Commando with Arnold Schwarzenegger had the biggest body count by a single character I have seen (not including Luke Skywalker blowing up the Death Star).
Many more if you add the radio shows. Probably my favorite series on XM Classic Radio. William Conrad was Dillon then. He later played Cannon on TV.
"William Conrad (September 27, 1920 – February 11, 1994) was an American World War II fighter pilot, actor, producer, and director whose career spanned five decades in radio, film, and television, peaking in popularity when he starred in the detective series Cannon (1971–1976).
A radio writer and actor, he moved to Hollywood after his World War II service and played a series of character roles in films beginning with the film noir The Killers (1946). He created the role of Marshal Matt Dillon for the radio series Gunsmoke (1952–1961) and narrated the television adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle (1959–1964) and The Fugitive (1963–1967)." From Wikipedia
The show writing was amazing. Very real. People(men, women and kids) died. No happy ending for every show. Fairly "real". Good stuff.
Actually, the first few seasons of tv used the radio scripts. You can download them from archive or listen via the Old Time Radio app. The TV versions of the radio scripts are pretty close, but it's interesting to see the subtle differences. Typically, the TV renditions are a bit more "sanitized around the edges".
You could almost always tell when he was about to kill someone, because he'd first warn them "not to be a fool" (and draw).
How many people did Chester kill? Nowhere near as many, but not insignificant ... although probably not nearly as many people as he allowed to escape from jail.
