LSD might relieve acute pain

Well, that explains why we're all a bunch of troopers, even thru the arthritis years, lol....

<<LSD microdose trial for acute pain relief reports “remarkable” results

<<Perhaps the most intriguing finding in the study is the observation that the analgesic effect seen in the 20-µg LSD group is comparable to what prior studies have seen with in the same cold water pain test for opioids such as oxycodone and morphine.

You might not believe this, little fella
But it'll cure your asthma too

should dose the shoulder

In the spirit domain, there is no pain.

I sure cures the quarantine blues

maybe i will have to try this with a microdose like they used in the study, but my experience has been exactly the opposite. my chronic pain is worse and ive had some actue pain while tripping that seemed more intense than it would have otherwise been while on psychedelics.

the article contains a brief description of the methods used to collect data -

During each experimental session, the subjects completed a Cold Pressor Test (CBT) at two time points following dosing: 90 minutes after and five hours after. The test basically involves plunging one’s hand into a tank of water at 3 °C (37.4 °F). Pain tolerance is measured by combining the amount of time one can hold their hand in the cold water, with a series of subjective ratings regarding painfulness.

now, ive never experienced pain relief on L outside of high dose dissociative type of experiences, but one thing i have experienced many, many times on L and other psychedelics is an increased tolerance for cold. im sure many of us have had the experience of going to a show in the fall or winter, its cold outside the venue before the show begins, you drop L inside the show, and when you come out you are comfortable in a tshirt or just a light jacket. IME sometimes it can fluctuate, and ill be comfortable in a tshirt one minute and need a heavy coat the next, but generally i handle the cold much better when im tripping balls. there are many stories of people on high doses of psychedelics in the snow being at risk of frostbite or getting frostbite.

the graphs shown in the study itself look like the 20ug LSD group is only marginally better than the other doses or placebo, and the study states that all participants had prior experience with psychedelics, so they all should have known what to expect and thus would have been predisposed to this spacey pseudo-placebo stone that tends to feel like the "come up" and does not feel like what inexperienced folks might think psychedelics would feel like.

IME if you are expecting to trip, and have a small amount of a psychedelic in your system that isnt enough for a trip, you experience a half real/half placebo "stone" for a few hours. ive experienced this when taking psychedelics bought off the street that were so weak it could be considered a scam, and on one occasion during a failed san pedro trip...tried to boil the pedro tea down to a tar to avoid the revolting taste of the tea...swallowed a bunch of these little tar balls like pills, and they digested so slowly that i just had a spacey stone going for like a day and a half...extra slow release mescaline. i wonder if its possible the combo of a sub-psychedelic amount of L combined with the potential for placebo that comes with knowing you took a psychedelic could produce that "stone", which could be responsible for some pain relief.

the article claims patients in the 20ug test group, which seems to be the most effective dose, experienced pain relief on par with morphine or oxycodone...ive got significant experience with all 3 drugs and just dont see how that is possible. with intense pain or pain involving muscle tension in any way, the sedative/narcotic effects of opioid significantly contribute to the pain relief. if ive had a particularly rough night at a show i will usually take some kind of opioid to deal with the pain once i get home, typically kratom, poppy pod tea, or methadone...seems absurd to me to suggest L itself has comparable analgesic effects when i consider my experiences in this realm.

i want to find  more benefits of using LSD as much any self respecting LSD lover would, but color me super duper skeptical. needs to be looked at more with a far wider variety of methods to induce pain, but either way, im very skeptical.

Definitely helps with the chronic pain of living.

Daylight, I think experience can be very personal in terms of reactions to pain on psychedelics and we can all really only address our experience. I agree completely about the cold-resistance, but I assume that's more of a psychological than biological thing - I may be wrong. Also, after dancing wildly for 2 or 3 hours, it makes sense you wouldn't be very cold walking out of a show.

I remember clearly when I was 20, dosing after not having dosed for almost a year (only organics, brah), one night I had a huge massive migraine and a buddy was trying to get me to dose. I was reluctant, but dosed anyways. My headache most definitely went away. Come to find out last year or so that micro-doses can alleviate cluster headaches due to increased blood flow, or something of the sort. So at least in that type of pain I'm willing to say there is concrete pain relief for cluster and migraine headaches.

What I do know, is that when I came down my head hurt like hell still AND I had caught a cold. I was living in the dorms then (Freshman year at 20) and some random coed came by later to cheer me up, so it all worked out. But it made me doubt the lasting effects of the pain relief.

I certainly can't attest to the relief of any serious body pains, but I know that when I'm high I can dance for hours and not really care about my shaky muscles. Again, probably psychological.

In short, any kind of pain relief that L offers, other than in specific cases related to oxygen and blood flow, is probably psychosomatic in nature, IMO:
