My Morning Jacket 12/29-12/31

Anticipating the band any moment now.

Should be a good one tonight!

Yeah man

Oh to Hear the Voice of an Angel.

But Seriouslee, I did enjoy the set they played @ Peach Fest this past summer, despite the harsh conditions (pouring rain & the entire festival crowded into the small tent).  Was hoping to see them on their own again soon but heard they're taking a hiatus in 2018.  Probably for the better, lots of folks @ the Peach set seemed like Poseurs just there to scream every time Jim screamed (of course that always happens @ festivals no matter what band it is).  They do seem to be attaining that critical mass audience appeal/acceptance at which point they will no longer be the darlings of critics & hipsters, but rather mocked by them, as has happened to the Foo Fighters & U2 before them . . .

I assume no streams?  Assuming this is west coast so just starting now . . .

My Morning Jacket at 1st Bank Center – airing live on SiriusXM's Jam On

Wonderful show tonight. Band went on late but treated us to a monster performance.

At Dawn to open, some old school love with Heartbreakin' Man/Evelyn early in the set. A rare Aluminum Park was a nice surprise. Highlights were a transcendent War Begun, some killer Bowie with Rebel Rebel, and arguably the best Dondante we've ever heard in Colorado.

Jim James didn't sit in with The Revolution, which was disappointing. I honestly wasn't blow away by their set, but still cool to see them.

Looking forward to the next two days. Steam info here:

At dawn opener is perfect to start an epic run, good going on the 1st night heavy dondante too.

this should all pan out quite nicely.

I've heard the revolution feels a little empty live, what with the giant purple elephant not in the room, but am very surprised there was no cross pollination sit ins between their set and mmj's.

not trying to start nuthin, but things might have gone better if Bobby Z was still with us.

jus sayin...

still wouldn't mind seeing a full set list for both bands tonight.

my morning jacket and prince r fucking great

No Run Through

Nice. Thanks, Zooey!

Run Thru was the jam only.

Hmmmmm... doubting myself here. Perhaps there was no Run Thru jam?

I was pretty far out during Dondante and actually didn't notice the band had taken the encore break. Lol

looks like a long set

Twas, Turts.

Band went on @ 9:45, played until 12:30.

Looks like they're doing about 25 songs/night this run.

long live MMJ even though the hiatus is imminent ~~

That's a pretty damn cool lookin show.

Wonder how tonight's going.

And hiatus or no, there's probably a new album coming down the pike at some point next year which will no doubt mean a monster tour eventually

Great show tonight. They opened with Circuital and a dark/light theme with Off The Record, The Dark, The Way That He Sings, and First Light.

Highlights for me were an absolutely monster Master Plan, Easy Morning Rebel w/ full horns, Pictire Of You, and (God help me for saying so), I'm Amazed, which somehow featured an extended outro that burned the fuckin' house down.

State Of The Art (AEIOU) has become a true powerhouse in MMJ's live arsenal. Also, they played a full Run Thru tonight, so nevermind what I said about that one they didn't play the night before. That was the disruption of the space/time continuum talking.

Aww, how was that Marvin Gaye cover?

i love that song

It was beautiful E. Very soulful reading from Jim, and the horns were outstanding. Like A Rolling Stone was appropriately bitter, and Purple Rain absolutely slayed.

I'm not really familiar with Simon and Garfunkel, so America didn't resonate for me personally, but the crowd was definitely into it.

Thanks for the reviews.  I need to do my homework on these guys, for sure.

Yes did a great rockin' cover of America from one of their first albums. I wonder if that's the version MMJ did.

I'm not familiar with Yes' version either, Lance. Can't confirm either way.

Jacket actually did a new song 'The First Time' which I haven't ever seen live. I thought it sounded pretty good.

Well Mark, did it rock or was it mellow? Of course it could have rocked and not been the Yes version, but it would be very cool if it was.

BTW, I have some friends who made their way out there for this run and they're having a great time.

Take care of them please, and HNY!!!

Glad to hear your friends are joining us in Colorabrah, Lance. Great run so far; tonight has the makings for an outstanding night of music.

Still a lot of top flight Jacket available; Dancefloors, Nashville to Kentucky, The Bear, Gideon, Victory Dance, Strangulation, Tonight I Want To Celebrate, Touch Me 1&2 etc.

Really, really hoping for the ultra rare Welcome Home tonight. I've been chasing that one for what feels like forever. Tonight is the night!

Big covers-heavy dance party last night. Happy New Year!

Phenomenal looking second set!

Any Sirius captures up on the archive yet?

Listening to video on You Tube right now of 12/31 1st set.  I think this is the only band in the world I can absolutely LOVE and HATE all @ the same time . . .

Broadcast captures of NYE, wish the other 2 nights would surface but if they ain't up yet lord knows if they ever will be :/

I gotta say, the New Years Midnight set is almost as Awful as Phish's.  Almost . . .

I've heard a lot of criticism of the NYE show in general, but I think people are missing the point. It was a dance party. That's all it needed to be.

If you want a 25 minute Dondante, they delivered that on Friday night when the venue was half full with hardcore fans. If you want a raging Masterplan, they did that Saturday night when the venue was full(er), but still mostly stacked with the hardcores.

Personally, I enjoyed the NYE show. They did a nice job of mixing in moments for the core fanbase (Magic Bullet ftp, a solid Gideon, a massive Phone Went West) with the funkier, dance-centeric cuts and cover songs.

By MMJ standards, I'm not saying the NYE show was anything close to a classic; but they delivered a solid show and it was unquestionably a fantastic party.

I'm just going by listening to it as I'm on the computer/ eating/ cooking dinner/ doing housework/ etc. & I barely am learning the songs, every once in a while "oh I recognize this one".  I always take my time getting to know a band nowadays, as once I do know a band well, I get bored pretty quickly (I'm in that space w/Mule & Panic by now, & certainly so w/ex GD band members & GD cover bands & the GD songbook in general).

I need to make some time to hear that massive 'phone'

newsflash: Sideshow + Mule = OVer!

Truly a new year for us all

Well Mule's New Year's shoe was very Enjoyable for me, & when I think of Very White Hipsters Dancing to MMJ, I picture that video of me getting my Autistic Twerk on whilst tripping balls on synthetic Chinese bath salt Molly.

^ lol, post the link!
