The current Cicada 3301 cryptography puzzle involves the coordinates of the Mojave Phone Booth, which, of course, is gone now and the phone number simply attaches of a party line. 

 

I grew up in Lancaster and we would take filed trips out to the MNP and Devil's Punch bowl and the Poppy Reserves quite a bit.

(And somewhat related to Cicada 3301 is Tengri137 if you really want your mind blown.)
