seems like this might be the best touring nels cline project in quite some time. see some of you in berkeley perhaps...

I'm hoping they bring this East, in case I want to bring my teenage son, is it more Jazz like the cd he did with Lang or experimental like the Nels Cline Singers. I know those don't really fit what he does outside Wilco but its as close as I can get, I prefer the former to the latter

THANK YOU.

is it more Jazz like the cd he did with Lang or experimental like the Nels Cline Singers

some of the songs seem pretty similar to the nels/julian stuff, but the addition of a rhythm section pushes the sound further away from straight jazz and the improvisations are much noisier and more experimental than their duo work, but most of the structural stuff is less experimental than the singers, if that makes any sense...they are also both on telecaster which also brings more rock/experimental/noisy kinda sound...they dont seem to take as long to "take off" as the singers...i might like this band better

thanks

JELLUS!

I have seen them twice and think they are the shit!

Julian and Nels have a real good ability to communicate while playing.

I would agree that this is more jazzy and less experimental - but that is not to diminish their exploratory skills nor their improvisation.

In his review on Viva, ateix was not as impressed with their music - but still considered them all to be exceptional musicians.

Cline playing here in NY 11/27 at The New School, but with a different band , billed as "an ayers christmas" don't believe its in my wheelhouse

Their tribute to John Abercrombie was some of the best music I've heard played live this year.

>> jazzy

Wow. Is that a technical term?

That is awesome they are playing the Arcata Playhouse on a Saturday night. That is road trip worthy from the Bay Area. Wish they were playing SF JAZZ center since it's 2 blocks from my apartment

Wow. Is that a technical burn?

Thanks for the heads up. Got my Portland tickets. Should be a great Valentine's Day.
