Kinda strange no thread on the eve of the fair, especially cause of  the Phil appearance. I'm probably gonna go to see Phil, even though the Family Band reminds of a band you would see at a bar at the coast and think " they are ok, but the bass player is great".

People are stoked, but in a mellow way.

Thought about starting a thread, but I’ve been busy organizing gear and running errands!

Safe travels, everyone.

Go to Miss Piggy’s Lot at sunset. There’ll be something special going on there (while Phil is playing the after-hours shoe on the inside) and word is that the parking lotswill not be  swept at 7, as is usual.

What's all this then?

Hey Surfdead!  Phil is playing main stage, as per schedule, then playing after-hours for anyone camping on the inside.

We have a place to hang, "unswept", but when is the :"secret" Phil show supposed to be? Early evening or late night? Or in between?

I am excited for the fair tomorrow, and psyched that my 12 Year Old will get to see Phil play at the fair tomorrow

Phil may hang for awhile, but it would be a new thing if there was a main stage performer after hours on a Friday night.

Working on my moss/deer antler costume. Fairy wings are due from amazon any minute.

Several years ago, I was being swept out of the fair and had to stand aside, make room, for a cart coming  through. It was pushed by Mr. Kesey. In this cart was a tank of nitrous, a pony keg, fireworks, and a sleeping bag.

Did sound at the Country fair for years, was pretty common for the friday night act to stick around for an in house set after the tourists leave.  One fave moment was Barry Sless / Kimoch trading some pretty cool middle easternish licks while doing soundcheck before the 2nd show 25 or so years ago (haven't been for 20 years).  Saturday has the midnight show, roughly 5+ hours of 5 minute vaudeville acts

I saw some short clips of Phil's night time show on Facebook, sounded great!

 Thanks, Noodler.

Glad you thought the audio was good,Judit.

Our crew was disappointed w/ the audio mix.... we were standing to the side of soundboard, along the trail edge.

Noticed that the speakers that used to hang on the trees were not there... maybe that’s why?

That sounded good in a little snippets on FacebookIt wasn’t the audio quality that sounded good, especially since it was an inexperienced person posting from her phone, it was the music they were playing and how they were playing it. It sounded good in little snippets on Facebook.

I hope you guys had a good time. I also saw very crowded pictures of the paths and of Main Stage meadow - I might be sorry I missed the music but I am not sorry I missed the day out there

Yes, the good fair spirit made our day..... and spent time at other stages too.

Most crowded Friday ever!

We didn’t even stay for the GBB show... it was tiring to move through all those people.

Ran into Surfdead, though!

At the beginning of Phil’s set, security walked through and asked people to remove blankets, claiming it was in Phil’s contract!

Oops... my connection keeps going in and out....

Have fun freaks.

Nobody misses zero.

We always hung satellite speakers in the tree near the sound booth for the midnight show, but not the friday night concert

The sounds of Zero's set will be live on www.klcc.org in just a few minutes. Greg Anton, Steve Kimmock, Pete Sears, Melvin Seals, and I don't know who else. (world's longest soundcheck, apparently.)

They sounded pretty good on the radio. Anyone know who was on horns?

Yes thank you Judit!

Duke Davis sax

Duke has played with DNB several times. He is pretty good.

> Phil's daytime set at OCF 7/12/19

Was there a night time set?

Yes, Woz. See Noodler's 2nd two links posted above on 7/13 at 2:57a.m.

Jay Blakesberg's review on Facebook of Phil's sets at the Country Fair. There are a lot more of his photos on the Facebook page.

The Oregon Country Fair is really like nothing else! It is just something you have to experience. I went there a bunch in the 1980's, and didnt return until almost 30 years later. There is more music than in the past (or at least that's how I remember it). Now the days are packed with Live music. For the first time ever, this year - Phil Lesh headlined the main stage. You could tell Phil was really in to it from the moment he go there. He said to one of his bandmates, I know I want to play DarkStar tonight because the one we did out in the parking lot with the Grateful Dead in 1972 was one of the best ever. The first set was a rockin Phil set. St. Stephen, Dirty Business, some really nice playfulness between band members that had Phil cracking up. The set is a 5Pm to 7Pm slot. The fair closes at 7. After the fair shuts down, and they "sweep" all the daily participants out, the fair gets dark and wiggly!! Phil and The Terrapin Family band had their typical pre-set meeting, and Phil basically said - "Let's do a Telstar/DarkStar and than see if any songs come out of it"! Im pretty sure I've never seen a Phil show with no set list. The psychedelic energy was swirling everywhere, and the night time crowd which is made up of fair employees, vendors, "fair family", etc stood, and danced, and watched and listened as Phil and The Terrapin Family Band took everyone on Mr. Toads wild ride! This set truly was the "no risk, no reward" set that we all hope for! After what seemed like a 45 Minute riveting Telstar/DarkStar where the band certainly was reaching for the stars, they rolled in to a smokin China Rider...well the rest of the set, including the multiple entries and exits in to DarkStar, was out of this world! You all know where to find the setlist. I sat in front of the stage mesmerized by the Psychedelic energy swirling, and could only shoot pictures THRU the flowers that blanket the front of the stage...But that is all this set of music needed visually...photos thru the flowers...Here are daytime and night set images...
