One one hand, Deadheads and Parrotheads are somewhat similar. Pump them full of drugs or booze and they'll dance and sing along to just about anything.
On the other hand, the Buffet experience was centered around Jimmy's ebullient personality and John Mayer is one of the more insipid musicians of the past 25 years. Not sure how it would work.

Reefer Band already has Mac McAnally who is as good if not a better guitar player than Mayer. And JP is right. Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band were all about, well, Jimmy Buffett. Can't see anything remotely like Dead & Co. with those guys. Maybe a one off memorial concert with a star studded set of guests taking turns on Jimmy's tunes, but I just don't see them touring full time without the leader of the band.
