NBA Playoffs

Forums:

Yeah Yeah...sports folder

Now that's out of the way.   Exciting start so far with one middling team out (clippers), some much needed youth explosion - Maxey, Pool, Edwards, Ja, Trae, and the return of the dubs (potentially). I'm looking forward to day two.

Also up for discussion, where do the Lakers even begin to clean up this mess.

Been watching John C Reilly in the HBO series on the Lakers. He is killing it as Dr. Jerry Buss.

playoffs are going to be great, one great byproduct of these super stars not playing games in the regular season is the great first round match ups

Unfortunate injuries for the Raptors. I love Maxey, fun guy to root for.

Celtics/Nets should be a great series

Surprised Boston is favored in that series but I'd be happy if they win.   I can't get behind kyrie.

Fabes, thanks for the reminder, forgot about that HBO series.

Good match ups and a mix for many teams to take the title.   Not sure i'd bet on this year.

It was fun to see all the Warriors actually suited up and playing, pretty much for the first time all seaason, and it was fun to see their focus much sharper than it has been. They've played loose & sloppy for months now, we'll see if they can keep the sharpness going.

It's also been fun to see Klay getting back to his game. For most of the time since he's been back he has looked a little slow and his shot was hit-&-miss, but just in the last three or four regular season games his feet got quicker on defense and his shot is back. He's looking like the pre-injuires Klay now. Right on time.

And smart coaching by Kerr, starting Poole with Curry coming off the bench. Everyone was assuming that Curry would start, and there was a lot of talk about how Poole would respond to going back to the bench after playing so well early in the season when he was starting for Klay, and then the past month when he was starting for Curry. But a veteran like Curry isn't going to have a problem coming off the bench, especially since he's on limited minutes right now, and that gave Poole a nice confidence bump.

We'll see how long this setup lasts, but IMIO, at least in this series they should continue to start Poole and have Curry come in later, which is a pretty good weapon to have. If they get past Denver there's plenty of time to adjust that. Or not, but either way, Poole sure gives them more versatility and major headaches for the other team.

And if Draymond continues to harass Jokic and play great defense overall like he did last night, they should get past Denver.

And it was fun to see Chase Center full & rocking. Despite the capacity of that place being almost exactly the same as Oracle Arena (Oakland Coliseum) Oracle could literally be lowered inside Chase. The new place is vast and it won't ever be "Roaracle", but it is finally a good home court.

I'll be at the game tomorrow, and I'm really looking forward to that. Playoff basketball live is pretty fucking amazing, and even if the Warriors lose, being in the house allows me to appreciate the overall play and the spectacle is still fun.

I was at Game 6 of the 2019 Finals, where Klay blew out his knee and the Warriors lost the championship. It was a bummer, but it was also an amazing game to be at and the crazy intensity of it all made it one of the greatest sporting events I've ever attended.

It's a long road to the finals, and in the west who's going to get past Phoenix? And in the east who's going to make it?

As long as the Dubs are in it I'll be paying attention. If/when they're eliminated I'll rely on this thread to keep up.

Go Warriors Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I watched the last 20 minutes of the Warriors last night on TV and had a good time. My sister will be there tomorrow night - she's a true fan.

Warrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrriors!

guess i won't begin a 76ers thread after all lol

MAXEY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Celtics !!!  That 4th quarter was some crazy shit. No,, Fuck YOU Kyrie

Yeah...exactly.    I took the dog for a walk thinking the last 7 minutes would last 30 and it was over when I got back but the replay is pretty incredible.  I'd be thrilled if Boston could pull this series out.

Chris Paul looked awesome last night . He almost single handedly kept the Pelicans from getting back in that game.

Unfortunately for me I am a Knicks fan and WE SUCK!

Bob is absolutely beaming in that pic with Steph!

Lance, you lucky mofo, you got to see a really fun one, but I will admit that I was worried for the first 10 or so minutes that your presence was going to be a problem. ;)

As for the Warriors' chances to win another title, I would say it's looking as good for them as any other team, but the problem is that there are other teams that can play their style (unlike this banged up Denver team), and those games tend to be a lot closer.  Good news or GS is they have what no other team has: Draymond fukin' Green!

>Good news or GS is they have what no other team has: Draymond fukin' Green<

Any prop bets on the number of players Green hits in the nuts this playoffs?

I'd set the line at 2

.

Yeah, it was a blast. The new place is fine and was loud & cooking, but it doesn't "buzz" like the old place. That's too bad but not surprising, since the same amount of people were squeezed into a place half the overall size.

On the flip side, it's nice to be able to actually get into the building and move around with ease instead of being smashed into a can, and at least when coming from the south it's way easier to get to and leave from, and it's in the middle of a big city, not stuck in an industrial wasteland.

And any talk about winning a championship is seriously premature at this point. Denver is short-handed, and now they'll be playing the next two games at altitude, which will almost certainly have an effect on the running Warriors, at least in the first game.

Getting to the finals is such a long, grueling road to travel and they're just at the first steps, but if they stay healthy they at least have a shot, and it's going to be fun to watch.

GW!!!!!

I'd bet Smart and Green would get chippy if the Celts and Dubs made it to the finals.  Different players but similarities in how they approach the game.

Big question now is if Booker is out for more than a few games.  I still think Suns should beat Pels without him on paper. If he's out for good, that would take out the reg season favorite and open this even wider.   Dubs might have a pretty clear path to the finals as the other teams are a bit banged up, looking shaky.

In the east, I wouldn't dare place a bet. Too many even matched teams to even guess.

^^^^

Philadelphia vs Miami for Eastern Conference  Championship. Bank on it.

I never count KD out until he's out.  The nets could lose first round or go to the finals.   A big wildcard.

And simmons has been cleared for contact .....seems weird they'd bring him into the mix now but you never know.

go pelicans.

Pelicans were giving the Suns fits before D Book got hurt.  Even with their Big 3 (Ingram, McCollum, Valanciunas) shooting miserably, they almost took Game 1.  With the series headed back to NOLA where the Smoothie King Arena will be rocking, the champs are on the ropes.

The Pelicans have fresh legs, with three rookies (Herb Jones, Jose Alvarado, and Trey Murphy) in the mix.  Zion Williamson remains a possibility.  He's getting close to getting the all clear to play.  The Pelicans have said he won't play until next season, but if they advance they may change their tune.

I will be in the Crescent City from May 4-10 for the second week of Jazzfest.  Hoping the Pelicans are still rolling then to throw a little more spice into the gumbo!

Zion Williams, I wonder if he's up to 380 lbs.

Ja Baskafarian, do not count Memphis out

jimmy Buckets is nasty, would love to see the match up with Philly

I really am hoping for a first round exit for Brooklyn

all 4 top seeds in the east have a shot

only 3 top seeds can do it in the west, Dallas has no shot

sweeeeeeep on saturnday, bitches !

That Memphis Minn game was pretty insane yesterday.   Minn was up huge with the home crowd and energy and just fell flat, hard.   That fourth quarter alone was nuts.   With as much as Ja falls to the floor, I gotta think his body won't last too long.   There is a little iverson in how much he throws his body around but obviously much more athletic.

I also wouldn't rule out the mavs in some capacity.  They are handling a deep Jazz team without Luka.

jason tatum is one of the very best players in the league. i hate he's a celtic, but this is the kinda guy i want.

6 steals ta boot...

He's showing up.  The Celtics are delivering with some good defense.

The biggest issue I see is that almost every team has someone who is hurt.   It's another case of who will be healthy enough to make the finals.  Dubs may have cracked that code after years of being victim to it.

Even at an older age, Bobby is still such a stud.

Kyrie and Kevin don't want that green smoke. Invisible men

Trae Young a boy playing with men, sorry Hawks you are riding a pony, and need a horse

tonight: HOME game for the win

Heat and Suns

toss up who wins

both have offense at will, strong defense and a bench full of talent

^Heat was my preseason pick to win the championship. Told my gambling friends to take a shot.

KD's been exposed for the skinny mofo he is...Probably should've prepared better for this point in his career, because Jason Tatum, et al are manhandling him and pushing him off his spots. Weight room in the offseason for the slender man. On a macro level, Kyrie's selfish bullshit all year coupled with the clown show that is Ben Simmons (how is his back hurt after sitting out an entire year?), has most likely taken an emotional toll on KD as well. KD's loyalty was paid back by 3 selfish fucks: Kyrie, Harden, Simmons. I bet he wishes he out of toxic Brooklyn and back in the bay area with Steph.

Kyrie' quote will always be a shadow hanging over Steve Nash's coaching. "We don't need a coach, we're all set". Nash should be fired along with the entire staff. Sad, pathetic, and un-redeemable that Brooklyn team is.  Carry on...

Watching Denver beat the Warriors was fun to watch. Even tho the Warriors will advance.

Hadn't seen the Joker play much, but seems you might could build a contending team around his skill set.

Even with the refs sucking pond sum and Durant on fire couldn't prevent a sweep.

Hell of a job Boston.

Nice to see all the brotherly love,  smiles and congratulatory hugs after the game.

It was a hell of a job indeed.   I'm curious how they will match up with the bucks.  Celtics coach clearly had some insatiable gut into how to break the nets down.  And if they can all stop being head cases they will be fine next year.   There were some close games in there and you add Harris and Simmons back in and I'd think they would have taken that series....assuming Simmons isn't permanently damaged.

jazz are done with Mitchell out.  They we're heading that direction either way.

philly lost some of its mojo.

>philly lost some of its mojo<

Nah, they're inconsistent, been a problem all year.

I believe that Simmons will never play another NBA game.

<<Celtics coach clearly had some insatiable gut into how to break the nets down.

Also, completely out-coached Steve Nash.

<<I believe that Simmons will never play another NBA game.

I hardly think Brooklyn believes that.

>I hardly think Brooklyn believes that<

That's irrelevant.  He's already make $65 million. Add another $20 million, if his grievance is successful. It's not like he needs the paycheck.

What Ja going to do next?

They should shorten Minnesota's  Name to just Timber!

Ja is going to stay....although he should probably go to the Knicks and build some crazy brand - from a career and financial move, that would make the most sense.  People would love it. I'm no knicks fan but the NBA was more fun when you could cheer against them.    Spike Lee doing Ja ads.....

A good friend of fine who follows this stuff closely suggested Mitchell will be out of Utah.  I find that hard to believe.

I tend to think Simmons will start the season.

Three close-out road games tonight.  I think the Mavs will step on the Jazz tonight, but that the Raptors and Pelicans will force Game 7's.

dominant second half for the Sixers. The Heat are going to be tough.

Glad I didn't put money behind my picks.  It took a career performance from CP3 to finish off the Pelicans.  With their returning team, their draft picks, and a healthy Zion Williamson, they are going to be a handful next year.

Embiid out. Fractured orbital bone and concussion No timetable for his return.

That's going to hurt.  They say he may return but still need to test further.   Kind of a waste to have him in up by 30 with 4 minutes in the game but it's easy to play Saturday morning point guard.  Harden better find his shot real quick.

Griz-dubs is a fun match up.

> Kind of a waste to have him in up by 30 with 4 minutes in the game but it's easy to play Saturday morning point guard.<

Doc was scared, didn't want to be the first coach to blow a 3-0 lead. Not sure on the heat's injury status, Lowry and Butler both missed games last series. Regardless, the Sixers are done. Heat in 5.

He should of never been in the game at that time, Stupid move by Doc

How many games has Zion missed since being drafted? I would not get too excited for the Pelicans unless their GM (a good one) trades him for some everyday top talent

Watch for the Knicks get fleeced again for Zion

Whether Zion's healthy or not, the Pelicans should be loaded.  They get the Lakers lottery pick courtesy of the Anthony Davis trade.

>He should of never been in the game at that time, Stupid move by Doc<

It's the type of decision that may cost him his job.

Mike D'Antoni, Sam Cassell sitting in waiting.

They also finished 20 games behind the leader of their division and almost 20 behind the second place team in there division, I don't disagree they will be better but 20 games better? That is a lot to make up in one year. This years draft will be as weak as last years. Time will tell, but it all hinges on Zion imo. past rumors were he did not want to be a Pelican, now that his stock has deteriorated that money the Pelicans can pay above everyone else is looking appealing to him now. I don't see the GM falling for it though

Sam Cassell should of been a head coach long ago, too many retreads in the league, Di'Antonio is one of them

^i hate the D'Antoni talk, but with Morey and Harden it's an all too real possibility.

I'd love to see Cassell coaching the Sixers next year.

>>>Regardless, the Sixers are done<<<

Is that because of the Embiid situation specifically? Because I read somewhere that the fracture isn't as bad as a different one he had and that it's possible he could play with one of those facemask deals, and that the concussion was a mandatory five-day deal, but if that clears up he could only miss one game.

Either way, with the (way too) long regular season and then the completely different level of intensity & physicality that begins immediately in the playoffs, post-season injuries always start piling up and the winners & losers are usually decided by injuries.

Other than shortening the regular season (which will never happen because of money, money, money) I don't know what could be done about that, but it's a shame. It's always good to see the best team win.

Good luck to all who are still in it.

GW!

>Is that because of the Embiid situation specifically<

Primarily. It was already going to be difficult... Embiid had the torn ligament in his right thumb,  imo spoelstra is a better coach than rivers, Miami is the better defensive team, the sixers bench is thin.

I'd be stunned if Embiid played before game three... game four maybe. He's played with a mask before, but I don't believe he'll dominate the way he can when's he is healthy.

Glad I don't have a rooting interest in that Warriors/ Grizzlies series... hell of a game.

Hope the game didn't do too much damage to your health, Lance.

Dubs got too much experience.   To steal a game on the road without green for a half...going to be hard for the Griz.   Poole is a baller.

Celts showed up for the Nets series, but didn't even make an appearance yesterday. Shoddy D and train wreck O.

Ya ain't gonna beat anybody missing wide open 3's.

>>>Hope the game didn't do too much damage to your health, Lance<<<

Thanks, I appreciate the thought. Watching these type of games on TV drives me crazy.

I was only able to watch portions of the game yesterday, the back half of the 2nd quarter and most of the 4th, so I missed most of the grind, but after Green's over-amped bonehead play that got him tossed I was really surprised when I turned it back on to see the W's up 10 in the 4th.

After watching it all later, it seemed to me that they were frazzled by the atmosphere and played frantic in the 1st half, but they settled down and showed their mettle in the 2nd. Maybe Green's ejection got them focused, and Poole showing up big sure didn't hurt either.

This is going to be one hell of a series, almost certainly going six or seven games, and whichever team comes out alive is going to be worn down for the next series.

I'm going to be worn down no matter which team wins.

GW!!!!!

>>>Ya ain't gonna beat anybody missing wide open 3's.

I forgot to mention that.   Holy shit did the C's miss some open shots.   That's good news for them as I don't think it will linger but of all games to lay an egg, that wasn't the one.

>>>they were frazzled by the atmosphere

To me the dubs are always streaky.  So hot and cold.  Curry can go into one of his dribble too much phases, Klay can go ice cold, Green can overreact.....but it doesn't matter, they're able to overcome all of it because of some lighting in a bottle where they can change a game in about 60 seconds.  They can literally muddle through a game and then just blow someone out when they get going on full cylinders even if it's for a minute or two.  Poole here is the wild card. Unexpected and adding that other dimension that is going to make this team very hard to defend.

>>>they were frazzled by the atmosphere and played frantic in the 1st half

I thought the Warriors were keyed up possibly due to being knocked out of the play-In by Memphis last year as well as losing 3 out of 4 to them this year.  Whatever the reason, they played like they were the team that hadn't 'been there' before. Luckily they were able to turn it around, which bodes well for them.

>>>almost certainly going six or seven games

I think you're right, but I'm still hoping (for the sake of my own sanity) that they put the hammer down tonight and really demoralize this young and very dangerous team.

>>> Poole here is the wild card. Unexpected and adding that other dimension that is going to make this team very hard to defend.

Poole was pretty solid from day one but found ways to keep improving as the season progressed, though he too has shown some streakiness at times.  Sure is nice for Steph and Klay to have him as a scoring threat that teams have to take into consideration.

I think the other wildcards are Gary Payton II and Otto Porter Jr... dudes are just scrappy and can hit the big 3 in crunch time.

I don't know if GS should be considered a favorite to win it all (there are some crazy good teams still left in the mix), but I still like their chances to pull off another magical run.

super frustrating watching young teams and young coaches go to sleep with 4 mins left...

and wtf with that poole kid, where'd he come from?

having 3 that can get you an easy 30 is crazy...

>>>that poole kid, where'd he come from<<<

A low 1st round pick from Michigan three years ago. The pick was widely criticized at the time, and he was proving that out at first, in way over his head and looking like a bust.

But after a year & a half playing with their minor league team he seemed to figure it out, and when they brought him up about halfway through last season he began playing about as good as he has this year, and with Klay out for over half of this season he really got the chance to play and gain confidence.

He's only 22, and like most young players he has his good games & not so good games, but he's really helping them right now, forcing teams away from completely swarming Curry and giving them some serious scoring depth.

And then adding him in along with the two 19-year-olds Jonathan Kuminga & Moses Moody and the 21-year-old James Wiseman, things are looking pretty good for the future of the team as well.

Big game tonight.

GW!!!

Damn. Another crazy game tonight.

Bigger than the loss of the game is the loss of The Mitten, who is their 2nd best defender and the guy who can guard anyone, most importantly Morant.

The winner of the NBA title is usually the winner of the injury attrition.

This injury is a big blow to the Dubs.

Still, in the glass half full version, the Warriors great shooters shot badly tonight and still almost had it.

Oy.

On it goes.

GO WARRIORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Winning ugly and giving the Dubs a little Draymond payback. Kerr crying foul play and breaking the code hahahaha

>Kerr crying foul play and breaking the code hahahaha<

Did Green "break the code" in game one, when Clarke elevated and Green grabed him by the front of his jersey, throwing him face first onto the floor?

Does Kerr realize that he coaches one of the dirtiest players in the league?

That Memphis player was going for the ball and just missed real bad.  It doesn't look like he was going for the head, although he surely clobbered it.  And he rightly got ejected.  It just doesn't seem like there was ill intent despite the outcome.

That code talk is B.S.  Kerr needs to publish his code for all of us to read.

Tough break for the dubs to lose payton.   However, the dubs issues were being straight flat from 3 yet they only loss by 5 on the road.   I don't see why they wouldn't win out on this.  Two games at home and then wipe the floor back in Memphis.

Celts showed up

F GS

Morant is the best player in the NBA

Green got pushed hard under the basket waiting for rebound that wasn't called with like 2 min to go. Those refs suck.

^Scott Foster was on the crew?

Yeah, Kerr and the players whining about that foul is pretty ridiculous, especially after Green's play the game before, which was worse. I thought the elbow to Green's face last night was worse than the Payton play, and that wasn't even called a foul.

I don't think Green or Brooks should have been ejected. I understand why the rule is there, playoff games in particular are all played right on the edge of out of control and they don't want the games to turn into a brawl (who wants to try and break up a fight between enraged NBA players?) but kicking players out of games should be the very last option, something that should almost never happen.

And losing Payton is going to hurt the Warriors far more than many seem to think. That guy has quietly been one of the most important players on this years team, and one of the few players in the entire league who can guard Morant. If the W's lose the series is could well be because of that.

Every one of these games is going to be crazy. I was able to finagle a ticket to Game 4 and I'm really looking forward to seeing Morant play live. It should be a damn good show. I just hope no other players on either team get ejected or hurt.

GW!

oof, the Warriors were already missing their starting big, so losing GP2 is huge. Fuck.

Weird how all season they've tended to go cold on 3's as a group (and sometimes for games at a time).  If they can't turn that around and win these next 2 home games, I think they're done.

The playoffs is such a hold serve type of set up. Steal an away game and your odds to win the series increases a lot, but you have to win at home

Joel Embiid is the MVP.

Without Embiid the heat scored 106 game one, 119 game two. The Sixers were not very competitive in either game.

With Embiid, the heat score 79. Sixers win by 20

The Sixers aren't a playoff team without Embiid.

He should be the MVP

Holy fuck, most physical 4th quarter I've seen in maybe forever.

Horford spanked Yannis HARD. Smart hammered the rest of em HARD.

Celts pulled down the bucks shorts and spanked they little bottoms for the home crowd in Milwaukee.

Hell of a win. That 4th was Boys against Men.

Celts shot lights out in the fourth.  If you're not going to play any defense, it's gonna be tough to win.   Big win for them although I think the next game will decide who moves on.

I was shocked that the dubs barely won.   Turns out they shot like crap.   Nothing like laying an egg and still pulling out a W.

After a shakey start, looks like round two will be just as interesting as round one.

how to loose a game....

the griz succumbed to the poor shots and jack-a-three...absolutely terrible. call a fucking time out if your players are too inexperienced to run a play or get a quality shot.

i like almost the whole celtics team. god i hate saying that...

Embid, no mvp tonight

jimmy buckets

Terrible game for the Sixers. Embiid was double and triple teamed all night. At times the heat were doubling him when he didn't have the ball. Torn ligaments in his thumb and a busted face but Embiid still went 7-12 and led the Sixers in scoring.

Butler good, it's a shame that the Sixers chose Simmons/Brown over Butler.

>>>i like almost the whole celtics team. god i hate saying that...

I'm sure it hurts.  But they play a good game.  I seem to have fallen under their spell a bit too.

Harden's gotta pick up his balls and get his ego back.

>Butler good, it's a shame that the Sixers chose Simmons/Brown over Butler.

all part of the losing process

^hahahaha

it's still fun.  The process will be remembered.  Every other loser will not...with few exceptions.

Fun seeing the Warriors getting their asses handed to them tonight.

Yannis was Yannis, just phenomenal,,  but how bout dem Celtics ?

Follow up the greatest 4th quarter in team playoff history, with the worst. Talk about snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Fugly 4th

Smart got Holidayed twice in 6 seconds.

The Warriors got good minutes for Moody and Kuminga. Those are the two players that they need if they are to beat Phoenix and then take the ship.
'

It's getting hot in here

Did someone turn up the Heat?

so much for my prediction the Sixers would win it all once they got Harden, Fuckin Embid let me down again.

i was actually watching a possible elimination game between the Lightning and Montreal last night, no hoops

go boltz!

So no one else is watching the HBO series on the Showtime Lakers? Great stuff, awesome casting, love the Larry Bird guy and his racist friends. Jerry West is a nut case, love it

^ yeah philly looked horrible,, lotsa ugly in that series.

Let's see which Celtic team shows up tonight. And lets see if Yannis will be downing vast quantities of cocaine water like he did in game 5. Game 4 by the end of the 3rd quarter he was totally winded, outta gas, holding on to his shorts gasping for air. Fuckin game 5 he's leaping tall buildings n shit for all 4 quarters. WTF

Only one logical explanation - - Cocaine Water

Fuck L A

The only fitting end to the process would be Philly trading Embid and him winning a title year one with the new team

trust me, I'm a browns fan, I know how the best of plans work out

Most Vexed Process

>>>so much for my prediction the Sixers would win it all once they got Harden, Fuckin Embid let me down again.

The thing that irks me is Embid pointing fingers again.  Yeah, Harden looked like shit, but Embid didn't learn his lesson about talking public smack about his partners?   Shitty teammate.  No MVP for you!

Still stickin with Heat Suns

>Fuckin Embid let me down again.<

The man played with a ruptured ligament in his right thumb, his shooting hand, and a fractured orbital bone, and he was double and triple teamed, and still was the Sixers best player.

Embiid is correct... Harden sucked. Doc sucked too

Who is going to hire Sam Cassell?

Atta' boy Dubs.

And whatever one may think of the Warriors, how 'bout that Klay Thompson?

Dude's been through the ringer, twice, and he's ballin'.

Atta' boy Klay.

They're an up & down team, and like all the other teams they have injuries and other issues so there's no way to know how they'll do going forward, but still, on they go...

GW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Boston - Bucks final will be a fun one.   Away team has won the last three.

Yeah buddy there's gonna be some gut wrenching fun today.

There's nuthin like a game 7

The Mavs have sure figured out how to muzzle Chris Paul in this series.  We'll see if he can break loose today.

Two game sevens in one day....love it.

I don't even know what to say about this late game. 40 points with a quarter to go.  What a giant egg.

Damn. I walked in the door about 15 minutes ago and looked at the score, and had to triple-take to make sure I was seeing it correctly.

Anybody see THAT coming?

What the hell happened to the Suns?

So, the Warriors get home court, but are they also getting a scorching hot opponent?

I sure hope Iguodala can play, and there's a chance Payton can be back toward the end of the series, if it goes six or seven games.

Both those guys & Payton in particular have been a huge part of this team, and they're going to need everything they have.

Whatever, Mark Cuban annoys me, so...

GO WARRIORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Evidently there were a few underlying issues with the suns.   Paul playing through an injury.  Booker recovering from an injury.  Ayton - some internal issues.    Still, I think most people are in disbelief.   If it weren't for the late junk time threes, including one at the last second, it would of could have easily been 40 points at the end of the game.

Dubs gotta stay focused and not have their lapses that we've seen.  I like this match up for both teams.  It's gonna get chippy and should be a great series.

2nd game was some kind of weird scrimmage between the globetrotters and the south west school of the blind.

At least the Bucks showed up for game 7, for the 1st half anyway. Yannis' tank was empty for the 2nd although he kept chuckin it up there, he had no chance with them green 3's rainin down.

Go Celts - Beat The Heat

The Celtics are good again, and the Lakers are in shambles?  Red Auerbach is smiling somewhere.

Does Draymond try to take out Luka in Game 1 or 2?

>>>2nd game was some kind of weird scrimmage between the globetrotters and the south west school of the blind.

Perfect description.  At some point they were down so much that they just kept chucking up bad threes in hopes of anything.  It was hard to watch, yet couldn't turn away.

>>>Does Draymond try to take out Luka in Game 1 or 2?

Not sure if he'll take him out but I think he's in his face from the get go.  The one knock on Luka I have is that he's still emotional.   Would be pretty easy to get him riled up.

Pretty funny:

Pat Bev on @GetUpESPN: "CP can’t guard anybody man. Everybody in the NBA know that. You know those cones in the summer that you dribble around? What does the cone do? Nothing. He’s a cone... It’s just that y’all don't want to accept that. Give him the Ben Simmons slander."

I don't think Draymond will be the main defender on Doncic. It will likely be Wiggins, who's a very good defender but really, who can defend that guy? It will be interesting to see if they focus on shutting off the other Mavs and let Doncic try to beat them by scoring 50+ a game, similar to how they played against Jokic & Morant.

Either way, as good as Doncic is, if the Mavericks win the series it will be because of the way they're playing defense right now.

In the regular season games they swarmed Curry and wouldn't let him score. How Poole plays in this series could well be the decider.

The Warriors are going to have to play great defense, make their open shots and try, at least try to not throw the ball away 15+ times a game.

If the Dubs were at full strength, with a healthy Iguodala & Payton I'd say Warriors in 6, but without those guys I say Warriors in 7 (because I'm not going against my team). It should be a good series.

We will see.

GW!

Didn't think they had much of a shot w/o Smart + Horford anyway, but after the gutty 1st half there was a glimmer of hope.

Till that 3rd q, WTF

My Magic get the first pick of this weak ass draft, yea team.

the team of many small pieces and question marks?

If the Warriors can execute consistently at a high level, they can beat any team, but they don't seem to be able to keep their high level of play going from game to game, or even sometimes from quarter to quarter.  Maybe being another level deeper into the playoffs will help them stay more focused, but I think they are more likely bring the ToRtURe (this is what they get for moving just down the street from the Gigantes).

>>>My Magic get the first pick of this weak ass draft, yea team.

Lottery rank day is always the biggest day of the year for Kings fans. The Pistons fans have said they are happy to be picking after the Kings because who ever the Kings pass on will be a future all star. Can't argue with that.

Kings get the #4 pick which everyone was pretty happy about, but just to make sure that glimmer of happiness didn't last Vivek the fearless owner announced that he named his daughter who has a degree in marine biology as Assistant GM of the Kings G League team in Stockton. He isn't as bad as Dolan, but he hasn't given up on reaching the top of the owner incompetence rankings.

Does it make me racist that I'm excited there's finally a superstar white guy in the league? When all is said and done, Luka will be a top 10 all-time player and we'll debate if Bird or him was better.

Steph is having his way with Luka LOL

>>>Does it make me racist<<<

In this world who really knows what's "racist" or not?  I'd say no, but I'm probably considered wrong.

But in the more general context of Jeff's post, Doncic is going to have to win A LOT of big games & multiple championships before he's compared to Bird.

Luca's great, but he's got a LONG way to go for that.

A NICE win tonight by the Warriors. A good team effort, everyone involved, excellent team defense, they made Doncic work HARD for everything, but it won't be that "easy" for the entire series.

Still,

NICE win Warriors!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Um, Nikola Jokic just got his second consecutive MVP award, which makes him the best player in the league regardless of pigmentation.

Bird had a lot more talent around him

Luka reminds me more of Magic Johnson than Bird

Isn't Steph white?

Dubs are a dangerous team and they proved it last night.

Can the Celtics overcome the hole once they are back to full strength?   Potentially.

>>>Bird had a lot more talent around him

DJ, McHale, and Walton all in The Hall. Not many teams these days with four hall of famers. Bird had Tiger Woods type work ethic and just like Tiger destroyed his body and shortened his career.

Unfortunately (for the Warriors) but not surprising based on the way he played last night, it sounds like Doncic was sick yesterday and was up most of last night puking his guts. That would explain the sluggish way he played. I was hoping it was just the W's frustrating him and wearing him down, but this makes more sense, and will likely inspire him to rage when he's feeling better.

Sigh.

GW!!!

Celts tough as nails with all their horses

Now heading back to TD Center

Heat needs to go back to its D or it's over

Is it too early to start the Celtic Heat pregame party ?

Boston's a beast, gonna hunt you down and wear you out.

Summer weather here, potato salad and coleslaw all made. Getting ready to fire up some chicken on the grill. I don't know why tho, it's so fuckin hot outside I could just toss it on the rock wall and it would cook right up.

Hoping for a grueling 7-game series in the east.

And a quick sweep in the west.

I rarely get what I hope for.

But I keep hoping.

GW!

With the right combination of tunes and intoxicants a Saturday nite playoff loss really ain't so bad.

I could see the Heat Boston series going far but Lowry and Butler situation may have some impact.   A lot of fire power on that team.if they are healthy.

Mavs had a hell of a start last game...and still didn't win.   Lance your wish may come true.   Dubs still look a little lackadaisical at times.  Too much talent that they can cruise in most games.

Whats the deal with the mavericks paying over a hundred thousand dollar fines for players on the court during the game causing interference

terrible games.

jack 'em up!

Last nites game was over before it even started. Bookie determined winners ?

I see more issues with the refs in that dubs mavs series than the threes.   Some of the best passing sequencing I've seen in a long time by both teams with 6-7 focused passes that then open up opportunities.    Refs were all over the map.   Always been the issue for the NBA.

Celtics heat series has been a weird one.

Dubs struggling with Baby Jokic

Damn.

Based on the crazy prices I wasn't planning on going to any more of these playoff games, but I just noticed that they released some good standing room spots for tomorrow's game, and since I love playoff sports, and because I have no problem with and actually enjoy Standing Room spots for major sports events, and because the SRO spot for tomorrow was cheaper than a very similar seat I had from the previous round that I had to stand at anyway because I couldn't fit into the seat (based on my extraordinary size) and because I've been sipping some whiskey this evening, I clicked on that damned "Purchase" button that's so easy to click on.

So, I'm going to the BIG GAME tomorrow night in SF!!!!!

WHOOP!

A number of "voices of reason" in my head scolded me just before & after I clicked on Purchase, but FUCK THEM! I'm psyched to be going!!!

One win to The Finals!!!!!!

GO WARRIORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GO WARRRRRRRRRIORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have a good time, Lance.

By the way, have you guys watched Dave Letterman talking with Kevin Durrant on a new episode on Dave's series, "My Next Guest Needs No Introduction"? He's different from what I thought he'd be like. He's funny, silly, gentle and smart, and he knows a lot. And he's a few other things, too. I really enjoyed it.

The one story the press is failing to push is how much better the Celtics are Without Kyrie

Celts win, Yanks win, Sox lose. The trifecta of sports joy

F GS

That silky boy Curry's gonna be cryin uncle after getting a dose of a team that actually plays some D

>>>Celts win, Yanks win,

I'm so confused.  Celtics and Yanks fan?   not possible.

Big win for the Cs.   I guess Miami is pretty beat up.  Gotta hurt for them with Lowry and Butler bruised and Herro out.  Celtics better close out game 6.

Got the love of the Celtics from my Irish dad.

Got the love of the Yankees from rebelling against my entire fuckin family who were all loser Red Sox fans and I couldn't stand hearing about their patheticness any longer.

After 04 when the Sox became Yankees North the whole rivalry lost its meaning.

Celts will end it tonight, then I can't wait to get ahold of them soft weak west coast chum buckets.

<<Celts will end it tonight, then I can't wait to get ahold of them soft weak west coast chum buckets.>>

you mean the team that has advanced to the NBA finals 6 of the last 8 years?

Ha

>>>Got the love of the Yankees from rebelling against my entire fuckin family who were all loser Red Sox fans and I couldn't stand hearing about their patheticness any longer.

That's funny a friend of mine is your Doppelganger. Rebelled against his NY/NJ family by becoming a Red Sox fan.

>>>After 04 when the Sox became Yankees North the whole rivalry lost its meaning.

So after the luxury tax and a new Red Sox owner who was willing to spend as much as the Yankees allowing the Red Sox to field competitive teams the rivalry became meaningless. Got it. Are you a Globetrotters fan too?

>>>That silky boy Curry's gonna be cryin uncle after getting a dose of a team that actually plays some D<<<

There's a lot of merit to that, the Celtics (or the Heat) play relentless defense, which is pretty much how most championship teams in any sport win championships.

The only caveat to that statement is that the Warriors (usually) play excellent defense too, and they should be getting their best defensive player, and one of the best defenders in the league, back for the finals, so we could see some relatively low scoring games.

If Iguodala can play that will be huge for the Warriors, as he brings so much savvy and calm execution to their second unit and is great closing out games as well, he's always in the right place at the right time. But he's also 72 years old so we'll see about that.

At the beginning of the season I didn't think the Warriors would get here, there was so much uncertainty about so many things, so no matter what happens it's great to see them get this far.

All I hope for now is that the games are won on their own merits, that injuries or referee's or fucking COVID doesn't decide things.

GO WARRIORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

^Amen!

Celts are a fucking conundrum, and after last night I may not even watch game 7. Unless I'm somewhere that's got a tv and it just happens to be on.

Play fantastic on the road, play like shit for the home crowd. WTF

But they tend to put up a W after a loss and it's on the road so lets see what happens.

This series, a bookies dream.
