Neil Young & Crazy Horse Roxy 50th: Tonight’s The Night

Forums:

Neil has now added Nils Lofgren to the line-up, meaning that asides from the late Ben Keith (who's spot will be taken by multi-instrumentalist Micah Nelson), the same players that graced the stage for the opening of the Roxy 50 years ago will reassemble tonight and tomorrow night for a pair of historic shows.  Hope Neil arranges for professional audio and video of these performances.

They will be billed as The Santa Monica Flyers, and will be performing two full albums with all songs predating the opening of the original Roxy 50 years ago.  Time Fades Away and Rust Never Sleeps?

I'll be checking into the Movietone link at Neil Young Archives to see if there's a stream:

Rust Never Sleeps came out in 1979.

Right Mike.  My bad.  I meant Tonight's The Night.

Had an opportunity to attend tonights show, but can't get down to LA.....

Bummer Woz.  That's like the all-time miracle.

He tried to do his best, but he could not.

I Imagine A TOUGH Ticket To Be Had.

I saw missing persons 2 weeks ago, pretty good!

Pretty good for $53 a song.

Did Nils make it?  I had an email saying he was a late addition.

a FB report from a good friend said it was in his top 3 concerts of all time ... musta been really nifty

Have a buddy who was there, he's going again tonight.

He was very psyched, obviously a big fan, so to finally see Neil and Co. someplace small like that was huge for him.

At one point Darryl H. was right behind him filming some of it with what seemed like an old-school camera.....

By tonight they should be warmed up!!!

Watching a few of the videos that I've seen of these shows, it seems to me that Micah was the main rhythm guitar player.

And from what admittedly little I've seen, my take is..... Micah has NO CLUE what he's doing in that role.

I'm always the first to say that if you don't go then you don't know, and I believe that, but based solely from what I've heard from the videos I'd say, get that little dishwasher OUT of this legendary band!

At least on the videos it doesn't sound like The Horse to me, it sounds more like a sick shetland pony trying to be a crazy horse.

But to my ear, definitely not Crazy Horse.

Billy and Ralph, if not Neil, deserve better.

IMUEO.

Wow. A dishwasher and a Shetland pony do not a happy Lance make.

But what's an IMUEO?

They're billed as The Santa Monica Flyers, not CH.

wow, don't fuck with that dude's neil young music.
