I recently stumbled cross this site:
JAMES R ANDERSON PHOTOGRAPHY (I don't know the guy and his stuff is mostly watermarked and available for sale)
https://jranderson.photoshelter.com/gallery-collection/Grateful-Dead-Con...
I like the shots from 70s and 80 shows. Click thru -- there's quite a bit.
I especially like this one as I haven't seen the inside of this place for 40 years.. check out the PA

Another great memory.....Springfield Civic Center May 11, 1978. At this show they pushed Keith's piano center stage to keep him awake (didn't work).

Nice that Billarica show was my first show. The PA was falling over by the end of the show because the ice from the hockey rink was melting. Might be me in one of those Hartford hallway shots but who the hell can tell at this point.

<The PA was falling over by the end of the show because the ice from the hockey rink was melting>
As I recall, the place was crowded and hot inside. The floor was packed. So some "brilliant" soul in the center of the ruckus decided to pry up the thick sheets of plywood covering the ice to cool the place down.
Only problem was, the 4 x 8 sheets were heavy and once they were lifted up, there was no place to put them. So they were passed over the heads of the crowd... which was really disconcerting, as you would be standing there minding your own business and then a giant sheet of wood appeared over your head and you had to hold it up before the crowd shoved it along.
And to make matters worse, the ice was too cold and too slippery to stand on -- so you had these "holes" in the crowd where the sheets of plywood had previously been -- making the floor scene even more cramped..
And even worse. some asshole stole my cherished denim jacket (yes, we wore them back then) with the Skeletons from the Closet design on the back, that I had tied to a pole way up in the bleachers. When I returned to get it, it was gone! Fukin thieves.

Yeah that show was a cluster
Yeah that show was a cluster all around. That was the only time my feet left the ground in the crush to get in when they opened the door. Good life lesson at 16. I now know exactly how people die when crowds start to crush.

Here's another great little known photo archive with some real gems:
Univ Mass photo archive -- if you have time, who doesn't? poke around - there's a lot in there from two photographers Peter Simon and Jeff Alberson
Grateful Dead performing at the Ark: L. to r.: Jerry Garcia (guitar), Pigpen McKernan (keyboards), Bill Kreuzman (drums), Mickey Hart (drums), Bob Weir (guitar), Tom Constanten (keyboards), April 21, 1969
Grateful Dead at Sargent Gym, Boston University: Dave Nelson playing guitar and singing, November 21, 1970
From a series of photographs depicting the Grateful Dead at Boston University's Sargent Gym. Opening for the Dead was a vaudeville chimpanzee act and the New Riders of the Purple Sage.

Thanks Alan. My wife's first
Thanks Alan. My wife's first show was that Boston Sargent Gym show. She remembers the chimp act and was apparently pretty impressed by the band as she went on to see them hundreds of times until the very end.
She was also at that Billarica show so she'll be happy to see the photos.
She's in the hospital now so it will give her something to take her mind off of other stuff for a min.
Thanks again.

county line ... sorry to hear that... best wishes to her and you.
As mentioned, there's lots of great stuff on that photo archive to keep your mind off things for a bit, too... not sure what it all has to do with it Univ of Mass, but I found Beatles to Bonnie Raitt.
Re Dead, Yale Bowl and MIT shots are in there..
Somehow it's possible to filter to rock bands and rock concerts using that box to the left
