you ever go? I didn’t realize there was a week of preliminary activities

https://golfweek.com/2019/04/05/golf-heidi-ueberroth-augusta-national-si...

Ueberroth joins Diana Murphy, Darla Moore, Condoleezza Rice, Ginni Rometty and Ana Botín as the club’s lone female members.

I guess women can just go wherever the hell they want now!

16th hole is live right now.

Players are skipping balls across the pond.

High humidity this week. Gonna be sweaty.

A good caddie will keep the grips tacky.

Tiger Woods will win.

If he doesn't win, Rory will.

It's funny, before I even checked this thread I thought of Rory as I was clicking on the thread...I was watching the late night commentary on the golf channel a few weeks ago, around the time when Rory won the Players, anyways they were talking about who the players on tour actually thought was the most "pure" talent, it was Rory, he's the most gifted player in the world, to whatever extent he can manifest that into victories or green jackets...that has yet to be determined.  I'll go ahead and call it right now, Rory wins.

...by the way, I'm a huge Phil fan, I love Phil more than you do!  I met Phil once, on the 18th at the Memorial, we actually had discussion...those were the days!  I made it home from a music festival in time to see Phil win the Open, they sometimes refer to it as the greatest Open victory ever, but to watch Phil navigate the delicate curvatures of the earth still awake from the night before was a memorable experience!

     Rory wins by 3

Kind of a funny story with these film clips, I was at a Phil Lesh show in Connecticut...super stylie evening, Phil absolutely brought it!  Anyways...I kind of drifted off a bit & found myself alone in a motel room the next day.  I woke up to a small amount of bourbon in a flask shaped bottle of Wild Turkey 101 on the dresser.  I made my way to the front desk, they looked at me rather strangely, told me I had already paid for the room, and called me a cab.

The taxi showed up, I was able to score a 6 pack of Sierra Nevadas on the way to the train station.  The cool thing about the trains near NYC is you are allowed to drink openly...so I'm drinking the last of the bourbon on the train, striking up conversation, LOVING IT!!!!!

All of the sudden, I'm in New York City, which is wonderful, as it's about as great a town as there is...anyways, I hop on the subway to 72nd & Broadway, I climb the stairs...at that point, I had already finished off the bourbon, I only had the Sierra Nevadas in a brown paper bag.  For some reason, the brown paper bag was wet...I reached the top of the stairs, went to the curb, at that very moment, I was almost killed by a city bus, like "near death experience" almost killed.  At that very moment, for some reason one bottle of beer separated from the others and smashed into 173 pieces.

I'm a little obsessive, so I had to make sure every last piece of glass was picked up from the street, or else I wouldn't have been able to enjoy the evening...so I picked up every last piece of glass that I could determine was a piece of glass.  I was hoping to be able to wash my hands at the theater, but it was so early that the theater was closed, until a guy came by and almost like a telepathic wavelength was holding the door for me to enter.

So I walked in like I owned the place...I immediately went downstairs to the bathroom so I could wash my hands, while doing so I end up in a lengthy conversation with an older gentleman that worked there about Bagger Vance and "finding your swing".

When I went back upstairs I figured I'd just go back outside and look for a ticket, but when I arrived at the top of the stairs I noticed Phil playing bass behind the door, so...I opened the door, and sat in a seat.  They played Eyes of the World > King Solomon's Marbles > Stronger Than Dirt > King Soloman's Marbles > Eyes of the World for a sound check, honestly, it was one of the absolute great moments of my life, it felt like a private concert, in just about my favorite venue, one of my absolute favorite spots.

After the sound check I became thirsty and wondered how I could make it to the corner, so I walked up to a lady at the front door and asked her if it would be ok if I stepped out for a few minutes, she said that'd be fine.

So I quickly scored a bottle of bourbon & a bag of herb, and went back to the door, they weren't even letting people in at that point, but I was gestured in.

So now I'm completely jazzed, living a dream, thrilled!!!!!  so, I'm hanging with one of the guys from the soundboard, when all of a sudden there's a "backstage meeting", so, at this point, I figure "why not attend the backstage meeting?", so I go with my new friend to the backstage meeting.  Then, after the meeting, everyone disperses...and I'm left there, by myself, backstage.

So there's a stairway, I climb up it...when I get to the top of the first flight of stairs it was so silent, you could hear a pin drop...so I wander to a room with an open doorway, there's a huge catered food extravaganza, the only person in the room was Phil, eating a cheese and cracker, we were the only two people on that floor, so he glanced my way and I said something to the effect of "Phil, I hope I'm not disturbing you, I just wanted to take a moment and tell you what a profound impact you've had on my life...you probably don't remember, but we met at the banquet after the last acoustic show at the Berkeley Community Theater, thank you!  It was at that point Phil put his hand on my shoulder, and squeezed my shoulder firmly, looked me right in the eyes and said "I want to thank you, for supporting us all these years!" I said "God bless you Phil", he said "God Bless you too".

JFC Bryen do you need to take a big shit in every thread

Ricky for $2000 Alex

Alex is the name of my bookie

Come on Bucky, you know that's what "Bry" does.

Sprays the whole Zone with diarrhea, hoping something will stick.

Pathetic.

Most likely also cheats at golf like his hero Trump.

Yup you’re right local, I should know better.

As for the tournament, while it would be great to see Tiger win, I’ll take anyone as long as it’s not Hao-Tong Li

Good golf today and the ugliest hat ever seen.

Who had the ugliest hat?

That's a sweet hat if it weren't for the swoosh in the front.

the hat looks better today in white with blue

Tiger stepped on by idiot security guard!

Doesn't feel like the Viva vibe is very strong on golf these days.

For those following, this tourney is setting up to be an all timer!   Talent is through the roof!  Big names!

If Tiger made half of his missed outs inside ten feet the last two days, he would have a big lead.

Weekend will be good.

I've actually entered the lottery for tickets more than once -- I'll never get in. It's on my bucket list of experiences, oddly enough.

>>>>High humidity this week. Gonna be sweaty.

yeah speaking of that, the weather is going to be awful tomorrow but in the grand tradition of the Masters, they always vow to do whatever they can to not play into Monday and this tournament will be no different.

due to the fact that the weather will be bad late in the day they are going to start the round earlier. also, they are going to start golfers off at BOTH the 1st and 10th holes. also, instead of foursomes they will play with threesomes. The foursomes will meet up at their tee off time and draw straws. the golfer with the shortest straw is DQ’d. also, they are letting in 10,000 people for free, to make sure things are lively that early in the morning.

This is definitely going to be a Masters to remember, and not just for the comically easy set-up and overly-friendly greens on this hallowed course, but for the set-up tomorrow, which I talk about above ^^^^

Climate change is real.

eh, let’s not get crazy

Dude, watch the Masters. Quit posting links to music that isn't Dave Loggins.

TY Dostoyevsky - today is all about TOY-GAH as Frank Nobilo says

Molinari was clutch on that front 9.

^ the ole "ice water in veins" as they say....didnt flinch last year, dont expect him to today....rickie making a late run....great wknd for Augusta

Wow....

Wait, what?

I just turned it on and it's over???

What a burn.

I blame Trump.

Pretty epic outcome!

Wow!  Tiger’s jubilation was a beautiful thing.

What a day! There’s so much to say but the moment that stands out to me right now is the tee shot on Redbud, the par 3 16th, where he shot to within a foot.

First of all, the shivers we all felt were VERY SIMILAR to when Jack won his last Masters in 1986, having not won a major in six years. Anyone who was watching who had a pulse had the shivers when that ball finally settled on the green. You could see when he went striding from the tee box towards the green for his tap in, his nipples were rock hard under his traditional Sunday-afternoon Stanford Cardinal shirt, that the old Tiger was back.

Truly an amazing sports story and a reminder to anyone out there that even if you hit rock bottom that you can overcome your obstacles and play golf (or whatever you do) again.

So happy that Molinari choked too.

medaloffreedom3.jpg

He's gonna look hella pimpin at the next champions dinner.

Tiger feels good.

Why bump a three year old thread instead of starting a fresh one?

Let's Go Tommy Fleetwood!

 >>>Why bump a three year old thread instead of starting a fresh one<<<

Knotesau is an iconoclast.

I assumed it had something to do with frugality and recycling.

^^^^ or composting, given all those grass clippings

Why not bump a three year old thread? That's style

Tiger was limping around today. Course was harder to walk after rain yesterday.

>>>Why bump a three year old thread instead of starting a fresh one?

I see nothing wrong. This didn't have much meat on the bone. Maybe it just needed to marinate a few.

3yrs ago...

I drove through Augusta yesterday on I-20 and saw some trees that had been mangled by a tornado that had come through the day prior. Pretty crazy to see what wind can do to 80 foot trees on the side of the freeway. I would not have wanted to be in a car during that storm.

Scottie couldn't increase his lead. Cam Smith to has a good chance to win tomorrow.
