Not Looking so Great 4 Hüsky in his Sled-Race dreams sad002_1.JPG

So it's supposed to be race weekend, but the temperatures are looking a bit high.005_1.JPG

This is the big regional Sled-Dawg race attended by many Northeasterners from around the Northeast, but here in Jerseyland.

Weather's forecasted to be rather Warm & Rainy this Weekend, so they will probably cancel.0012_1.JPG

The "sled" has round objects resembling wheels underneath it. Seems like those would roll along just fine over most terrain, even with humans in rainjackets aboard.

I suggest Whacks & Chadder therapy, and then just going for it. Unless the dogs need it kewler; obviously, they're the real concern here.

Also, it looks necessary to search the group for a Labrador invader. They're all sneaky, cute and friendly to your face, but will bite through your kidneys, given the chance.

Yeah,

The Labrador infiltrator is actually the 'Lead Dog' in that team. Makes sense in that Labs will often respond to dog commands, while Sibes say "Yes I heard you, and fuck off."

We've only been with this group a couple months or so, and they are very sensitive about weather and temperature.  Not the Dogs really, but the Trail Boss dude.

They tend not to run when it's over fifty degrees F.

My hound really doesn't give a Hoot if it's warm, I just stop and give H.I.M. chilled water when the temps are high.

Maybe it's his normal look, but Hüsky doesn't look happy.

Is he okay with this activity?

Thom,

If you mean the dawg in second photo, that one was another fellow's  and it was the first time participating on a multi-dawg team. Actually, he didn't want to run and stopped after a few hundred yards. But, he was OK running attached to a mtn. bike.  Mine rather enjoyed his times tethered to the line with the others.  He took right to it and ran great.

So the weekend Sat/Sun race turned into Sunday only, with a moderate turnout of racers. Saturday  was too warm so they called it.

Many Hüskies, both Siberian and Alaskan, and some 'German Shorthair Pointers' that are actually part Greyhound. Those were faaaasst Dawgs and took first prize in their category. People were there from all over; Maine, New Hampshire, Syracuse, Pennsylvania, Delaware and of course Jerseyland.

It's a 3.8 mile course, pretty flat, sandy soil, Pine Barrens. I did not enter my Hound in the 'Bikejoring' race as he's still not used to being 5-6 feet out in front (that's the official rule) but the winning times were under 12 minutes in the one & two-Dawg bike races, so that's about 20 MPH over the whole course.  The top racers also had those Giant-Tire bikes with ultramodern gearing.

In comparison, my Hound has been timing 4-minute miles pulling my Krap K-Mart bike over a 2-mile uninterrupted sprint, sometimes a bit faster or slower. These guys are doing 3-minute miles (liek 4 in a row) !! He needs more practicesmiley

Anyway he had a ball meeting all his cousins, and we rode around on some side trails. A nice lady hooked H.I.M. up to her 3-wheel scooter and he adapted to that pretty well, just a quick 1/2 mile run. Out of the 15-20 Siberians there, my Boy seemed to be the largest, so maybe he's got some Malamute in his lineage...

Yep, I had the wrong dog. But I could tell it wasn't a happy dog.

Thanks.

i can halps h.i.s. ?

So the last photo of Hüsky and his Girlfriend (Ramona ??) was some weeks back.

They really got along Great.

She's such a little Flirt.

Today he met another good-looking Bitch, similar in color.

But she snapped at his Nose... playing hard-to-get...

He goes for those black & white types.

Jonnyt, if you are serious regarding adopting the Hüsky when I drop Dead,  I'll put you on the List. There are certain Criteria for potential adopters.

ize has.

Couple shots of the prototype 3-wheel scooter or 'gig' from Team Outlaw.

0002..JPG

Hard to tell from these fotos but each wheel has long-travel independent suspension. The 2-wheel axle is the front.

That's the only one of its kind in existence. It's a prototype out for field-testing.  I suppose Outlaw Racing will market them in the future. It's really a pretty rad 'sled'.

Couple of Liz's awesome Doggies from other races...

They kinda look like they're having Fun.

How fun~ working dogs getting to do their thang  !!

Buddy should really be an agility dog. He loves it so much when we make him obstacle courses.

Second to last pic is fantastic!
