Los Lobos w/ Steve Earle -Paramount, Huntington, NY 9/14

Forums:

I have a nice seat to see Steve Earle & The Dukes, with Los Lobos at the Paramount Theater in Huntington, NY this Thursday 9/14

Not sure who is opening for, or if the show starts at 7 or 8.

I haven't seen Los Lobos since 7/9/89 opening for the Grateful Dead at Giants Std. Missed many Los Lobos shows over the last 28 years. Some free ones even. Love their music. Can't wait!

Steve Earle's repertoire is smaller/more focused & should fit well with Los Lobos.

Outlaw Country Baby. Long Island style.

Los Lobos is playing this show & 2 more in NE & that's it for the year as of now

If anyone else here is going stop by say hello. I'm in the front left floor.

You can go to that link & request songs for Los Lobos to play at the concert you are going to.

I requested: "Rikki Don't Lose That Number" from Steely Dan, "Debris" from The Faces, and an easy one for them "Kiko And The Lavender Moon".

Be funny if they busted out Rikki.

I guess, if they played a Steely Dan song, it would be a Walter Becker penned one. Oh well.

This Los Lobos / Steve Earle & the Dukes show at the Paramount in Huntington (accentuate the "T's like Cesar does) was off the charts good. So good, I really could not put a $ value on the show.

The Los Lobos set may be the best set of music I saw this year. Get this, Steve Earle & the Dukes killed it as the closer. May have been better. (More on that set later)

I had the best seat in the house and was sitting in front of Cesar Rojas, and next to his fun loving wife "Sandra", who is a huge fan of the music.

Cesar Rosas is got to be my favorite guitar player & sitting in front of him was classic stuff. He's all business and lays it down, dirty & deep. It's his band & he's the band leader.

My time has come & I needed a Los Lobos show in big way!

Los Lobos brought out the Mastersons (guitar & fiddle players from the Dukes) and the Los Lobos family went absolutely nuts with joy. They are amazing.

I got my Kiko.

Lobos played a killer version of Traffic's "Light Up or Leave Me Alone"

Then brought Jeff Mattson from long Island's Zen Tricksters for West L.A. Fade Away

Awesome!

{Between set Steve Earls roadie gave me Cesar's set list from tyhe floor, see way below)

Nice pics.  Did Steve bring them out during his show or for the encore?

Thanks man. No, Steve didn't bring Los Lobos out.  The Dukes set was over  2 hours long and ended at 12:20pm, with a 10pm curfew.

Still digesting the Steve Earle set. It was a lot of information and he was so kind to us.

I didn't know he know lives here in NY. Studied up as best I could before the show.  I have his first 2 albums & purchased So You Want to Be an Outlaw at the show.

He covered his entire repertoire, and it sounded amazing.

Steve did a chilling, explosive rendition of Hey Joe (starred right at me) as he knew I was feeling it. Then he started rapping and said "and give me gun, to stop this fool from building fucking wall"

The show was very political, anit-racial, shows filled with a lot of love. Go figure. Steve Earle was one of the best shows I ever saw. He's up for more and lives near by.

(I think I have couple of nice photgraphs to share)

Sorry for the spelling errors. I'm post-toasty.

Nice.  Lobos is always a good time.

My favorite Cesar memory is me yelling out "Shoot Out The Lights!" between songs one time.  Cesarr called across stage to David, "Hey David, this kid wants to hear Shoot Out The Lights."

David shook his head no, and I yelled "It's my birthday" (it was not my birthday).  And Cesar called across the stage "It's his birthday" and David said allright.

David botched some lyrics but musically they crushed it.

I can so picture that. David is such an easy going guy.  Great story.

That's cool Timmy.  I had a cool David moment also.  At WHBPAC a few years ago Los Lobos was playing on borrowed instruments because their gear got left behind coming from some Disney World shows.  I called out a request for them to play 'The Giving Tree'.  Cesar right away said we can't do that one,  we don't have the right instruments.  David said " Fuck that!  I wrote the song, I can play it however I want!" .  So he led right into 'The Giving Tree'.  It was cool!

Nothing like folks shouting out at the Westhamtpon Beach Performing Arts Center.

But that's great story flip. Cesar is very cool to his fans, I see. Gotta love that guy.

They also played Cumbia Raza!

Ok, here' s the best of the Steve Earle & the Dukes photographs from this past Friday night - 9/15

The green lit shot with the accordion is the Dukes bringing down the house on Coper Head Road.

The only portrait shot I posted of Steve, second from the bottom, with the Fender Telecaster is him getting very serious during Hey Joe

"Copper Head Road" is what I meant to write up there.

Playing the most recent Los Lobos record, "Gates of Gold' (2015) and it's really good.

If you are looking to add excellent music to your collection, you won't be disappointed in owning this album.

fyi

Los Lobos just added the City Winery to their 2017 touring itinerary. 12/17, 12/18, & 12/19

Tickets went on sale today

They're doing Dec 29-30 here at the new City Winery. Besides David Crosby (whose ticket prices are prohitively high), they're the only interesting artist on the calendar so far.

We're doing the 30th. Would be awesome if they did NYE, but we're psyched to see them. Been awhile.

Tickets were really, really reasonable. They are a people's band.

I'm still kicking myself for missing this gig. Stellar bill and one of my favorite venues to work and see a show at. If I could write songs like somebody, it would probably be Steve Earle.

I could totally understand that.

That tool Bluelight took a photo of the elusive Steve Berlin at this show.

Jeff from DSO & Zen tricksters is on stage too.
