My last show, one year ago, almost missed the anniversary. PHIL!!!

Forums:

March 1st 2020 was the last live show I've seen.

It was a GOOD one.

Phil and some (good) friends, in the little room. And ol' Alligator as well...

Remembering now, Phil had played a few shows in February, warming up after a long recovery from back surgery, preparing for his BIG 80th birthday shows back east. The February shows had all been very nice, very good one-set shows. Phil getting back in the groove, looking & playing good.

That night, one year ago tonight, it was supposed to be a one-set show again, when after a groovy Bertha Phil suddenly said, "We're gonna' take a short break." FAR OUT!

I always love a break.

After coming back from a lovely Marin evening break, they go into a 21+ minute version of Birdsong.

That's what I pay my money for.

LONG LIVE PHIL LESH!!!!

LONG LIVE THE GRATEFUL DEAD!!!!

I had backstage passes to Phil's BDay and the next (or previous) night, was still planning to head down as of that Tuesday morning. Then the lockdown. Stupid covid.

The end of the Before times

Saw DSO last summer at a drive-in show in NH, it was amazing! Everyone there was saying we hope they keep doing drive-in shows once Covid is gone, it's so awesome to have your car and all your shit right there. About 800 people in attendance, 100% safe.

I saw small, outdoor local shows roughly 18 out of 20 straight weekends from May through November, and have still been catching at least one show per weekend most weekends since then. Local brewpub has the band inside a garage with a clear door so we can see them, puts the speakers outside, and people dance around fire pits, skate on the skating rink. Few weeks ago it was 14 degrees, windy as hell, wind chill close to zero, place was fucking packed, solid 100 people from 4-8 for the full show. Amazing.

"Packed" being outdoors, mostly masked and quite safe. Not perfect, I hung out on the perimeter, but even around the fires it wasn't all that crowded, and outside clearly is so much safer.

Look at that, a Poz sighting.

Nice.

Hope all is well.

Yes, good to see you, Poz.

I think my last show was my friends The Brewkats playing a a local winery in the Fall of 2019, but I can't really remember.
