Magpie Salute, Paramount Theater, Huntington, NY - 8/13

Forums:

Anyone else going to see the Magpie Salute at the Paramount in Huntington Long Island tonight?

White Russians with lots and lots of ice is my go-to beverage there, since all they serve is alcohol.

This is going to Rock a bit.

Will be there..9th time seeing them and they've only gotten better ..

You can tell me about seeing them in "London"....maybe there....

Have a great time. I wish I could stomach that lead singers voice but it basically ruins what I've dl'ed and listened to. Glad to see mff's Smoke Signals making the set list, hopefully Just Let It Go makes it into the magpie live repertoire as well (if it hasn't already). Just saw that Exit has been played which is a rocker.

Will be in a black Woodstock sessions shirt, say hello..Hogg was light years better the other night in Jersey than at The Gramercy and London... they're absolutely ripping it..Pastoral skipped last night in Silver Springs; if precedence holds, could be in for one hell of an opener tonight..

Thanks for tipper on what a download would end up like.

I do like the album it's pretty cool. Which I only listened to once, to keep tonight fresh & new.

Cool shirt. I just heard of the Woodstock sessions.

I don't always use a cane, but tonight I will. If I'm lucky, I will be in a chair by the stage.

I will have a black Jerry Douglas Band (Van Tour) (or Tye Dye)shirt on, I'll wave my cane in air if I see you.

Hogg Heaven! UK sounds awesome, Rick!

Ok, it's very dark blue shirt, sorry about that.

I think the cane might be a bigger tip-off than the shirt to find you..ha!! Will definitely say hello, and talk some Ian Hunter as well..

BTW.. VW Mule's recording from last night's Silver Springs show might be the best pull of a magpie show yet..

I just dl'ed that show and plan on checking it out later today, thanks for the heads up.

Rick, if I remember correctly you've posted about being a big fan of several bands started by brothers (TBC, Kinks) who grew to pretty viciously hate each other over the years. It's too bad but not really surprising if you think about spending that much time with a sibling after you've grown up. I hope the Brothers Robinson will  have a reconciling at some point but CR may have burned all of those tbc relationships beyond repair, especially Gorman.

I like listening to those two winter 2002 CR/MFF shows every so often, they seem like such fun and loose shows. Without that original tbc breakup from 2001-2005 (so very needed, thanks but no thanks Audley Freed) we never would have had that glorious 2005/2006 revival. Loved the 'Marc Faxin' Ford' play on the MFF nickname when he quit after '06 Red Rocks (luckily I attended that Amorica laden last show).

Those Malibu Inn shows never get old..I have enjoyed both the Brothers' non Crowes related stuff, but definitely lean a lot more toward RR's material, but still catch very local CRB shows..the rift has gotten real nasty, hopefully they realize life is short and at least get the relationship as family sorted first even if it's just a tiny bit..let's see the $$$ dangled for the SYMM 30th reunion...Pastoral/Words You Throw Away was  dropped last night, has happened twice this tour where they've then opened the next night's show with the previous night's dropped tune (wiser time and walk believer walk were the other two).. that would be a doozy..

I saw that they have played Words You Throw Away, I think that was only done once or twice in the early 90's? Gonna have to check crowesbase on that, hopefully its still up as it's been a while since I've visited that site. Pastoral would be great to hear as well, probably equally as rare. These guys definitely seem to be going much deeper into the BC catalogue than the crowes ever did.

The setlists have been insane and yes they're digging deep ..they played  bitter, bitter you and the fear years last week..

Wow! These guys can bring it big and large.

I'm starting to like the Paramount Theater in Huntington.  They had me go to some really nice velvet roped area to the front left of the stage and got me a nice chair.

Rick comes over immediately and kindly introduces himself. Nice to meet you Rick!  Great people! Knows good music. Like Magpie!

Great concert and I'll seem them again as soon as I can. Did I hear these guys are coming back to the Paramount in November?

They played a bunch Black Crows tunes, better then them. The Faces "Gasoline Alley" and the expected "Fearless" from Pink Floyd.

I'm a newbie to these guys, but I am now a fan of Mark Ford for sure. He doesn't over, or underplay. Plays perfectly, really.

I thought the Magpie Salute & Chris Robinson sounded out of this world tonight.

PS- The crowd, thier fans are the coolest and most respectful peoeple I've seen at a concert this year. By far.

Go Magpie Salute!

Was nice to meet you as well..and it's Rich not Chris-- ha! ...  dug deep for Miserable and Last Time Again tonight...fun show, really good crowd..

Sorry, I'm toast.  Rich would be pissed.

>>Was nice to meet you as well.

Thank you, Rick. I'll see you at King Crimson.

( You know, if a Magpie show does get added to the Paramount, it looks lke it would be on 11/18.  I have birthday party to go to & couldn't make it on that particular date)

Glad you guys got a good show. I listened to some of vwmule's recording of the 8/12 show and they sound really good on what I heard. Glad Rich and Marc are back doing their thing together.

I saw Lettuce at the Paramount last summer and I thought the venue was pretty nice, although the parking situation near the venue wasn't too good.

Thanks a lot.  I really appreciate it.

Yeah the parking isn't so good.  There is usually a spot behind the bank next to the Paramount (formerly IMAC)

It's actually less congested at the Westhampton and Boulton Theaters.

Thanks for posting some pics as well, I forgot there is a third guitarist in the band. Not sure why they need him. Sven is rocking out in that first photo and Rich looks like his usual happy self. I miss hearing Marc Ford play Black Crowes music so I'd see these guys if they were playing near me. These guys definitely sound way better than Jackie Greene or Audrey Freed era Crowes.

You're welcome Across. I'm not sand bagging, those are the best photographs I had taken. Maybe one more of just Marc Ford.
