Now it's shingles

Forums:

I don't care for the slow decrepitude of the human body.

Last year it was gout (which REALLY sucked) today I learned that I have shingles, which has appeared on the top of my head & neck. It's not killing me or anything and I'll start taking drugs today. My doctor tells me that it will go away, but it's damned annoying.

Anyone else deal with this old partner of my long ago bought with chicken pox?

Shingles sucked for me a couple years ago.  But I got the meds in time, and that helps a lot.

I remember using a lot of cold wet washcloths that I would put under my baseball hat, hanging down

on my affected ears, head and neck.  I'd keep the washcloths in a bowl in the fridge and rotate.

It was especially helpful when outside mowing.  Best of luck.  It'll be an annoyance for a while,

but hopefully won't spread very much more.  Damn, I'm itching just thinking about it!

Mine spread down to my collar bone and onto my face a little before it finally backed off.

May the gods of shingles  make your bout short and relatively painless.

I haven't had Shingles but I've worked in doctor's offices (both western and alternative med offices) where we saw patients with it. It's a real drag, and the itching and pain can be life-altering. Lance, I don't know if you have an acupuncturist, but acupuncture can really help.

Did you have either of the Shingles vaccines? I've had both, most recently Shingrex 1+2, because I have seen the misery that post-herpetic pain can cause and want to avoid it. I hope you escape that.

Love and good wishes to you.

hahaha lance has technically herpes

my grandma had it and it was painful. sorry man.

dude, so sorry to read this.  I hope life gives you a quick recovery.  stay strong lance

bummer! did you happen to receive the new Shingles vaccine - it's a two parter, and brutal. but I'm glad I got the vaccines(s) - unless you say that it didn't work to prevent your Shingles. then FUCK.

Best o' healing to you,Lance. When things get going again I hope to get the vaccine.

>>>hahaha lance has technically herpes<<<

And I didn't even have any fun getting it. Poop.

>>>my grandma had it<<<

Thanks for rubbing in my old age.

>>>did you happen to receive the new Shingles vaccine - it's a two parter, and brutal<<<

No, and now that I'm dealing with it I remember hearing about the vaccine. My old age short term memory loss must have knocked it out of there. And what's "brutal" about it?

Thanks everybody. At this point it's just an annoyance, in these times what would certainly be considered a 1st work problem.

And thanks BK for the subtle way of correcting my spelling of bout.

You're a good teacher.

I got the new 2-part Shingrex vac since I had chicken pox as a kid but mine wasn't what I'd call brutal - with the first shot my arm was pretty sore for a few hours that evening, and I felt a little sick from the second one for a few days but I don't remember it hitting me hard - I knew I was reacting to the vaccine.

Herpes Zoster can be a serious (and sometimes brutally painful for weeks/months/years) thing and well worth avoiding if possible.

>And what's "brutal" about it?

it was 24 hours of  flu like symptoms after each dose. Major body aches, fever,   and overall lethargy. Miserable, but not as miserable as Shingles, I'm sure.

Hope you feel better soon.

Thoughts and the other thing buddy. I hope it's a mild case for you.

Indeed, hoping for a mild case and quick recovery!

My son got shingles when he was  about 11.  He still has the scar in the middle of this forehead to prove it.

There is no such thing as Too Much Information on the zone, the ultimate crutch

Can't wait to hear the story's of how taters greg tinpan bry thommy and pyro's crotch rot went to their brains.

I had shingles, herpes Zoster, when I was about 12, It knocked me out for three weeks, and the nerve it attacked still itches sometimes, I remember  wanting to cut off my arm. The pain and fever were atrocious

And the itching was unstoppable. I m hoping your case remains mellow and the perkadants help you through this good luck

Thoughts and the other thing.  ?

well   ...I do hope you get some live music before  too terribly long

that would help

be it mild and short

i always think of roofing when  I hear shingles.   Don't see many shake roofs anymore .. a few tile but very expensive

Lance, how ya doing sir?  I hope your health is improving

positive vibes and shit..

Thanks for asking drkstar, I appreciate it.

I'm fine now, it never really got out of hand and it was pretty much gone about a week after I starting this whine thread. I don't think I want a worse case though.

I'll be looking for the vaccine when things get back to semi-normal.

As of this morning I have a wellness exam tomorrow morning,  if it is not rescheduled again. Shingles vaccine is on top of my list. I'll update side fx after the shots.

I'm glad you're fine now, Lance. That's true luck.

good to hear it, Lance.  that shingles could have been a real bitch with all the restrictions

Glad to hear you are out of the woods!

just never ask "what's next?"

here's to feeling better

Excellent punctuation pays off

off to smart  n final brother

co-worker got her shots a few weeks back, different appointments for both shots. Besides the 2nd shot giving her some arm pain she had no other side FX.
