My Kid is taking The Music of The Grateful Dead class at UCSC

Forums:

I dreamed of this day. He has attended two classes so far. The first quiz is online for him to take. I sent him back from Spring Break with Dead Base 50 and a greater knowledge archive.org and a few audio books in his audible account although i am dying to take the quiz/s and tests for him.

A future Prof !  A.chip off the old block.

Diggit.

it's wonderful that he has the interest. You've obviously given him a lot of musical support, and he knows where it's at. Go kid!

He is my show going buddy now. Most recently The Mule at The Fox it was his first Warren experience. He has seen DeadCo his current favorite 5 times 1 Phil & Friends , 1 JRAD, 1 Wolf Bros w The Pack only and 1 EPIC show at The Frost w Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros w The Pack and the Stanford Symphony Orchestra. He is starting to put up some stats lol.

There were a couple of semesters where I put more time into studying the Grateful Dead than into my actual class work.  Good for junior that he's at least earning some credits.  Will there be an Acid Test?

BTW the Kid's name is Max he was at 03-04 New Years shows in mommy;s womb and born 5 weeks later.

Max is one of my favorite names, for no reason at all. Maybe now there's a reason.

Go Max!

Full legal name Maximum

I've had three Max's work for me.  One was Maxwell, the second was Maxton, and the third was Maximillian.

He is simply Max i like the one syllable name.

He is the born in 2004 generation of kids who are actually 20 who have found the music and get into it and now he is studying the band. Its all really cool .

I heard all the cool kids are into Phil's Chair.

Max got 100% on the first quiz  a multiple choice test with the only real band member question w substance on Phil's style of playing with 4 choices. the other question I liked was what studio was the first album recorded at Studio 54 was a choice and two LA Studios and Pacific High Studio. The other questions were rudimentary like name all the band members and what instrument they play, etc.

Extra credit if he knows who played what on Box of Rainwink

I hope "Anthem to Beauty" is required watching.

My wife was one class short of graduating and ended up taking that course to graduate UCSC. It was a full circle moment since she never graduated high school partly because of too many shows.

Go UCSC Banana Slugs!

Grate picture Howard. We have class today I'm so excited.

They began studying Anthem In The Sun in yesterdays class. There is also a discussion on Dark Star that starts Thursday.

1/8/66 The Fillmore Acid test was also a discussion which was exactly 13 years before my first show 1/8/79.

Tomorrow's topic:

Dead-themed dog names

really nice picture Howard -- thanks

^ Yes, beautiful photo.

Hopefully, there is a class celebration where everyone brings a lot delicacy to share.  Grilled Cheese Sadwiches, Fatty Egg Rolls, Kind Veggie Burritos, Rasta Pasta.  Ice cold microbrews 1 for $3 or 2 for $5.  Nitrous balloons earn extra credit.
