More police asset forfeitures -Trump making america free

Forums:

I would love to hear the conservative rational for this, and before you say but Obama -  I will fully concede that liberals suck on this issue too, but at least they don't pretend to be the party of getting the government out of peoples lives.

Right wing rag

Ann Coulter's tampons ?

It's been going on for years under all administrations.  Trying to place the blame for this on a particular party is ridiculous.

There is only one party working to expand it

This week, Attorney General Jeff Sessions plans to release a directive ordering an expansion of the federal government's use of civil asset forfeiture. He also said he'd undo an Obama administration order that prohibited local authorities from using the federal system to sidestep restrictive state laws.

^true, but Sessions wants to increase their use...

"We hope to issue this week a new directive on asset forfeiture — especially for drug traffickers,” Attorney General Jeff Sessions said in his speech to the National District Attorney’s Association in Minneapolis. “With care and professionalism, we plan to develop policies to increase forfeitures.”

"before you say but Obama"

"under all administrations"

Pathetic

 Lol

There is only one party working to expand it

On face value that is true. The truth is both parties, when they were in power, increased the use of it until the Obama administration. Thankfully some restrictions have been happening recently, in states both blue and red. The civil forfeiture statutes are so bizarre as a whole. One that comes to mind is one in New York City. If you are cited for drunk driving your car is automatically seized and sold for profit immediately, sometimes in less than a week. If you have a loan on the car, tough crap. You still owe the lender and you  no longer have the car. You get nothing even if you are proved innocent in court somewhere down the line. I remember seeing a case somewhere down south in which a person sold some drugs to another who was a police informant. A sale of $100 worth of drugs caused the seller to have his cars, homes and business seized and sold. All before a conviction. That person had no recourse.
