Miss Trudel, or whatever his name was.

I remember Troodle, but I don't see the connection. Didn't Zippy stay with him for a while?

>>> I remember Troodle, but I don't see the connection. <<< Could it be because he spread the beauty of using letter forms and color on the Zone?

He and I are friends and I treasure the inspiration he shared early in my colorizing the black screen with letter and number forms, which I've always loved. One of the reasons I was excited about teaching math when I did was because of the "shapes" of numbers.

And no, I don't remember that Zippy stayed with him (and his family). He might have, though. They did meet up for coffee, etc., a lot in NYC some years ago.

Good group of quality Zoners here.

Wow. A rare Foghorn siting.

Still waiting to hear back from you, JR. Check your spam folder?

Yep. Just did.

Hey Mike - I hope you are well these days and doing plenty of exercise and gardening!

 - your old classmate,

BT

(Large print for old folks like us!)

I'm a fan. Hats off to cool cat.

Stay gold, Pony.

Hey, Bob. Long time, no zone. I took a black screen hiatus for a few years and just started posting again a couple of months ago. So how's your pandemic going?

I got visited by our old friend Bob Riley about a year ago. He was driving up to Napa from a wedding down near San Diego and stopped by for a lunch visit. I was amazed at how much he now resembles his dad, but then again, I look a lot like my grandpa on my dad's side these days and behave more and more like my grandmas in ways I won't discuss in a public forum.

And speaking of LARGE FONTSjudit, I remember Troodle's use of big type and how he got fancy with punctuation, but not so much his use of colors. Maybe I'm just a little blind like that sometimes?

Good email chatting with you today, JR. There's something about gardening and gardeners that cuts right through all the other noise of life. Let it grow, greatly grow, wide and clear.

Happy Birthday, Mike!

Happy birthday to you too, Joe. Mine's in September. When's yours?

october..

September? My apologies. :)

Every morning I wake up is like a resurrection, so there's really no apology needed, but thanks.

Hey Mike - Good to hear ya.

How's my pandemic going?   It's pretty ugly out there, though my geographic area has done well, in spit of

our lack of leadership.  I can say that I'm looking forward

to a new administration.  I was saying the other day that these days, it's like having a 12 year old for a president.

However, yesterday I realized it was more like having George Castanza:

"Remember Jerry, It's not a lie if you believe it!"

Been doing a bunch of gardening this year, and landscaping, playing guitar/harp, stuff like that, plus a lot of hiking and walking.

Glad the weather is warm.  High summer here now, is a nice change.

Are you teaching these days?  On-line, I would guess?

>>>One of the reasons I was excited about teaching math when I did was because of the "shapes" of numbers<<<

You were on drugs, weren't you?

>>>it's like having a 12 year old for a president<<<

You shouldn't insult 12 year olds like that.

Or George Costanza either.

Carry on.

cool fonts and the creative fonting thereof is cool

Lance, do you mean to tell me that you don't feel the allure of a gently sculpted "4 ", a sexy "7 ", a playful come hither "9 "? Okay, maybe I'm stretching it with the descriptions, but the feel of writing or seeing a beautifully formed numeral really gets me. Getting kids to see that (without the sex part) gives them another reason to like math.

It almost sounds like a kind of synesthesia you're describing, judit, or anthropomorphism at least. And yes, I'm pretty psyched to have used those two ten-dollar words in one sentence; what numbers seem to do for you, letters arranged into words do for me.

Oooh

talk nerdy to me

Mike, I get off on the shapes of letters, too, but numerals (and punctuation) can be so...

I have many sets of rubber stamp alphabets and have done a lot of art with them. Oh my, just thinking of it.

> numerals (and punctuation) can be so...

Gosh, judit, you forget to finish your thought and went all Jamboney...

> Oh my, just thinking of it.

I'm getting a sense of incompletion from this line too. I can only imagine what rubber stamp numerals might do for you.
