Mormons v. Mexican Drug Cartels

Nine American citizens (including six children) from a Mormon community in Mexico were killed yesterday:

They say it could have been a case of mistaken identity and usually the cartels are careful not to kill Americans, but there has been a long standing animosity between the American Mormon communities in Mexico (many related to Mitt Romney) and the cartels.  Here is a Vice News documentary about it I saw not too long ago.  Its from 2012, but lays out the interesting story of how the communities were founded and their standoff with the cartels:

And here is a general overview of the Mormon colonies in Mexico, which were founded in the late 1800s as a refuge for polygamy practicing Mormons, including Romney's peeps.
