My Bluegrass Heart - Telluride House Band

Forums:

The lineup: Bela Fleck banjo, Sam Bush mandolin, Jerry Douglas dobro, Stuart Duncan fiddle, Edgar Meyer bass, Bryan Sutton guitar. Holy shit!

House Band at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival on tour now. An all star lineup of virtuosos who actually play together well, and have been for decades. Bucket list stuff.

I'm excited to see the show on Sunday 12/12 at UC Theater in Berkeley. Never been to that venue.

Tix for T-Ride go on sale this morning. 11 EST get in line. 12 EST tix go on sale.

Holy shit! They're touring? I'd travel for that. Good gawd! And Happy Birthday Mr. Tofu Head. That's a helluva birthday show right there.

UC Theater doesn't have the best sight lines (it's an old movie theater).  I hang out near the back of the floor/pit, though the front of the first tier is nice if you get there early enough.

I may go if tickets are still available.

Yeah, but will they be able to ask "How many of you have been here for all four days"?

Looks cool though!  ... any more info / link to traveling houseband?

I just got online and saw their short tour schedule. A few dates in California, one in Reno this Saturday, and Carnegie Hall in NYC later. Wish I'd a known sooner. Have a great time! Maybe they'll be some recordings.

wow, hmm...

I wonder if Sam is bring that band to this free bluegrass fest in Florida

After Fleck finally gets his banjo tuned, this number takes off big time. Wow. I'm going to be saying Wow a lot at he show. My face got melted watching the video!

Despite not generally being a big Fleck fan (he's great, but he's usually just not my thing) when I saw this advertised I was excited to go, but when I saw it was going to be over $100 I balked.

These days I have to be more selective about what I spend money on than I used to be, and despite the fact that we don't get much top-quality bluegrass around here, this was one I decided to pass on.

I'm sure it will be a smoker though.

Well, it's much more than just a Bela Fleck show, and much less expensive than a trip to Telluride! I hesitated for awhile before buying $100+ tickets, considering waiting until day of show, but then pulled the trigger in advance because I don't want personal laziness, heavy rain or a sellout to become a reason not to go to the show. This way, I'm committed and my mind is already set to drive to and from Berkeley, even if it is raining hard. Hopefully not another "bomb cyclone", because that sounds scarier than just a rainstorm.

The show in Berkeley was fabulous. 2 sets and a couple of encores. Jaw dropping shit! All 6 players are amazing. Some of the best acoustic music I've ever seen.

Not just bluegrass, but there was some jazzy stuff, old Appalachian country blues, interesting stuff from My Bluegrass Heart and other bela originals, and a great John Hartford song that I've heard at Leftover Salmon shows.

Bryan Sutton, who knows his way around a guitar as well as anyone, sang Tony Rice's Cold On The Shoulder, perhaps a tribute to an inspiration. Bela dedicated the tour to Tony rice and Chick Corea. There was also a duel fiddle song, Sam Bush, having fun moving from mandolin to join Stuart Duncan.

Of course, Bela was great on banjo, and it's always a supreme treat to see Jerry Douglas play dobro. That certain twangy thing, it resonates, man! The biggest applause of the night went to the great bass player Edgar Meyer, who awed the crowd with and without his bow. A musical feast, and a damn good time, it was!

I went to the show last night and it was a smoker! Those guys were phenomenal. Each a giant in the idiom and the sum of the parts was definite greater than the whole. We had a great time. Sam Bush was, as always, the most animated guy in stage. Jerry Douglas topped on Dobro, a master of the instrument and second only to the late Mike Auldridge. It was wonderful seeing Bela playing straight up Banjo. Edgar Meyer played the upright like nobody else. Stuart Duncan rolled it up on fiddle and guitar as well accompanying Brian Duncanon guitar. A truly great show!

well just dropped over a bill...hope it's worth it!

its at a very nice theater, but last time was there for dave rawlings, the sound in balcony was crap.

went orchestra...acoustic...yeah.

The show was worth every penny I spent, and every mile I drove in the wind and rain. I'm still buzzing and glowing two days later!

I wouldn't say that just to blow sunshine up your black screen asses. It's the real deal.

Well there's ONE ticket left for Tempe AZ for Saturday but I won't do that. But check out the lineup for Carnegie Hall on Jan 9th. Good golly!  And I have relatives in NY.

Oh, My, Fucking, God...... I want to be in That Room....♤♤♤♤♤♤♤♤♡♤♤♤♤♤ ~} )

Yeah, I'm looking at flights. Haven't been back to NY since 2005. Got miles to burn.

I have two extras 3rd row center for the Tucson show on Sunday.

Oh man, that's really tempting.

Good show last night in San Diego.   After settling in our seats, I looked at the ticketmaster web site for the show, and saw that NONE of the Orchestra Pit tickets had been sold, yet they were unavailable just a few days prior.  So I snagged 2 front row centers, and upgraded myself.   Guy sits down next to me a few minutes later, he and his wife had done the same thing.

Looks like only a core band on tour

weird alfalfa, i would have maybe gone to sd but there were hardly any seats avail.

anyone got a good dinner pre-game recommendation for LA show? Left at lunch as not to take 3 hrs to get here on a Friday.

Looking forward to seeing them at DelFest next year!

That "core band" is the "creme de la creme" in and of itself. But the Carnegie Hall crew is OFF THE CHARTS INSANE! Wonder if COVID in NYC will shut it down?

Praying for a stream, but I think with that many artists, the business side of rights and royalties will be too complicated.

great show last night.

2 sets!  musicians were in great spirits and having a good time.

EDGAR MEYER is INCREDIBLE.

he alone was worth going. best stand up bass player on earth hands down. great night in LA. ate at Cole's french dip place. Great OLD historic vibe and place.

i guess the theater was charlie chaplin's joint?

The Ryman show on 1/7 will be on a paid ($22) video stream thru Mandolin.com.   They did RockGrass and Telluride Bluegrass and quality was great:

THANK YOU SO MUCH for the head's up, Eddie. Just saved me a bunch of bucks and possible COVID exposure. You just made my day!

A bunch of decent, recent vids on da yootoobses.

Git some.

Went to a music party the other night and found out two friends have tickets to Carnegie Hall. Landmark concert. Hope COVID doesn't shut it down.

Thanks, Bluest. My friend said sugarmegs has shows, too.
