DJ Bassnectar Accused of Sex Trafficking, Child Pornography in Lawsuit

Two women have accused electronic DJ Bassnectar of sex trafficking, claiming in a new lawsuit that he had sexual relationships with them as minors and solicited explicit photos of them at the time. The complaint, obtained by Vulture, was filed in Tennessee on behalf of two women, Rachel Ramsbottom and Alexis Bowling, alleging the producer used “his power and influence to groom and ultimately sexually victimize underage girls.”

In an interview with Relix in 2014, Lorin Ashton said “I don’t think Bassnectar would be the touring entity it is without the jamband scene—specifically without Michael Kang and Madison House and also STS9 and the Disco Biscuits and on and on. Fully giving that respect where it’s due, my ears don’t love [that music] but I feel terrible saying that because I love the people. What I like about it is the scene, the community, the fanaticism and the intelligence of the listeners. That kind of supportive underground didn’t feel any different than my supportive underground, which was the death metal and punk rock underground.”

How long before other musicians and roadies have to revisit their sordid past?

Dead roadies used to scout the crowd with binoculars for aftershow party attendees. One shit-stain guy Glenn used to scour the parking lots holding some Acid Test book and a bunch of laminates to convince (underage) girls that he was friends with the band (supposedly he was mentioned in the book or something). Anyone remember that scumbag? He absconding with a young friend of a friend at an Oakland show and she was really messed up the next day and a while afterward after she "partied with the band."  We used to fuck with him because he was such an obvious predator.

I suppose running for office as republicans should be considered, or perhaps getting a dolphin....

I did stage security for him 8-10 years ago at a festival. He gave his own special passes to a select few innies and didn't tell any of our staff, so we were finding people with passes we didn't recognize and then getting shit for questioning them.

My job was to stand on the stage (with 3 other security) basically in front of him to keep folks off. It was strange to stand in front of thousands of people, watching them watch Bassnectar twirl knobs and whatever, and me thinking: "What the hell are they looking at?".

> getting a dolphin

I really hope this phrase enters the zone vernacular.

My one interaction with John Barlow was in the Fox Oakland parking lot as I was driving in to see Melvin Seal's JGB playing at a club a block away, and Barlow was walking out, going into the Fox to see Bassnectar.

I've seen them both, and while I like Melvin's band I'm not a huge fan, but I still thought I was getting the better of the two.
