Sarah Palin loses special election to Democrat

close election does she play the Trump card?

big chip too win for dems imo

No one ordered the Word Salad?

I flew to Las Vegas a few years ago. The stewardess who was wearing a mask at the height of covid looked exactly like Sarah Palin. Hair, glasses were just like her.. We became friendly and I told her who she looked like. When I got to Vegas and she was at the exit of the plane saying bye to passengers she pulled down her mask for me and I swear it was her. She was smiling and it was her or a perfect lookalike. I should have asked her to take her pic.

3 Trump lawyers now will either be witnesses of `the crime or co-conspirators because they are idiots, and possibly could be disbarred.

only the best people, why is it that all of the best people that Trump hired never lasted very long? I guess a well run machine is fueled by turnover

^No way was it her, doc. She'd be the 'Karen' at the gate or way back at the TSA security checkpoint arguing over masks, Fauci, Obama, whatever. On top of that, she whould never work just a regular job that doesn't entail scamming taxpayers.

Mr. know it all! LOL

I thought she was doing porn, or was that a look a like?

Good.

This Alaska special election was one of the first in the state to use "ranked choice" voting, which if adopted more widely, could really upend the political process in America in a good way (Maine has had ranked choice voting for several years).   Ranked choice voting allows people to rank their favorite candidates in order of preference.  if their first choice doesn't make the top two, then their second choice automatically kicks in.   For example, I could rank the Green Party candidate as my first choice and then the Democrat candidate as my second choice without worrying about "wasting" my vote on the Greens.  Allowing people to vote their conscious for third party candidates without having to choose between the lesser of two evils will help break the tired two-party system that has dominated American politics for the past two centuries.

Sorry but the only thing that will move us away from a two party system is getting rid of winner take all elections and moving to a parliamentary proportional representation system. All that requires is completely rewriting The Constitution. The two party system is a feature not a bug of our entire political system. Ranked Choice Voting, third paries, and mother fucking Andrew Yang won't change that.

I can't say I'm a huge fan of ranked choice simply because so many people in the US don't vote. I have nothing to back this up but I think that a lot of people are just confused and intimidated by voting and ranked choice makes voting even more confusing. Most people haven't mastered game theory including me.

Fun fact is that the Alaskan ranked choice voting was put in place by the Republicans to punish Merkowski for voting to impeach Trump. They thought it would be the best way to make sure she isn't re elected.

1 man, 2 votes?

Ken, republicans have a hard enough time counting one vote at a time

but this way of voting is far superior to what we do now, every vote is now involved in the game, even my Alfred E Newman vote will actually effect the election, if I include legitimate secondary choices

If voters change City of Portland's government in November City  Council will be elected by ranked choice voting.

> I thought she was doing porn, or was that a look a like?

I heard Palin did a few hot girl-girl scenes.

Not to mention the fact that the long-standing Murkowski/Palin family feud in Alaska is like a Hatfield/McCoy episode (yes, I know Murkowski is in the Senate), but if this toolbag hates it there must be something at least halfway decent about it.

Mike Wrote >>I heard Palin did a few hot girl-girl scenes.<<

Lisa Ann played her in 'Who's Nailin' Paylin'?' in some of her best work yet.

Hahaha.

Ranked choice voting sounds like virtue signaling on steroids.

Is there any trend that Portlanders won't crawl up the leg and try to hump?

I'm a loser
I'm a loser
And I'm not what I appear to be

Of all the love I have won, and have lost
There is one love I should never have crossed
She was a girl in a million my friend
I should have known she would win in the end

I'm a loser
And I lost someone who's near to me
I'm a loser
And I'm not what I appear to be

Although I laugh and I act like a clown
Beneath this mask I am wearing a frown
My tears are falling like rain from the sky
Is it for her or myself that I cry?

I'm a loser
And I lost someone who's near to me
I'm a loser
And I'm not what I appear to be

What have I done to deserve such a fate?
I realize I have left it too late
And so it's true pride comes before a fall
I'm telling you so that you won't lose all

I'm a loser
And I lost someone who's near to me
I'm a loser
And I'm not what I appear to be

Seems a lot simpler to just open the primaries...

^GOP typically resists this change at all costs, with a never-ending line-up of excuses

oooh, Portland smack.

we're used to it, but y'all have hella fun when you're here and doing your tax-free shopping. ;)

It's easy for boomers to scream how much they hate ranked choice voting

funny

really

but note never a single peep about candidates who lose the popular vote but still win elections

Well, technically, I'm Gen-X, so I wouldn't know about that.  You sure do like to throw that Boomer word around though Triggerfinger.

I'm not a fan of the Electoral College system myself.  It's outdated and gives the less  populous states unfair  influence in national politics.

I just don't thiink that Ranked Choice Voting is the answer.  It awards those who don't have the courage of their convictions, which just seems too damned wishy-washy, and a little, well,, rank.

Maybe lighten up a little on "Boomers" BSS.  Not all boomers are old white rightwing republicans.    What I hate, is the way it works now. Or more to the point, doesn't work.

> Not all boomers are old white rightwing republicans. <

well mark, "boomer" really represents more of a social caricature nowadays than an identity, at least to a lot of younger folks

No longer constrained by simple mathematical computations of months and days, as it may have been defined by in previous generations

I understand some here might still be sensitive to this word so sure I can probably lighten up on that.

speaking here as the zone's elder millennial, or Xennial

Okay, Xennial?

So, a meaningless, off-mark "label" cooked up by the 'everyone-gets-an-award' ultra-coddled crowd? Sweet.

back to the point at hand

>>It awards those who don't have the courage of their convictions, which just seems too damned wishy-washy, and a little, well,, rank.<<

can you explain what that means? I genuinely don't understand

ranked choice

makes equal room for third party candidates

eliminates "lesser of two evils" dilemma

also eliminates vote splitting / spoiler candidates

might decrease negative campaigning, mudslinging

doesn't require multiple election$

directly addresses voter disenfranchisement; the idea of "throwing your vote away"

I'm sure I could think of more

But I really can't without first asking myself; Now, who wouldn't want those things?

and why wouldn't they want them?

and then how exactly do they benefit from the lack of these things, currently?

I'm all for ranked voting (unless I'm missing something about it). I often have had more than one candidate who appeals to me but have had to choose just one, usually the lesser of evils but who will win over the wretched opposition. I'm up for it.

signed, an old person born at the end of the 1940's.

Remember that those born between the years of 1958-1962 are the Space Age Kids, we are a very select few that will be called to the alien ships when they return for us superior beings

I voted Democrat last election, and not Progressive like I wanted to, bc i wanted the shitgibbon to lose.

If ranked voting would allow me to have a one-two punch, hell yeah!

whew

just found and returned my overdue library books

avoided a subpoena/no-knock warrant...

"Remember that those born between the years of 1958-1962 are the Space Age Kids, we are a very select few that will be called to the alien ships when they return for us superior beings"

Well I feel so much better now.

You choose your horse, and that's your ride.  What part of 1 man, 1 vote is so hard to grasp?

women vote too now

Lol

I mean damn,

https://www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/how-ranked-choice-voting-saved-th...

even the Virginia republicans were smart enough to figure it out.

Tread lightly. VA GOP should not be looked to for setting any favorable standards.
