and great farm to table food. It's also a beautiful place to hang out.

Oakshire is one of my Oregon
Oakshire is one of my Oregon favs in Eugene: http://www.oakbrew.com/
Their Amber is my go-to beer if I can find it on tap.
2 under the radar but amazing beermakers elsewhere in Oregon:
Captured by Porches > Unfortunately this brewery is in Gresham -- no reason to go there unless you're heading east up the Columbia River Gorge. However, you can pick some up at any of these places: http://www.capturedbyporches.com/where.html
Logsdon Farmhouse Ales: In Hood River, Oregon -- about 45 minutes east of Gresham, but very touristy because it's a cool town just naturally! http://www.farmhousebeer.com/

In Newport, check out Yaquina
In Newport, check out Yaquina Lighthouse and surrounding Natural Area. Nye Beach and Old Town/Bay Front for touristy stuff. Mo's Chowder is a local tradition. Devil's Punchbowl, Agate Beach, and South Beach for, well, beaches. Aquarium is cool; better if you are accompanied by young humans. Lots of dispensaries, but not usually great stuff.
We are 45 min. E. of Newport and 5 min. from Hwy. 20. Dunno if we will be here when you are, but feel free to E-mail (hmm, guess it's no longer in my profile but Judit haz). Or we could come down to Eugene for a Zoner meet-up?

Feel free to suggest OR beers
Feel free to suggest OR beers that we should try even if we won't be near the brewery. Honestly, this is mostly a hike/beach/camp vacation, so we won't be doing a ton of breweries, just looking for heads up for the ones we do happen to pass so we can choose wisely (thanks for the rundown Ken). We'll be drinking a lot more beer out of our cooler and its always fun to load up with bottled souvenirs. Logsdan I am familiar with and like. never heard of Captured By Porches, will def check it out.
Judit, we are hoping to hit Eugene on the way to the Olympics, assuming we get an early start. As it gets closer I'll touch base. Would love to see you and any other OR zoners. It's over Labor Day weekend, so I assume most will be busy. Thanks for the info Surf, I'll check those places and may have questions for you.
