Nature Boy

Forums:

I'm not even a fan and I want to see this.

Is Ric Flair the greatest and most entertaining wrestler of all time?

“Nature Boy” – the “30 for 30” documentary that premieres 10-11:30 p.m. Tuesday on ESPN – certainly makes that argument, while also depicting him as deeply flawed in his personal life.

“In some ways, he transcends the business,” says friend and colleague “Triple H” (aka Paul Levesque, a top WWE executive) late in the film. “His legacy will also be probably what not to do in the business, in some ways. Right? I use Ric as an example sometimes with young talent – of ‘You can have it all and end up in a really precarious spot.’ ”

4. On his obsession with women (he has four ex-wives): “Let me tell you something, if you’re wrestling and you’re in Hutchinson, Kansas, and you’re gonna spend the night there, I’m gonna find something to do. I’m not going through that night by myself.”

8. Flair, on his initial visit to a sports psychologist, back in the 1980s: “(He asked) ‘How much do you drink a day?’ I said, ‘I’ll drink at least 10 beers, and probably five mixed drinks.’ He said, ‘Well, how many days a week do you do that?’ I said, ‘Every day.’ He said, ‘Well, how do you mean every day?’ I said, ‘I work every day. I drink a beer in the car, I get to the hotel and I drink vodka.’ He came out of his chair and (he said), ‘You drink every day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, and you’ve been doing that for how long?’ I said, ‘Well, let me see. It’s 1989, I started in ’72, you do the math. Almost 20 years.’ He said, ‘That’s not possible.’ I said, ‘Oh yeah, it is.’ By the time I got through with that son of a b----, he was laying on the couch and I was on the chair talking to him.”

heard him on mike and mike this am...looking frwd to this 30 for 30 as well....

Triple H is McMahon's patsy. The only reason that he hasn't ended up like the rest of them is that he married Vince's daughter. One of my friends was ECW champ and ended his career in the WWE. His stories are unreal. Completely fucked up industry.

I wish I had cable in order to watch this. Hopefully it'll end up on Netflix at some point...

Could you imagine hang with Ric and Dusty Rhoads after hours? This will be good

you're friends with Justin Credible?

My old boss from Ohio said in high school he saw those guys leaving an arena and they got them to buy a case of beer and hang out in the lot drinking after a match.

I’m betting it was Rob Van Dam. He seemed like a stoner type.

ECW was the best.

Justin 'Portugese Man o War' Credible. Great guy that I've known for 30 years. At 44 his body is beat to shit and like the rest of the talent, he was tossed by the wayside once he wasn't making the McMahon's $$.

He was great.

Watch from about 7:00 on - ECW at its best! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vkJkDtv5Aw

Body slammed on a table -- nothing that a few hundred pain pills a day can't fix. That's a classic match BK, thanks for the link.

Woooooooooooooooooooooooo

Just finished watching it..very emotional towards the end... another well done 30 for 30..

I thought it was really well done. I was impressed with Hogan telling it like it is.

I want to watch this!!!!!

nailed it.

This isn't about my husband at all!

Great documentary! He’s so proud of his daughter. Very touching.

I thought the dude came off as pretty pathetic.

I never got wrestling or the people who loved it.  I always thought Flair was cool though as far as wrestles went, but in this doc (to me at least), he comes off as a full on pathological liar.  I didn't believe anything he said--thought every single thing that came out of his mouth was embellished to the hilt in such a way that it barely resembled what probably actually happened. which I guess shouldn't come as a surprise since that's what wrestling is in some ways and this guy lived and breathed that sport like few, if any, ever have.

But man, I thought he was/is a sorry excuse for a human being having had as many kids as he had and being as shitty a father as he was.

I get it, I get that he has some serious emotional issues and for a guy like him, he lived a pretty amazing life and was great as what he did and who am I to judge but fuck...what an asshole.

I agree - something very fishy about his side of the story. Even the way his "friends" would tell it, seemed like they were holding back.

Guy was definitely good at what he did but lived a life full of denial resulting in many people hurt in his wake. Kind of a douche.

Stream the whole thing here ...

Jerry Garcia's own daughter called him a shitty father at his own funeral.  And he used to have other people tell his girlfriends that it was over. And he died an early death because of his severe drug abuse.

Nobody's perfect.  Just sayin'.

worked a Wrestlemania event and he was highly entertaining

have to watch

Thanks for bringing up Jerry, Thom.

I am sure many here wanted to be reminded or were curious about that, Thom.
