The best cough medicine i ever had was from my grandmother, who "got it" from the state pharmacy she worked at; 3 ingredients in this order: alcohol, codeine phosphate, water. 1 tablespoon and you weren't coughing or coherent. Grandma always had the good shit.

My great-grandmother got addicted to morphine through patent medicine.

This became known to me when my mother announced to the fam I was "on the pot".

Granny told me about becoming a " morphine eater" trying to scare me straight.

Sorry, Granny.

When I was growing up, there was a small bottle of paregoric, which is a tincture of opium, in the family medicine cabinet. My mom would dispense a few drops of that bitter magic elixir to end vomiting and related GI woes.

Parapectolin for the runs! It was Paregoric (tincture of opium) with other stuff. Off the shelf too at the time.

One dose, no shits, and slept better than a baby!

Then bayer realized they could make millions(billions now) by putting aspirin into pills.

The end.
