New On HBO

Forums:

Anyone watching the new Perry Mason? Has nothing similar to the tv show which some of us grew up with. Two episodes available and it's very film noir . I like it a lot . Also a new documentary started last night , I'll Be Gone In The Dark, about Michelle McNamara and her book on East Area Rapist ( also serial killer) she died and her husband Patton Oswalt got the book published and .... can't give the end away I only know because I read about it two years ago when it happened. Both worth watching imo

anyone who has HBO and hasnt yet watched the wire at least twice needs to do so ASAP, especially considering the current political climate. have questions about what exactly institutionalized racism entails? david simon will explain it to you better than any other living human could in 50-60 hours of one of the greatest stories ever told in american history, without once using the word "racism" or directly discussing it in any way...it illuminates the structure and mechanics of the system without discussing them in a right/wrong moral/immoral paradigm...its just laid bare and left for you to decide.

We own the wire and I'm about ready to watch it again but never season 5.   It was too much and still haunts me.    One of the best shows I've ever seen and I love how the characters are neither good or bad, everyone has little of both.   I can hear the whistling of the Farmer in the Dell right now.

Is East area - East bay?  I haven't heard about either of those first two but I'm doing more tv watching than I'd like right now.   Happy to check it out.

Well episode 1 is Sacramento. Not really East Bay

the wire is the best tv show ever i think.

well said, daylight.

Looking forward to these new shows...

Will check out The Wire as well.

The Wire is fantastic! After three or four episodes I turned on the closed captions. It really helped to understand what exactly the drug dealers were saying.

MacNamara's research had nothing at all to do with the EAR's capture, but she did light a fire under LE to solve the cases. It will be interesting to see how HBO portrays that.

Been watching PM. Jury still out.

He plead guilty to 13 murders in exchange for a life sentence (he's 74)

OK. I kind of enjoyed this show, looking forward to the next show every week.

Season finale was tonight.  And I gotta say what a huge disappointment.   Total Bullshit. Nothing was solved, nothing was settled.  They really cheesed out.

I've been enjoying the "Cisco Kid" series I found on DVD from Dollar Tree bargain bin.

Yes like in that Eric Burdon & WAR song,  "Cisco Kid Was A Friend Of Mine..."

Cisco and Pancho ride gorgeous Hollywood horses and actually don't rob banks or hold up the stagecoach.
The Horses are beautiful and extremely intelligent.  They know how to hide behind rocks and rescue their Pet hu-persons from imminent tragedy. One is named "Diablo" and the other is "Loco".

They are actually "Outlaws"  on the side of Justice and Good Clean Fun.

I never recall seeing it on TV as a kid,  although I remember other Cheesy western Hollywood stuff like "Gunsmoke" and "The Lone Ranger".

Watchmen on HBO was very good especially if you liked the movie.

HBO hasn't been that good lately. I liked Euphoria, Westworld  was just OK and their new show I Know This Much Is True makes you want to slit your wrists.

For you GOT fans this story about Emilia Clark who played Daenerys is fucking amazing. Goes to show you have no idea how someones life is going from the outside

I enjoyed these shows way more than what HBO is serving up now:

If you like early 40's LA, the invention of rockets, and a sex orgy drug cult you will like Love is War - Strange Angle on CBS All Access and the best part is that it is a true story.

Also Trust on Hulu the story of of the Getty family and the kid napping of his nephew in the 70's is great too.

Finally High Town on Starz is a good show about mid level drug dealers on Cape Cod.

HBO has sucked balls for some time now. However, Hugh Jackman starred as an in the closet principal in long island that scammed a school district for millions. forget the name but wasn't bad.

I thought True Detective Season 1 was incredible.

Going to check out Lovecraft Country Starting this Sunday...

Detective Season 1 is great as is Succession which is one of the top shows right now, but they hit and miss a lot.

Anyone else check out Lovecraft Country?

Not on HBO, but check out Marcella if you like crime dramas.

Love me some Succession, True Detective season 1 and Watchmen (didn't see the movie).   All of it was great.

HBO puts out some decent shoes for sure.

Lovecraft Country is pretty insane. Don't know how they will be able to keep it going. They have done more plot in two episodes than most shows do over two seasons.
