No Billy K tonight at Red Rocks

Forums:

Some kind of non-Covid illness. Jay Lane filling in at the last minute.

Shouldn't have eaten that heady lot burrito

A buddy of mine who's at the Rocks just texted me that Billy K does have covid. Take that with a grain of salt. Just sharing what I heard.

Friends, one of the many things this pandemic has reminded us is that health is more important than anything. I developed some cold-like symptoms this week and had it checked out and I am relieved to report that it isn’t covid and also isn’t anything serious. However, out of an abundance of caution, my medical team has advised me to take it easy so that I can continue to do what I love - make music with my brothers.

Having just been to Red Rocks with the Kids, I can tell you that the altitude up here really affects me and can compound with the respiratory symptoms I’ve been experiencing today to make for unnecessary difficulties. So out of an abundance of caution we called in my friend Jay Lane to assist in the drum chair tonight.

I love you and don’t worry — I’m not going anywhere. I’m just taking a breather, so to speak, so that we can continue to dance and shake our bones. I’ll be back to full steam ahead momentarily.

Thanks for understanding,

Billy

Thanks for the straight dope, Noodler.

Mike with the front line reporting

Thanks for noticing, Racket. You're really good at that.

It's 43f and possibly raining in Morrison. Brrrr.

Smart move to rest up.

He's allowed to call in sick, and the way he plays nowadays Jay Lane won't be that different.

But does he still get paid for the gig?

A parting gift from Texas, no doubt.

yea cos he sure couldn't have gotten an abortion

what

There are some other drummers who can play with a Billy feel, but Jay has the most history with Bobby and that’s the deciding factor. If Bob is comfortable with it, the show goes on.

My first thought was that Mickey was going to go solo.

Did Mickey leave the show? I read that.

You know, I feel like I gave a disservice to ol' Billy.

Jay Lane is a pro & all, but I find his playing very straightforward/dull generally.

Billy is not nearly the player he used to be, not really even close lately, but he's still got that something that all the greatest have, an ability to shake your shoulders & hips in a groovy way.

Charlie Watts had that, Billy still does too.

I'm sure Lane was OK tonight, maybe even a bit tighter, but still, even now he's no Billy Kreutzmann.

Mickey did leave the show early, but posted on FB that he'll be back tomorrow

Glad I couldn't get tickets. I knew there was a big chance that the weather would not be pleasant. Surprised they still have shows booked until November.

The show executed beautifully. We need to accept age is on us and appreciate life in every fleeting moment!

Life is short,

interested in the Mickey story, does he bail early on these shows often?

None of this has happened before. Chaos last night.

On Stealyerfacebook he posted a short apology and said see you tomorrow. Maybe the drummers want a raise. The great resignation hits the rhythm section? Maybe Jay Lane made a comment about his soft sticks and Mickey took them and went home. Weird. I feel bad for all the people who made a pilgrimage.

Althea encore? yeccch

The real reason Mickey bailed

^He couldn't keep up with Jay Lane!wink

Yikes, Jerry couldn't have saved that one

What I heard the band played good that night  Mayer was playing great. The cold didn't seem to effect them much

The real ? is why did Mickey bail? And what's up with Kreutzman?

And will Bill finish the tour?

I think Bill will be back when the band is playing at sea level

I blame it on the Althea encore.  Time to put that song to rest.

....I am hearing that Mickey's heater blew up/exploded during Morning Dew, hence his early exit?

Did he see the Dew Baby first?
