Forums:

Going there tomorrow- have to lol, saw it on P. Runway:)

Looks great, anyone been and have rec’s?

Looking to go to some museums and City Winery

** Anything cool and exciting going down?

ANTIBALAS at the Brooklyn bowl on the 16 & 17 cannot say enough about that band, see ya in a few weeks, super stoked

if ya get out to brooklyn, PETER LUGERS

https://peterluger.com/

Never been to Daniel, but I know of the chef, Daniel Boulud, from when I lived in France. Highly respected and he apprenticed w/ one of the godfathers of French cuisine, Paul Bocuse. Bocuse died recently.

Hope you took some dress-up clothes: https://www.danielboulud.com/restaurants/new-york-city/daniel

This will be a once-in-a-lifetime meal. Enjoy!

Michelin dining is overrated

Hey there!

I have wanted to go to Lugers for forever

hard to get in to ... hmmmm...maybe lunch?

is the experience the same?

Will try to make it to Antibalas- afrobeat?!

We need to get our costumes ready for the Stanley

i think it’s part Mardi Gras theme- can’t wait to see you guys in a few!!!

Bob- I would have gone to TTB in a heartbeat if still in town - much love!!

ive been to several places like this, some in nyc some in sf but not daniel specifically, but i no longer have any desire to spend that kind of $$ on dinner. the amount of quality you can increase with high prices kinda seems to top out at places that need to charge around $100-$150 a person, and all the money beyond that does not increase the quality of the food or the flavor, now you are paying for waiters at your every beck and call, fancy presentation, the restaurant is a huge mansion on a beautiful estate, etc.

i feel like the biggest asshole in the world for paying $300 for dinner no matter how good it is. im BIG into food and i drop serious coin on it, but $300 for a fuckboi dinner is no longer going to happen. im not saying "theres people starving in africa so we should only eat cheap food", not at all, i love luxury food and high cheffery, but there is just a cuttoff point where you are no longer a foodie, but a first world asshole, and a $300 dinner for one is waaaaay over that line. But i have crossed it. the food was good. i had a good night. but all in all those types of places are just a bit to much for me. i did a bit of these kinds of places the first time i went to nyc as an adult...the next time i went back i mostly ate pizza, ramen and bagels. i would choose a $5 slice at difara's or a bagel with smoked fish at russ and daughters over any of the city's 3 michelin star spots any day of the week.

I am good on the horror & Mardi Gras themes, gonna keep it under wraps though

Robyn Hitchcock is at City Winery Wednesday. I think it’s sold out. But since when does that stop a zoner?

Poi Dog Pondering is there this weekend

My friend is taking me to Poi Dog - you going?

I wish!

Damn- it’s been a minute since I’ve seen you

was is David Nelson in Brooklyn or Port Chester?

hope you both are well:)

seen to miss you at Phish- MSG

went 12/29-12/31

Peter Luger's is cash only, no credit cards. They have their own Peter Luger credit card. You can also use a debit card.

Bruce Hornsby tickets for 3 shows at the City Winery (NYC) in May go on sale this Friday and will sell out by 1pm

Not only is Peter Luger's cash only, it's a VERY long wait but an event in itself.  Go hungry.

Daniel? Not unless you're overly pretentious and like to over pay for small portions of french food. Lugers and most NYC steakhouses are the same style. When they fuck up cooking your steak the waiter will be happy to 'buy dessert for the table'. No thanks, a mouthful of flour less chocolate cake can't make up for an over or under cooked $60 steak.

$5 slice @ difara and $15 bagel w/ smoked fish at russ and daughters were better than any of the michelin places i went in NYC..fuck a mansion give me a slice and a grimy corner any day

but if you are going to drop $$ on dinner in NYC go to sushi nakazawa

Ummm- can 73smiley pop in here and let us know how his recent trip was?!

funny you think I’m pretentious

I eat all kinds of different places, different prices

this is my first time here, was invited and we work hard to pick where we want to spend our money

whether it be trips, concerts, food, wine, mortgages, medical bills, tooth implants, speeding tickets

I have made a conscious decision to enjoy my life, whatever or wherever I choose.

Thanks to the Zoners who chimed in offline to tell about Daniel

having been there 3 weeks ago- it sounds like an incredible experience and I look forward to it!

I can eat PB&J all next week :)

Thanks, Daylight

I was just told to try Yakitori Tori Shin

thanks all for feedback!

burn lol

never been or heard of that place but it looks amazing, i say go for it!!

back here in the bay ippuku in berkeley does some similar, but more casual stuff

I honestly don't think anything of you. You posted about Daniel and since I've been and I live close to NYC I gave my opinion. Good thing we still have lurkers! Carry on…

Curious what was so terrible at Daniel?

if food was bad or small portions?

service?

Im surprised

have to laugh about a bunk steak

went to Del Friscos and had a steak with Lobster Mac and cheese

when the waiter set other plates down, somehow my water glass tipped and flooded my plate

ugh.

And FYI

there are more Lurkers of Viva then actual Zoners who post.

Fact!

listen... I can hear them breathing ... :)

I hear them coughing

Just my opinion: the price to quality and quantity of food is completely underwhelming. Service was good. My opinion on lurkers hasn't waned in 17 years: creeps. Post or don't bother coming around.

Hey Ro,

I have not been there, but if you’re curious.... I say go for it and enjoy!

Poi Dog is from here in Chicago - they always deliver on a great time and are full of love and positivity. Have a blast!!

I’ll be in Manhattan 3/16 and am so looking forward to dine again at Il Cortile- so good!

Any chance you’ll be catching Peter Rowan 4/7.

Have FUN Ro ! ~ Enjoy Your Times.

A fine dining experience is like any other high end experience. If you feel comfortable spending the money and you are happy, it's worth it. I haven't been to Daniel but have only heard very positive things from friends who have dined there. I've dined at Lugers many times and have never seen anything but the best service one can get. I've been at tables that they have taken back a steak twice until it was to the customers liking without hesitation. AND they gave the free dessert on top of that. Peter Luger's does something that I've never seen at any restaurant, ever. If you have a limo, or even have a cab waiting for you outside, they have a section that the drivers can park and then invite them in for a steak meal. They use the odd cuts that don't have the right visual size which are every bit as good, just not the right look for sale. Although it was a secret for years, they now list a hamburger at lunch that is ground from the trimmings. It could easily be the best tasting burger I have ever had.

heartThank you, PLF!

I am making a list of all recommendations, appreciate them.

In March, 7-12, I’ll be going to CO to snowboard Winter  Park, maybe Vail a day, then attending Leftover Salmon weekend at Stanley Hotel in Estes Park - Jklowan is coming and that’s exciting - it’s a gorgeous venue and great weekend of music.

April I’ll be home working until Jazzfest!

Hope Peter Rowan is well?

Damn, Tony - the cabbies must line up, hoping for customers headed to Lugers- that’s quite the innie tip!

Most cabs aren't told by the ride to wait. That can be rather spendy for a multi-hour meal. But those that are...

Live that life, enjoy

Hello Ro --

Welcome Back East once again !!

Hope you enjoy your times in NYC and nearby, +  'Fine-Dining' + Music + Art.

As you know,  Guggenheim & MoMa are in the neighborhood of your fancy Chez Daniel place,  and always worth a visit.

G-- is a Boat-shaped helix design;  if there is some artist on exhibit there who(m) you're fond of,  then go check it out.

Have a Blast !

Hey when you go to the Metropolitan Museum check out one of my favorite paintings.

"The Feast of Achelous" by Jan Brueghal the Elder..and Peter Paul Rubins.

When you get there be sure to check out other 17th-18th century Dutch-Flemish paintings nearby.

Many pictures of Gods and pictures of peasants partying down with wine, food and general debauchary!

Both the Gods and peasants knew how to party, only the gods looked better!

Vemeer and Rembrant also nearby.

Love the Dutch! then go see Van Gough

NYC was New Amsterdam first remember!!!

general debauchary

General debauchery is good.

Have a great time, Ro.

Isn't General Debauchery stationed at the same base as Major Damage?

Hi Ro - so how did you like Daniel?  We may check it out next time we're in the city.

Hey there, thanks guys!

crack me up, Trailhead:)

I was day off on Daniel -

its tonight- I’ll let you know what I think!

Willy- let’s go together when you have time - have a great ski trip - say hello to Sixer if you see him sledding by:)

Went to a place called Benchmark in Park Slope and saw The Shape of Water - trippy movie- enjoyed the set design and Sally Hawkins performance without dialogue was great!

heading out to walk some neighborhoods- have a great day!

Ro ~ not sure when your reservation is for tonight but I'm catching an early show downtown at Rockwood Music Hall at 7pm. My friend Lisa is playing guitar for punk cabaret artist, Lauren O'Brien and from what I can tell, it is a fairly unique type of show.

there are more Lurkers of Viva then actual Zoners who post.

Fact!

listen... I can hear them breathing ... :)  >>>>>>

^That is so funny.  Looking forward to your review. Have a great time!

Friend of mine who used to live in the city has been there a few times. Says he has enjoyed it very much every time. “Slightly overpriced but good food”, I remember him saying. Never been myself.

Did you like it? Was thinking it might be a decent spot to tout the wife on an anniversary or bday,

>>went to Del Friscos and had a steak with Lobster Mac and cheese

>>when the waiter set other plates down, somehow my water glass tipped and flooded my plate

>>ugh.

This happened to me at the French Laundry, but they smashed the wine glass across the table as well. Mistakes happen, but what was weird was instead of cleaning it up right away the wait staff huddled away from our table to discuss what to do. Apparently, Keller was in the kitchen that night, and must have been spending his time yelling at the staff, because things were noticeably tense even before that happened. They made up for it and all was good in the end.

I’ve only done 3 star a few times and wouldn’t make a habit out of it, but I think you go for access to things you just aren’t going to get at 2 and 1 star restaurants. I would say it was worth it for the wine list alone.

Daniel Boulud had it's moment. The moment has passed.

I stopped going to his places a while ago.

Quality control issues of food, service and environment.

Nice wine lists though.

How much does one spend on good wine at a restaurant?

I’m horrified to say that we were on our way to Daniel and my friend got a call from relative saying your dad is in a coma and you need to fly here immediately

we are scrambling to book flight, get time off work and try to deal with an awful situation

Daniel will have to wait

Appreciate your vibes at this moment as my friend is really scared

I am going to stay here and watch the dog until I fly back Sunday and offer whatever assistance I can

guess this is a solid example of why we need to enjoy every sandwich

much love.

Wow, sorry to hear that, Ro. Wish you the best.

bummer, hope it all works out {{{{{friends dad}}}}}

So sorry to read the new development, Ro. Serious... hoping for the best possible outcome.

I hope everything is ok, too

keeping up a positive outlook

****SkiFurthur and Trailhead***

Sorry to hear of your friends bad news, Ro. very nice of you to help out at the home front while you can.

The fancy restaurant probably won't be going anywhere so there's always next time.

Totally- my friend just flew out

we actually screwed up on google flights and had to purchase a second flight to Florida an hour ago

didn’t see the mistake until this morning
