ok, which 3 ?
i may be able to swing 4, but, realistically, its looking like 3 shows on this list can be done:
phil
dylan at beacon
jon mclaughlin jimmy herring
dixie dregs
robin trower
springsteen on broadway
ok, i dont want to cross any off....lets start w no brainers...phil, dylan...(i gotta see Bob one more time, as last two ive seen have been average dylan at best, odds are i gotta catch a classic to good Bob show soon), jon and jimmy? cant miss that....so...
cross Bruce off, ive seen him plenty of times. i like the idea of the acoustic, or intimate setting, but, thats prob first cross off...
dixie dregs? one of my all time favorite bands and guitarists...and...never seen...how do i pass that up??
trower?? also, one of all time faves....ive seen him 3 times, but, not in years and years...i know vocalist is changed, but....damn...ok...cross off...
so, financials are always a factor, maybe i can end up swinging four shows instead of three, but, that would be a last minute thing
gimme your list of 3 ...who would you go see?
....and i didnt even mention budgeting for Phish New Years run at same time...uuuughhh...

I'd put the McLaughlin /
I'd put the McLaughlin / Herring as a top priority, and that's why I have a ticket for that one.
Otherwise, my only advice is get tickets where you can score comfortable seats.
You're no Spring Chicken.

Phil is to-taste of course.
Phil is to-taste of course. Based on how open one is about the band he's playing with and how much one loves hearing Phil play live no matter who he's playing with - (I'm in).
Dylan I'd say is almost the same thing, based on how much one loves Dylan. I'm sure many would consider crossing that show off their list ASAP, while for the true believers it would be a can't miss show - (I'm in).
The Mahavishnu/Jimmy show is hard to pass up; any chance to see John M. plugged in is special - (I'm in).
The Dixie Dregs would be fun but they'll be old now and just re-creating what they once had, but as a fan it's hard to pass up a chance to see the old group one more time (Out).
Trower would be an easy skip (Out).
And I'm sure many would say the Bruce is a certain keeper, and even if one isn't a huge Springsteen fan the ancillary aspects of those shows; great venue, intimate acoustic sets, Manhattan, etc. makes a good argument. (Out)
It was tough to cross off the Dregs, but I saw them when they were great. I'm not that big a Springsteen fan, and there's just something about seeing Bob Dylan, especially this far into the 21st Century, so Dylan won out over the DDs & Bruce.

I gave up on catching a
I gave up on catching a satisfying Dylan show years ago. I'm a huge fan, and I've seen him more than a few times, but it's never been great. I saw him with Tom Petty and the Grateful Dead in 1986, and it was amazing that he could play with just an acoustic guitar in front of 50,000(?) people for 45+ minutes. My beef is that I like his songs, but he insists on keeping them fresh, so I never know what he's playing, even when he's playing songs I know by heart. God bless him, he can do whatever he wants, but I'll just stay in my basement and listen to the records.
