Northern California Zoners, and others

Forums:

Hey folks, I wanted to share something with you, especially those affected by the summer fires.

Anyone can participate, but I thought about you specifically and would hope you wouldn't mind spreading the word.

At the end of each year in Utah, the Salt Lake Tribune asks people to select a "Utahn of the Year".

This year, Matt Burchett, the courageous firefighter who lost his life last August while fighting wildfires in California, is one of the choices.

If people would like to show support for Matt and his family and add their voice to the choice,  the link is

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/UtahnoftheYear

On behalf of Matt's broken-hearted family and friends, thank you for your consideration. He was an extraordinary man and we miss him so much.

His birthday is Dec 28th, and as you can see, during this first holiday season without him, the family has chosen to celebrate his incredible life. His parents sent this e-mail out.

"Hi Everyone
Matt’s birthday is December 28th. We are having a get together in his honor and would like to invite you to come. It will be at the ********* Clubhouse from 6 til 9.
Matt loved parties and music so bring your instruments.
We hope to see you there. Let us know if you can make it."

His family is so incredible. One of the pictures on their Christmas card this year is a picture of Matt in his fire gear in the forest in a ghost-like image superimposed in the clouds of a beautiful mountain sunset photo. Matt loved nature.

Thanks for reading and for your consideration. Have a good holiday.

Forgot to drop in one of the last photos of Matt, preparing for the day's work.

So sad, but so sweet. He really sounds like a guy to celebrate!

2 firefighter friends.

will visit 1 over the holidays.

tough SOB. strokes ain't shit.

everyday is a blessing.

love you all.

Done Slick. He is about 300 votes out of first. In second place currently.

Done.

Sad, Turtle.

Done.

Thanks so much folks. Much appreciated.

I'm actually going to write the Trib as both Matt and Mr. Brent Taylor deserve the award. No reason we can't have 2 Utahns of the Year. Hard to say one is more deserving than the other.

I hope both of the gentleman get more votes than the Utah Jazz player, as likable as he is.

Brent Taylor was the mayor of North Ogden and shipped out to Afghanistan with the Utah National Guard. He was killed by a rogue soldier while on foot patrol Nov. 3, leaving a wife and seven children.

This just happened recently. Again, thank you. And feel free to spread the word in Northern Cal.

Done.

You're a good dude Slick.

Well, Matt received 32.89% of the votes (5,677 of 17,263 votes) but the other deserving guy got 38.97 % or 6,727.

At least both were more than double the 3rd place guy, Donovan Mitchell from the Utah Jazz with 2,590.

It shows most the voters strongly held these two in their hearts, which is the most important thing to their families as they try to move on with their lives.

My e-mail suggestion for two "Utahns Of The Year" went unheeded.

Thanks to all who helped spread the word or voted. Merry Christmas.
