The truth is that any member of The House of Representatives or The Senate can be removed from office by a 2/3rd majority for any reason at all. If 2/3rds vote you out for wearing white after Labor Day, you're out. The ultimatum you posted, that a member must condemn to the liking of another party (you didn't condemn it hard enough!!!) is very chilling to any democracy and IMO is worse than the actions being taken in election reform. Minority opinions need not be voice or we will show you the door. Doesn't matter if you didn't commit a crime, you just weren't doing what you think "we" think you should.

I get the whole "good for the goose" precedent that would be set. Even if you don't agree that Congressional complicity with Trump's current transgressions rises to such a level, surely you can imagine SOME scenario that is worthy of such an ultimatum? While I have absolutely no doubt the vast majority of Dems have a constant political agenda at play ... might it be possible there also exists legitimate executive oversight concerns related to the basic framework of our Republic that are completely independent of said agendas? It's like playing in a game of softball where of course you're going to do what you can to help your team win, but what do you do if the other team pays off the ump and tramples on the rulebook at every turn, do you just pretend it never happened and play the next game knowing this is now the status quo?
If Biden wins and Dems take Congress, I personally believe the first order of business ought to be to locate our nation's "black box" and to identify how our Republic crashed so hard and start a genuine discussion about remedies can be implemented if at all possible.
There are currently plenty of cat burglars casing the joint; carefully scoping out the chinks in the armor as events unfold in real time. Even if Trump loses and somehow relinquishes the keys, the Republic will have extremely pronounced "stretch marks" that can be read like tea leaves; allowing said burglars to extend beyond most extreme size that left the marks.
The thing about the black box is that it is in large part an "open source" equal opportunity employer and is there for the taking by anyone who can discern its contents. If the pendulum swings back in the other direction and there hasn't been a public identification and understanding of the most recently added contents of the black box, the vulnerabilities and exploits contained therein will still exist & possibly grow in strength.
Yep plenty of people have taken notice how easy it would be to make America into an authoritarian state. If Trump were even a little bit competent we would be there now. All he had to do was have the slightest bit of charm, and run a few big populist infrastructure projects and we would be looking at the end of of democracy here.
