The Lincoln Project

In normal times, I would have dismiss George Conway as a schmuck. These days aren't normal times though.

Good one.

They have been great. Republicans know how to take people down

I'm really digging the Lincoln Project videos.

I grew up in a hard right household and had to work hard to rid myself of a lot of the toxic conservative tropes I was spoonfed for much of my youth and teenage years.

These days, I consider myself moderately liberal.  I'm passionate about an array of social causes and have been outspoken on a number of "liberal" causes most of my adult life.  I really can't stand the cancel culture from the Left and think the statue thing is going a bit far now... it's giving cannon fodder for Fox News and Trumpism.  Confederate monuments?  Sure- Fuck em.  Some of these others that are being torn down though make me scratch my head and, again, look to Trump to run with the ammo.

Anyway, I listen to a moderately conservative podcast called "The Bulwark" hosted by Charlie Sykes.  He's involved with the Lincoln Project.  Also digging Tom Nichols these days.  (Rhode Island represent!)  If anyone is interested in hearing perspective from the Never Trump ex-GOP camp, I definitely recommend this.  it's civil, intelligent and promotes healthy discourse and debate.

I pride myself on consuming media from as many angles as I can find palatable.

Before I get any shit from some of the more Left folks here on VLZ, I'll share some of the other political podcasts in my heavy rotation:

- Useful Idiots  (liberal)

- Intercepted  (very liberal)

- The UnderCulture   (liberal)

- The Daily   (moderate)   *Not specifically political, but isn't everything today?*

- The Journal     (moderate/ probably a little right-leaning)  *Not specifically political, but isn't everything today?*

Like I said, I try to get the same stories from different perspectives.  As a New Years resolution in 2018, I gave up frequenting Drudge Report which was I just find so incredibly toxic.  Yuck.  I went there every day from 2004-2018.  I found myself going to these sites specifically to be outraged. It's like junk food.  I couldn't understand why I kept going back... glad to have turned the page for good on Drudge, and Yahoo for that matter. Good riddance.

..just trying to wade through the shit these days.  Open to recommendations from the galley.

The G.W. Bush Project would be a more appropriate moniker...or perhaps The Last Gasp of the Neoconservative Warmongers Project.

     Strange bedfellows.

^What a nice, articulate response.

I’ve got to admit, Republicans have always done a good job eating their young.

News so good it belongs in 2 threads, at least.

Hey look a SHIT DIP post

Okay, so serious question here:

will trump “quit” prior to the election, saving himself the embarrassment of defeat at the box?

or

will he stay in, knowing he’ll lose, and fight uphill, from the outside, in the courts and the media afterwards?

He’s not a “quitter” (at least in the traditional sense.) Obviously he wouldn’t see it as “quitting”, but whatever...

And he definitely doesn’t want to be labeled a loser...

so in the zone’s collective trump brains, in posterity; would Donald consider it worse to be forever labeled a loser or a quitter?

He could quit, but not without "declaring victory" first.

(Barr)ing any tomfoolery, which is still a huge question, he should lose bigly.  When that happens, he will hold onto power, burning as much as possible in his wake from Nov 4th-Jan 19 then resign a day or two before Inauguration, leaving Pence to deal with the handover of power, "losing" moment, and will make him give Trump a carte blanche pardon.

Luckily, the states can still go after him and the NYAG seems to have the appetite for just that.

Thoms gonna say this is crazy talk, but hes either in denial or hasnt learned a thing in the last four years.

Probably both.

Speaking of strange bedfellows

and going past the limit of inappropriate

dipshit. would  you like to give trump a BJ?

what does it feel like as you fantasize?

As you've never answered one other question before,  perhaps,  you would go out on a " limb" and answer this one...

Trump could quit losing?

in theory....

How many folks that voted for him last time have changed their minds?   I don't know any personally. Counting him out now is a big mistake. Besides they are gerrymandering and closing poles everywhere they are worried about the democratic voters. They will do everything in their power to keep him in office.

It's "polls"...and no, they're not...if there's shenanigans going on it's with the "mail-in" ballots, I'm sure you already knew that.

...by the way, I don't even know why, but almost on a subconscious level I have often thought a lot of your posts, for whatever that's worth, kind of a Pavlovian response to seeing your username.  All the best!  :)

Do you know Mark from Solar Circus?

<<< it's with the "mail-in" ballots, I'm sure you already knew that.

Yeah, we know all about Pence voting absentee in Indiana using the governors mansion as his address, even though he hasnt lived there in 4 years, which is a felony.

We know about Kayleigh using her parents address to vote by mail in Florida.

We know about Trump using Mar A Lago to do the same even though he's not allowed to use that as a residence per an agreement he signed with the city. Its either a club or a residence, but cant be both.  He doesnt believe the rules apply to him though, does he?  Lawless commander in chief.

We know all about Republicans gaming the ballot by mail system across the board.

Thanks for pointing that out!!

     ...easily done

Abraham Lincoln was a white supremicist.

To elaborate...I'm trusting the reader to be up on the subject, but you do realize this is a manifestation of the now "sidelined" neoconservative powers that be?  A small, small, small, very small amount of research will bring about a more clear understanding of the neoconservative movement and Donald J. Trump being the greatest threat to their survival.

When you're older you'll get it.

I knew poles was wrong but had a mental block.

And, yes they are. See Kentucky as just one example.

I'll look into it, much respect

<<Abraham Lincoln was a white supremicist.

You truly are an insufferable dick stain.

"research" Bless your heart.

I'll give it the old college try...

Do you realize there's a complete takeover [and subsequent transformation] of the Republican Party from the G.W. Bush Crowd?

For every action, there's a similar...well you know the thing.

https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/did-lincoln-racism-equality-oppose/

Once again, JR is ill informed. Lincoln had a long speech where he talked about how he believed the white race to be the "supreme race". Your welcome for teaching you something today. Your hero's and idles taught to you in grade school are false.

So the truth once more, Abraham Lincoln was a white supremcist. 100% fact.

     It's "You're".

What are your thoughts on the Ron Paul phenomena?

I feel like he was, and continues to be the political inspiration of my time on Earth.

There was a time when I asked myself "would you take a bullet for Ron Paul?"  And I always thought of it as taking a bullet for the republic, and the the answer was always yes.

I should probably write him a letter and tell him that.

^Iphones make grammar hard.

     Timpane...you're a good soul.

I think you're wrong about Lincoln.

Are you eating dead animals?  I wouldn't know, but I've heard it said that psychedelic technology and eating dead animals posed a rugged trail.

I'm not wrong about Lincoln. His speech while debating Stephen Douglas in 1858 is highly documented. You or anyone else can do the research. Your whole life people have been puting Lincoln up on this pedastool when he's just another American White male supr micist.

I try to judge people in the context of their respective times.

I see your point, Siobud. I think that's important to remember that we are all human beings and we make mistakes. The times in which we are doing positive things in life are when we are at our best and we all have our failures. It's also important to tell the truth, IMO. We are told so many lies about individuals for the purpose of building mass iconization. In the end, they are just humans. I think it's a large issue for humanity that we need a false image of leaders and old legends to make us feel comfortable about our own ideologies and the people to whom we look up to. We also enjoy the lies for our own entertainment. We should do our best to tell the truth as dark or great as it could be. There could be something from both the positive and negative that we could learn from and we could miss out on that education.

Decent point timpy

we are all just humans

What is your opinion of Jerry Garcia as a human?

I heard an interview on NPR the other day of one of the directors of the Lincoln Project.  He was asked whether he was concerned about whether some of the ads were too personal, negative, and over the top and the guy explained that with some of the ads, they have a target audience of one - Donald Trump.   He went on to explain that the point of some of the ads is to get under Trump's skin and throw him off his game.

^Yes, exactly.  I heard the interview as well.

Bump for a Lincoln Project fundraising email I got today that was written by Steve Schmidt. I abhor Schmidt's politics for the most part, but I love the guy's rhetoric.

We, the people, will reject Donald Trump’s presidency on November 3rd.

There will be no Trump coup in this country.

The American experiment, which has endured since 1776—through civil war, world wars, and depressions—will not yield to a dime-store Mussolini who is faithless to his duty and is the worst president in American history.

He will be repudiated and humiliated by history’s judgment. It is our job to make that happen.

Donald Trump is threatening the peaceful transition of power because he is losing and he is weak. Let us finish him off.

When you hear Donald Trump threaten our democracy and stoke racial animus, do not be afraid.

When you hear him say he will not accept the results of this election, do not tremble.

When you hear him pit us against each other, do not waiver and do not flinch.

He is a threat to our liberty and to our democratic institutions, and we will do what Americans have always done: we will defeat the threat.

Remember: we are Americans. E Pluribus Unum — out of many, one. We are a good people and together we will end this disgrace.

— Steve

I don't agree that we are a good people. Too many Karen's out there.
