Some big venues there for the
Some big venues there for the Alt-Country HOF'ers to fill. Lucinda is from Louisiana, Steve is from San Antonio, and Dwight is from Bakersfield. No Nashville bullshit. Call them the New Outlaws.

Lucinda is one of the greats.
Lucinda is one of the greats. First time I saw her, she opened up for Neil Young on the Greendale tour. It was the day Johnny Cash died, and said she was good friends with June Carter Cash. Changed her setlist a bit in tribute.
Seen her at Tarrytown Music Hall a few times, think I'll pass on The Beacon. Oh yeah, Steve Earle is no slouch either. Never seen Dwight.

I was able to grab a 2/3 face
I was able to grab a 2/3 face priced ticket in the 11th row orch at the Beacon day of show from Stubhub and hustled myself into The Beacon Theater to join some friends who needed ride to the show. .
I was a "real" country show from start to finish. I have often told others that if you want to see bands that every musician is excellent and the bands are tight, go see a country show. King Leg opened up the night and while I wasn't a huge fan of their songs, they played their asses off.
Next up was Steve Earle. I had recently seen Steve and The Dukes on their Copperhead Road anniversary tour. This is probably the best Dukes lineup there has been, now including former Cardinals drummer, Brad Pemberton. Earle's set was a bit more varied without the having to play the CR album in full. One thing that I did enjoy was his Fixin' To Die/Hey Joe set ender. Heavy...
Lucinda Williams filled the 3rd slot that evening and while she can be hit and miss sometimes, she always seems to stip up big in NYC. I would list the highlights of her setlist but they were all highlights. If I had to pick the best of the best, it woudl be a song that I will never tire of, Pineola. I forget which song she had Steve Earle come on stage to join her for, but it rocked.
I was not even slightly familiar with Dwight Yoakam's songbook so I was wondering what he would be like. Total Bakersfield sound, even did a couple of Merle Haggard covers because he had Merle on his mind on the bus overnight. Solid country performer that knows how to work a crowed. His band was WOW. You could tell that it was one of those bands that could learn a new song an hour before show time and have it sound like they have been playing it for years.
I don't know if I would say it was the best show I've seen this year but it resides in the Top 5, so not too bad for a show that I ended up going to at the last second. It also was a show that I got to just sit back and enjoy because I wasn't working. Those are rare these days. The staff was pretty strict about cell phone photos but I was able to snap one during Lucinda's set that I really like.
If you get a chance to catch this tour, even if you aren't a real country fan, do it. You won't be disappointed.

Nice pic and review Tony .
Nice pic and review Tony .
Dwight is tight and the little multi-instrumentalist is a wizard.
Am interested in this as well as a show this week, 3 bands; Chris Stapleton, Marty Stuart and Brent Cobb ..
Both shows are spendy... thinking of waiting last min for a stub hubber....

Nice review Mr. Saddler, thanks for the effort.
I passed on this, I'm not a big Steve Earle fan. I heard it was good.
I also passed on the Stapleton show with Marty opening, and I regret that more.
